So after reading a suggestion in the TLPD feedback thread (from geno, thanks guy), I've been thinking about making a page which would gather all the major "misc stats" data in one place. Number of games total, number of games per matchup, matchup all-time record, player with most individual wins, number of starleague wins per race, etc etc. Doing so however, I realized there was just way too many potentially interesting statistics to put in one single page.
That's when I had the idea of a forum thread. You guys ask for a stat, and I'll query the database and fetch it ASAP (mostly during weekends). I'll gather all of the stat requests/answers in the first post. For evolving stats (like matchup records and stuff), I'll add a date so you can know when the numbers have last been updated. Note that I can't necessarily get just anything from the database, especially stuff TLPD doesn't handle yet, like team stats.
TLPD will eventually contain a page with the most relevant statistics. I'd be very interested to know which ones you guys consider the most interesting to have at hand all the time. Right now I'm still unsure (except for a few).
This thread will always be open for specific requests, though!
I'll start off with a bunch of common statistics:
Last updated: Sunday Nov. 23
- Number of games:
- 10440 games in total (including 3543 VODs)
- 2867 TvZs (including 817 VODs)
- 1837 ZvPs (including 580 VODs)
- 2192 PvTs (including 864 VODs)
- 1370 TvTs (including 514 VODs)
- 1163 ZvZs (including 221 VODs)
- 674 PvPs (including 298 VODs)
- Matchup all-time records:
- TvZ: 1544-1323 (53.85%)
- ZvP: 982-855 (53.46%)
- PvT: 1120-1072 (51.09%)
- League statistics:
- Terran: 49 golds, including 11 OSLs and 9 MSLs/KPGA Tours
- Zerg: 35 golds, including 6 OSLs and 6 MSLs/KPGA Tours
- Protoss: 18 golds, including 8 OSLs and 4 MSLs/KPGA Tours
+ Show Spoiler [Longest win/loss streaks] +
+ Show Spoiler [Bisu's effect in PvZ] + Pre-Bisu-vs-Savior ZvP: 682-547 (55.49%) Post-Bisu-vs-Savior ZvP: 300-308 (49.34%)
Revolution much?

Longest win streak (overall) Longest loss streak (overall) Longest streaks according to matchups.
top5 on all of those.

You are too awesome PoP. I'll have to come up with some more interesting stats now with this thread version
|
Awesome!! Only request I can really think of would be statistics confined to particular years or seasons etc. example: terran/zerg/protoss win rates for a particular league or timeframe.

I'm confused by where all the extra medals are going from if not starleagues. Even with things like the GSI and GSL that doesn't account for it all. Are you counting WCG, Blizzcon, WWI etc too?

No, only korean professional tournaments, including WCG qualifications, special events like Shinhan Masters, ODTs (previous ones had winners), etc. But it might not make too much sense? Also I should probably exclude special events.

Probably special tourneys and invitationals too (KeSPA sanctioned stuff).
edit: That's pretty interesting though that Zerg has managed to get nearly twice as many golds as Protoss total, but has the exact same number of starleague golds.

Not all that related, but I would really like to see 2v2 stats in player profiles.

# Matchup all-time records:
* TvZ: 1557-1348 (53.6%)
* ZvP: 1019-890 (53.38%)
* PvT: 1128-1082 (51.04%)
This is really a credit to the awesome racial balance of professional SC. I can't believe it's so close!

Actually I just updated them because there was a glitch. Stats are fixed now (not that much different though).

Funny that the small statistical advantages all line up with the classic t > z > p > t matchup theory too. But yeah, not by much, which is not only a credit to the game balance but also the mappers.

Biggest rivalry? i.e Players with the most games head to head against each other? And maybe records Team vs Team like all games that SKT players have played against KTF players (Proleague / All Leagues).
|
What I'd really like to see would be a feature/API where we can enter an arbitrary SQL select query ourselves (preferably by a query string added to the url to make it more programmatically accessible), and see the results. Such a thing is obviously possible but there may be reasons why it's not safe/practical.
edit: We'd also have to know the database schema.

Edit: I moved it to the appropriate thread

Wow didn't realize Best had a 16-0 win streak in PvP.
Also massive T_T on the Boxer loss streak.

