I feel that it isn't right to put a restriction on who can join for my goal is to attain "mass-gaming". I just ask that you tell me your aka and that you are joining by sending me a PM on Tl-net.

Haha, I just got back from two weeks of soccer tournaments and I am deathly sore...anyways..
I know that I haven\'t been a great contribution to the TL-Net Community, but I\'d like to suggest an idea that I\'ve wanted to suggest since my time here.
Whenever I join \"op tl-west\", I either see one of two things:
1) A lack of people in the channel
2) A lot of people in the channel, but a lack of interest in playing a game.
Some players simply think they are too good for playing the not as skilled players and other times, they would simply play with their group of friends. I wanted to create an environment where it is easier to find games and simply improve your game by playing with other players.
What I wanted was to create a new clan dedicated to the Team Liquid starcraft players who do not have a team. But, I\'m really not too sure whether there is enough interest for this idea.

I guess I have thought it out a bit, but not to the extent that I know exactly what I want and what I plan to do. I am not sure what the criteria will be for being eligible to join or exactly how the clan is going to be run.
I put out this poll to see whether I should make my idea into reality or let it go. If you reply yes, no, or maybe, please add a quick comment to see what things I should be considering. For one, if the clan were to happen, I would need a \"bot host\" and someone who would be willing to work side by side with me in managing the team.

i think this could work...and it would be nice if it did, the lack of people wanting to game in tl-west bothers me...however, you would first off have to pick a gateway to have this clan (i wouldnt reccomend west, its quite dead), then decide on criteria for able players to join. I think that for your idea to be a reality, you would have to allow, mediocre and above players to be able to test or trial for this clan.

It's always up to the enthusiasm and commitment of the members above all (at least that's what I feel). It'd be very easy for this to turn into another idle/chat channel w/o dedication from both sides: top and bottom.
I am not exactly sure what your vision for this team would be, (how high level, how inclusive/exclusive, etc) or whether TL actually has enough players who fit the criteria, but I would think that it never hurts to give this a try, whether it gets off the ground or not.

Hi Guys,
I think it is just because it is summer time. Most people are on chill mode but once school starts we will have more activity. People are taking advantage of being outside. Also sMi. moved to another server and many people are traveling.

i would join if uni wasn't gonna start in 2 weeks' time for me. 
i suggest you have a poll. some people enjoy op tl-west because of the relaxed, chilling out environment, so that's why they go there. others are clanless players hoping to find trustworthy, disciplined practice partners. if enough people like your idea, you should go ahead.

I usually bounce from active channel to active channel... I love to play a ton of games but..I find my self getting bored just mass gaming on ICCUP...Having everybody collectively together in a channel/group makes for such a cozzier atmosphere

im in for sure! im pretty sure im at the same level as you guys and want to just game with people of similar levels. im tired of this high makamaka (hawaiian for big headed) crap clans filled with people too good to help peers improve

Well, you dont really need a clan for tl players. If theyre active, theyll show up and play. My /f list is essentially composed of people I see on a consistent basis and play with often as a result.

well, some pple roll differently than others, and I am sure there are pple who aren't confident enough in their abilities to ask for games with pple in tl-west etc.
If this setting proves to be useful for a handful of people, even then I think it serves a purpose for its existence.

its not always that people are not confident in their abilities, its more that they cannot get players to constructively play with them to help them improve, sometimes they cant get anyone to play with them at all to begin with

You're missing the point. op tl-west is small because it is a lot of good people, and lower skilled people without clans hardly go there because the people either wont want to play them, or the people there are to good for the person to play. But with a clan, we can all play together, no matter the skill, and try to help eachother and improve.

After reading everyones' posts, I feel pretty happy about the results.
There are people who don't like the idea and there are people who do, but after reading some of the replies I have made a couple decisions that are completely personal at the time.
The main channel, sadly, will not be on abyss for I believe that abyss isn't an environment that doesn't promote "mass gaming with better or similar skilled players". It is more of a gateway that asks for wins and improvement in ranks. Therefore, I have decided to put the channel in the US West Gateway

Haha and as for name capitalization, I'm sure many people aren't too picky about these things. My account is Art.Love and if there happens to be a consensus on capitalization, it'd be very simple to change.

I actually had emp researched and was hiding all my vessels. But then I saw like 40 Guardians and ran them all home. Next I looked back all my Tanks were dead and I don't really know what happened. :X

Clan Art is as active as it was when it started, just some non committed people left, but the good people stayed. It won't go inactive.

Maybe you're taking this thing too seriously and also missing the point that we don't want to stress over hardcore 1v1's and would like some fun with people we know.

sorry for bumping this thread but I have couple things to say.
First is clan art still running? The last time I checked it out was like early August and it was still running but I just checked back a few days ago and the channel is pretty dead. Today there were a couple people but not many. Yesterday when i was online, noone was in the channel.
I really liked the idea of clan art but it seems the clan died really fast. Maybe it is just the times that I am on nobody else is on.
I didn't play much starcraft during the past month cuz I was away for a while and some other stuff but the tournaments that were held within the clan seemed interesting. I wasn't able to play in the tournaments so I was wondering if any are going to be held soon or plans of something similar is being talked about.
Sorry for posting this here and not on the clan art site but it seems the site is pretty dead as well. Also I was hoping that maybe some people who find this idea interesting as well will join art.

Yup, I think if the founder was semi-active things would have been different. But what can you do, pple have their own lives to take care of first and foremost; she's been away on soccer tournaments a lot lately. I still play on tag every other day or so, since pple are usually on around early evening PST even through its decreased level of activity.
(about 5-10 pple still show up on tag actively, of which oshibori is not one - so I kinda find it funny how he is the one declaring the obituary... not that I disagree too much though.)

