The minimum wage for waiters is different. The reason is that it is assumed you will make so many dollars an hour on average from tips, so for a waiter, 2.13 is minimum wage. Most people tip 15-20%, which is customary. For some restaurants, if your meal is more than X dollars, they automatically force you to pay an 18% minimum tip. Unfortunately, foreigners who come to this country don't understand that and generally do not tip at restaurants. Also, the poor, the elderly and devout religious types (of ALL religions) are notoriously bad at tip giving. Activist types are also notoriously bad. The rich are very hit or miss. The best tippers are generally middle class families with children. | ||
