After winning WCG USA 1st place, Tyler was chosen for the e-STRO team in Korea.
Tyler (NonY) has proven himself by winning the SCForAll Spirit Tournament as well as winning the 2008 WCG USA National qualifier.
After the WCG Grand Final event when he came to Korea, Tyler had to prove himself to the team by playing against the e-STRO B team. After 30 games with the e-STRO B team players, NonY had shown his ability and skills to the e-STRO coaching staff, and they were very impressed.
Tyler is from Florida, born in 1986. He majored in Philosophy at Duke University so there was no doubt about his cleverness. His game at SCForAll against JulyZerg (click here for the VOD) in a showcase match became a really hot issue with his firm and macro style of play.
At the interview he said `I’m really happy to join e-STRO, I do not really have any problems that I worried about before I came here. Everyone has been so kind to me. My first goal is to play a Pro League match in Korea`.
After watching Tyler’s (Nony) games for 2 weeks, e-STRO head coach Kim Hyun Jin aka kOs, made a statement saying `NonY is really skilled and has a good playing style for foreigner, but he stills has many things to fix, there are many bad habits that I see. I personally think he should work on new skills and learn it as quick as he can in order to play in Korea`.
After bringing Greg (Idra) from the foreign scene, we are looking forward to the new foreign players who will eventually end up here in Korea on a pro team.

Well it is one of the Ivy Leagues, though not one of the big three, it should still be pretty popular. It's a dream/obsession for many Asian foreigners to go abroad and study in American universities especially those from Korea/Japan/China.

Mind you, as far as Canadian universities go, we have a few well known ones (UBC, SFU, UVic, McGill, UofT, Waterloo, etc.) and then community/provincial colleges. I suppose similar to American post-secondary education, but there are fewer Canadian institutions in general, being that we only have 30,000,000 people.

fwiw, ivy league is an athletic conference consisting of brown, columbia, cornell, dartmouth, harvard, princeton, upenn and yale
duke is a great school thanks to having a much larger financial endowment than most schools and can balance their quality of education across departments, they accept at a much higher rate than most schools in its ranking class
however, IMO, durham is like the asshole of america

Philosophy here falls under the either/or category - you can choose to study it in depth academically and write a thesis, but some people definitely do it to take the easy classes and get a painless BA. I dunno which path Nony took, but he's an athlete (both e- and real), and either way he's obviously worked very hard.
At any rate, the who system at Duke is based on the liberal arts mantra that you go to college to learn how to think rather than learn a particular field in depth (unless you're an engineer or pre-med). Also for the record, we have a pretty large international Korean population here, but the majority of them keep to themselves and plan on returning to Korea after graduation. It's pretty interesting how American education became integrated as an accelerated component of the Korean system more so than a means of finding international opportunities.

In terms of the real world after you graduate undergrad, Cal is a top tier school. There's a reason why among the top schools, we have the highest dropout rate--Cal is fucking hard. If you don't got the chops to be here either by working hard or by being smart, the system drops you. The other schools (namely private ones) give a lot more leeway in working to keep students because the undergrad students pay 30k/year. No such system here at Cal, and not much grade inflation compared to private universities either. Companies and grad schools know this, so when you're applying, they take your GPA with a grain of salt.

Basically if your school has 40% or higher acceptance rate it's bad. My school is bad but it somehow always gets toward the bottom of top 100 schools. (SBU).

Uhhh... What's bad? U of Mich has ~50% acceptance but is (IMO) a relatively "good" school. Then there are schools like Urbana Champaign and Case Western who have like 70% acceptance rates but are still decent schools.
