Best Regards Rosi I am going to guess that there is a "confidence interval" at play here. Basically, the system is more confident about your skill depending on how much data (games played) it has on you. So, for example, let's say you have a team of 3 players: 1. You at 2000 points with 100 games 2. Your wife at 2500 points with 100 games 3. Your friend at 2000 points with 5 games Let's say you, as a team, win a game. You will get 15 points, because you won with a rating of 2000. Your wife will get 5 points, because she won with a rating of 2500 - she has the same amount of games as you, but is rated higher than you, so she will earn less points per win than you (against the same level of opponent/same team). Meanwhile, your friend will gain 150 points, because even though their rating is the same as yours, they have only played 5 games. Why is this important? The system lets people gain/lose more points when they start off in order to properly calibrate their ranking as soon as possible. If, for example, everyone could only win a maximum of 25 points per game, then it would take a player whose "real skill" is 3000 but placed at 2000 rating 40 wins or more to get to their "true" rating. In the process, they are constantly underrated by the algorithm, meaning imbalanced games. Thus, for newer players, it makes more sense to subtract/add a lot of points to their rating after each win/loss in order to more accurately place them as fast as possible. So, my best bet is that you have played more games than your allies who are winning more points (assuming you are at the same rating). Another way to think of it is that the system already has a pretty good estimate of what your "real skill" is, but a worse estimate of the other player, and as in the process of calibrating expectations vs. reality. | ||