I took off the tag when art started going inactive. And I base the obituary off of typing /who op clanart. every time I logon, and not seeing art. tag in tl-west either

We beat that Muta control UMS yesterday. Me, equi, tad, and lemon, even though equi flaked out for the last couple levels. I've never beaten it before. I like the despair every time a new level loads, "OMG THIS ISNT POSSIBLE" but we always did it.

I was thinking (if it's not too tricky) to actually set up a realm that only Art. players can play on (sort of how iCCup works) and needing a CD-key won't be needed; just find BW-mini or something if you don't have Starcraft and the .reg file and you can play on-the-go, if that's your style. If it doesn't work out I'll go out and buy copies of Starcraft classic and set up bots on both East and West (to reduce lag, I know I have lag issues on West VERY often).
I can also probably nab Pressure to join, I hassle him everyday on AIM ^_^

Depends on what you mean by "lasted." Art.Love went inactive after only a week, but the channel was still active and art.less, art.work, art.agalloch, arti.ificial, and I continued playing but I went inactive and took off my tag cuz of school.

I think we should host a small tournament this weekened to kick off clan art part 2.Ill' try organizing something if people are willing to participate.
If you might be willing to participate can you post suggestions for the tourney. Perhaps maps, style of brackets, times, or whatever sounds useful.
One thing I do not want is it to be broken up over several days because it will probably die after the first day.

Maps should be: Python 1.3, Tau Cross, Longinus 2.0, and Reverse Temple, so everyone is familiar with the maps and the match-ups are balanced.

Just have a simple eliminations tourney.. one that could be played in 1-2 days. This is not a serious tournament, we just want art ppl to play together/have fun and having a full long-ass tourney will just cause complications.
edit: I can help by keeping track of matches and updating brackets if you want.

ya sry bout that. Actually ppl played the right matchups in the first round.
Firstly, 4 people didn't show so I had to find 4 people within a few minutes. After finding 4, I modified the bracket and everything looked to be going ok.
3 of the 4 first round games were played. Rain didn't sign up but was in the channel so I put him as one of the players. I didn't realize he wasn't supposed to be playing, so Pressure couldn't play his first game.
In the second part of the tourney it fell apart. Pressure was playing Oshibori for some reason, so Acheron didn't have anyone to play with.I played Duke like I was suppose to. Oshibori left after playing Pressure, so Wave didn't have anyone to play with either.
Bracket This shows what games were supposed to be played and the results of the games that were actually played.

Not many people showed and people randomly left.

Well I got plenty of ggs on hamachi yesterday anyway. It seemed like everything was in order when the tournament started, so I didn't bother to wait around and see if subs were needed. :/
Lets try to keep this active, at least on weekends! is there an "official" hamachi server where I can beg for games? Im in Art Server 3, OneOther and tl123123 right now, and there are art members spread out in all of them. Maybe we should try to get all art members in one server? I think a place to meet and play games is of highest priority. And I wuold mind making that place on hamachi rather than on USwest. Of course, one doesn't exclude the other, but until we can get our own channel running i think we should decide for an official server, and post server//pass where everyone can see it.
Also this thread is not a very good advertisment I think... When I saw the thread title this summer I though it was a clan called "asdf" that were painting things...
Maybe we should create a new thread with a better title and have an OP with official server name, member list and from a member that we expect to stay active and edit the op when needed.

Sorry to get off topic, but how do you get games on Hamachi? I see that there's like 10 people online, I assume they're all in games. How do you get to know when everyone's done playing so you can join a new game? I made my name "PM/IRC Chill when you're done" and sat in a game, but that doesn't work... I guess you just have to idle in the lobby for 30 minutes hoping you link up with a group of people?

What I do is just send a chat to everyone who's online saying "game?", and wait until someone responds. It takes a while but once someone does I usually get several games out of it

Also, that is why you should alt tab between games to check hama if there are more people that want to join.

I was thinking of kicking people on the Hamachi servers for people who aren't actively looking for a game since there are obviously more than 20 people in the clan and a server only takes 20 people ... any ideas?

Try microing mutalisks ZvT on hamachi and then going on west and trying to do the same thing. It's a significant difference :p

What really bugs me about hamachi is that there is no chat lobby and there is no way of knowing whether someone is afk/in-game/or w/e... We should all just get on msn and make one Clan Art chatroom to organize games and rant .

Maybe I'm just a newbie that has missed something, but my problem with meeting in a channel is that i actively have to taskswitch to broodwar to check if someone is there. hamachi can run in the background and will alert me when someone sends me a message.
So apart from the wonderful lagless hamachi I think it will be easier to find games if it is with some application that can run in the background that will alert me when someone wants a game. preferably it should make a sound as well so i only have to be in the same room.
Chat programs like msn/skype does this, but if we should all add each other on MSN, it would quickly be 90% inactive people, and it would no longer be viable to just message someone and ask for a game. Preferably it should be a program that people use ONLY for this, so when we see someone online we know that it is a person that wants to play sc. Maybe we could dig up some really rare chat-client that no one uses otherwise?
EDIT: Or am I missing some smart feature on MSN? Exactly how does a chatroom work?
of course, having a bnet channel would be far better than not having a channel... But I cant see that channel being more successful than op TL-west in the long run. You are more than welcome to prove me wrong though!

Why not just use IRC?
You can easily set it up so it plays a sound or whatever as soon as a certain word is uttered (for instance your name) and you don't have to PM every single user just to ask them if they want to play.

I'm waiting in the hamachi server if anyone wants to game. If noone comes I'm considering just playing iccup ;p
