I'm not sure I understand the objection here—the whole point is to give exposure and a better chance at ASL to some lesser known players. because you are not recognizing the merit of top amateurs and eventually just be giving handouts to lower tier amateurs. would care about a tourney where you are watching ever decreasing tiers of players with every edition? There are always up and coming players. There have to be if the game is going to survive. You're right that someone like Soma could probably show up with his "top amateur" status and crush this tournament again and again. But that would be a tournament people would stop watching and a tournament that didn't have any real point. They have to restrict competitors somehow, and this seems totally reasonable. If Afreeca find themselves really scraping the bottom of the barrel I'm sure they'll change eligibility, but there's no real sign of that so far. and it looks like its starting to. i rather see a noname try to beat the likes of soma/scan than watch noname1 beat noname2. this is supposed to be a premier amateur competition, but its actually a handout event

You aren't going to see a bunch of big name players. Because it's for amateurs. Who are not necessarily names you recognize. Since that's literally the point of the tournament. The tournament for amateurs. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand. Also, as amateurs go, Ss1nz is not a noname. He's been in KCM Challenge and has qualified for multiple ASLs. I'm not familiar with the other person who has qualified, but that, again, is the point of the tournament. What you would rather watch isn't what Afreeca wants to make. The tournament is doing what it's meant to.