Most played map Most balanced map (with over X games, I'm not sure how many) Most unbalanced (imbalanced? same as above, should probably have some kind of significant sample size). Maybe the same thing but by matchup? PvZ stats pre 2006 and PvZ stats post 2006 would be interesting (I think professional tosses really stepped up their PvZ around that time).
Sweet thread btw :D

How about the finding the overall record of each individual team? Something like adding up each player's record to get the team's overall record. It's not exactly team stats/proleague W-L, just the cumulative record of each member of a team.
(hopefully this isn't already in the TLPD )

Does kpga's not counted as msls? Terran should have more then 5 msl win (3 oov,3 nada, boxer, forgg, mind afair)

Either games with at least 1 player going random, or 2v2s (should probably split the count in two btw, now that I think about it).

Thing is we need to be aware of all the players' team changes for these stats to be accurate. Some are still missing unfortunately. (There was a thread about it a while ago.)

Raw SQL access seems a bit rough, but if there was *some* API to query it that would be pretty useful.

That was the turning point of Zerg in progaming.

It would also be nice to list the biggest Bonjwa/dominating periods.
For example:
Oov: 77-20 (79%) 4/5/2003 - 7/1/2004
sAviOr: 53-17 (76%) 4/13/2006 - 2/9/2007

And by record I don't individual game W/L, I mean who has the best ratio of winning Bo5 series/Bo3 series altogether.

You might want to add a minimum amount of games to qualify. I mean By.Movie has 100% in 2 MUs.

Maybe you could add something like this:
Times qualified for MSL Times qualified for MSL Ro16 Times qualified for MSL Ro8 Times qualified for MSL Semifinals Times qualified for MSL Finals
and then the same thing with OSL

PoP: I thought Joyo played PvT instead of TvT [TvZ TvP PvT]? Like in the epic Paradoxx game with Boxer, he was P. Therefore he wouldn't be included in longest TvT loss streak.

Of course, Savior was an absolute terror so that probably didn't help the stats..

Nice Thread!
I always knew T>Z was the most imbalanced matchup.

how often does player with higher ELO beat player with lower ELO? would be a way to show how useful ELO is to evaluate player skill, but maybe this info is already contained/defined in elo score...?

It is - you can use the difference between ratings to compute the probability that either player will win. For example, a 200 point advantage indicates an approximately 75% chance of winning, while a 400 point advantage indicates about an approximately 90% chance of winning.
The formula can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating#Mathematical_details

wow zvp really got way more balanced after 2006 nice to know.

Much thanks, very interesting stuff!

Hey POP, just to let you know (in case it's not you changing it), the individual ranking for the proleague is down at TLPD...

Protoss is so dominant now that after terran, protoss has the most gold medals. Interesting stats.

this is so great, tlpd is getting better. what about "most games won under/over 5/40 minutes etc." maybe that requires too much work. anyways this kicks ass.

This is really a credit to the awesome racial balance of professional SC. I can't believe it's so close!
Well I'm sure map balancing play's an even more important role. Especially during proleague when team's had to decide what race to send out on a specific map. Of course every race has to play now do to the rule changes.

Would be cool to be able to list players by their birth date

And by record I don't individual game W/L, I mean who has the best ratio of winning Bo5 series/Bo3 series altogether.
Cannot answer this unfortunately, TLPD doesn't handle the concept of series right now.

id like to see tvp/ pvz / tvz win % per year ^^
see how it changed

The zerg with the biggest amount of played televised games.
YellOw (406).
No big surprise here. Game count might be slightly wrong as TLPD doesn't store all the special events.
The player with the best win/lose ratio peak. The terran with the best win/lose ratio peak. The protoss with the best win/lose ratio peak. The zerg with the best win/lose ratio peak.
The terran with the best win/lose ratio peak in TvZ, in TvT, in TvP. The protoss with the best win/lose ratio peak in PvT, PvZ, PvP. The zerg with the best win/lose ratio peak in ZvT, ZvZ, ZvP.
We'd need a minimum amount of games but imho this still would be a bit silly when we have ELO which is a lot more relevant. :p

Again win ratios don't mean much. We'd need a minimal amount of games. Yearly ELO could probably be done though, but it's a bit of a pain, so I'll do that later. :p

Can't answer any of this because TLPD doesn't handle team matches/records/etc.
Player history is actually handled though, but lots of team changes are missing. We need to work on that and then they'll be posted in the player profiles.

I saw GSI is included in the TLPD, is there any particular reason for this, because all other invitational tournaments like BWWI, BlizzCon, SuperFights and international cyber fests are not in.
|
This thread should be updated. Jangbi has equalled the PvT winning streak record.
|
And flash should be on the TvT streak too

GSI counted for Kespa, just thought id get that out there.
The Classic 1 did not, GSI did. Classic 2 did too I believe.

Boxer is at 14 OSLs not 15. He royal-roaded Hanbitsoft, then he qualified for every OSL until Gillette where July beat him in the decider. He also missed Ever05. After Shinhan1 he hasnt played in OSL.
|
Question about stats:
According to TLPD, Boxer has 253-206. But according to other sites, Boxer has played many mores games.
"Televised match record: 500 wins, 336 losses" (http://boxerforever.com/?p=career).
"total 435 wins - 284 lose" (http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft/news.php?id=2868).
"Lim had an impressive record with 500 wins and 336 losses in his professional career." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lim_Yo-Hwan).
The sites above are not as updated as TLPD, I think. But how come Boxer has less games now than before?

We only count games counted by the Korean eSports Association.
EDIT: According to the YGosu database which IMO is the best SC Progaming Database inside of Korea, Boxer's stats are; 577 Wins 403 Losses (58.9%)
This includes OSL/MSL Preliminaries etc.

what is boxers record while playing for ace?

Would it be possible to incorporate a view with matchup stats, similar to the Detailed ELO view? With total wins/losses and wins/losses against each race. Plus an option to specify a time window for the stats. That would make it easy to find out who had the best stats vs zerg during January for example, or who played the most games in the last three months. How to sort the stats? I'd maybe go with winpercentage² * numberofgames, but I'm sure you can think of a sensible measurement.

i wonder if there are any "bisu's effect"-like thing involved in TvZ or in the other MUs

Can we see how 2009 win ratios has gone so far? How many mirrors and such. GOM included and not included.
Perhaps like January to end of March and April to this day separated.

A lot of that is outdated though. Strategies evolve, times evolve.
I would love to see the TvZ, ZvP and PvT matchup stats from 2006 onwards.

i would like to see a "team history" for every player. Just short line in which teams that player was and to which teams he got transfered.
like:
MBC Hero -> SKT1 -> STX Soul
(but also include old names like P&C, IS, POS and stuff

This thread is too awesome, can't get enough of the stats. Poor JinNam, seems like he didn't know when to stop lol.
Like people are saying it would be really cool if you could find some stats on any major shifts in the other matchups and if it's possible to connect them to a certain player or build.
|
What about "worst whipping boys", what I mean is the players that have the most games against each other without one of them winning even once, like Stork 6-0 Yarnc or Jangbi 5-0 Stork (these aren't the worst, right?). Preferably top3 for each matchup if possible.

Bump.
A lot of time has passed, and a lot of games of Starcraft have been played since this thread was last updated. Bisu still hasn't won an OSL, sAviOr didn't destroy everyone in 2009, and two progaming teams don't exist anymore. Mech TvZ was reinvented, refined, nearly abandoned, picked up again, and refined some more. SoulKey brought queens to the forefront of ZvT. By.great hoped to revolutionize ZvZ with his hive tech play, and ultimately failed.
Oh, and a game called Starcraft 2 was released. I hear it's pretty popular.
So how about an update?

I have another request, in addition to the request for an update. TvZ win/loss stats before and after Fantasy vs GGplay (Incruit OSL semifinals).

^ On this note:
Fantasy 29 - 10 (74.36%) 08/05/2011 - 12/10/2011 5 of those losses came from Flash.
Fantasy 52 - 19 (73.24%) 05/10/2010 - 12/10/2011 ^Larger time frame included, not anything above 75% though...
