I think there's not as much interest among BW players for reports like that anyway, although when the site was larger there were lots of articles and people replied to them. I don't know the stats of how many people post in BW now vs 15 years ago, but it's probably pretty depressing. Since you are the author, I'd like to disagree with this post, not to mess with you, but to encourage people to still create some form of content - especially since you yourself wrote more than just one interesting piece on several issues. If you compare the site to 15 years ago, your analysis should not stop by comparing the total amount of posts and posters, but the entire environment and infrastructure. Back then social media existed, but played a relatively minor role. Nowadays the so-called "digital natives" (I dislike the term, but it fits) grew up with mobile devices and social media as information hubs. Obviously the style of communication is very different there, likes, re-tweets and such are more common than just leaving a #1 or "I like that post". It also means that an original source might be spread and gets re-pasted all over different channels. This does not necessarily mean the content itself isn't wanted, it's just consumed differently. Forum culture (and blog posting) itself is anachronistic, yet something that still works surprisingly well on TL. This doesn't mean the content isn't wanted or doesn't get readers. On the contrary, for my last bigger pieces I got still tons of upvotes and whatnot on reddit, just few answers around here. I get how that is demotivating, but hopefully writers won't stop publishing articles or write about whatever topic they like. It'd be sad to fall for the trap. However, I'd like to encourage any "new" member of this community (anyone who joined within the last 4-6 years is new to me) to just leave a comment behind, so the author has a signal that his work pays off. That’s a pretty good point, as someone who actively prefers a structured forum and doesn’t really use/like Twitter and Reddit much, I hadn’t really factored in that the feedback and validation for creators is also going to be diffused across multiple platforms. I think the forum structure it works great in a long-term community such as this. You can find old articles and re-read them from time to time, search old content easier etc, I quite regularly re-read older articles especially the long form ones about players and their legacy. I’m only slightly older at 29 than many of the folks in the native scene, we’ve collected as many in a Facebook group as we can find as we don’t have the luxury of a big player base over here, but even then it’s really noticeable how habits and preferences have changed as social media became the main mechanism of distributing and sharing digital content. Something I'll note is that while the highlight videos I create get posted here, most of my traffic actually comes from YouTube recommending my videos to people on the YouTube website.
Moreover, I also post the videos on Reddit and I definitely get traffic from there - so I guess what I'm trying to say is that my audience comes from different sources, though for the most part it's mostly people finding the videos on YouTube.
Also I don't know if this is related to anything, but I only really started making Brood War content in mid-2018. I'm so new to the scene that I doubted Flash's ability as a player and the rest of the Brood War Staff thought (maybe they still think) that I was literally insane.

Would always be awesome to have more Brood War content!

I genuinely wish I could contribute. I'm a huge, HUGE Starcraft fan. I got in at GSL Season 1 (the Fruitdealer one) and I've been hooked ever since. Sadly, I only got into Brood War around the time that the ASL started, which sucks, as, and as flowery as this might sound, I'd consider Brood War to be as close to an RTS artform as possible. I espouse my love for Brood War to ALL my friends, and try to get them into it, with all the absolutely breathtaking history surrounding it, but because it's not big and flashy, it's impossible to get people into a really old school RTS. It's all about MOBAS now.
I'm not sure where I was going with this. I guess to summarise, I have a great, GREAT deal of passion for Starcraft as a franchise, but I don't have a lot of player experience, so I worry that, despite being an aspiring writer in my real life, I wouldn't be able to do justice to the INCREDIBLY high standard of content I've come to expect from Team Liquid. If there's any other ideas of how I could contribute, I'd be all ears. I visit TL once a day, every day, and have done since the origins of Code S.

I did write some pretty solid previews for the prestigious Team Liquid Live Report StarLeague in my day.
I do fucking love me Brood War, I really don’t know enough about the game to write anything insightful, SC2 seems to have enough writers at present

A word to the wise - BigFan is a very different person when he's not posting on Team Liquid.
Just as a friendly heads up.
ON A MUCH MORE SERIOUS NOTE: The Brood War Staff are a bunch of (very) friendly people. If you're curious about writing for them you have nothing to lose by submitting them a piece!

I don't know why this thread is still alive, but just want to throw in a quick pitch for anyone interested in writing with us.
If you write something and submit it to me, it will come out beautiful. You will improve as a writer. If English is your second language, your language skills will improve. I try to work with everyone closely and support them .
Gecko's right. Don't worry about whether your writing is good or bad. Just [Nike] it. #ad

The community has dispersed. Due to many factors of course (too many subforums, many other choices for gaming content outside TL, original population no longer 99% students, shift in culture, antiquated mode of communication). It's still very nice to have a place to find information about upcoming tournaments, schedules, maps and interviews though. It's the best place to learn a pro has come back and is streaming again. If TL didn't exist I basically wouldn't know about ASL and KSL and I'd assume that SC had actually died completely.

So if you want, consider joining the team to help with content! Send over a write up of something to EsportsJohn and we'll make it happen! We expect obviously that the articles are good, but we're not a publishing company requiring everything to be pristine. Let's make it happen! Indeed. We aren't a publishing company and not everything will be pristine, but everyone just tries their best due to passion. No one is going to win a nobel prize in literature with their writing, but half the fun is just really getting into it and sharing the experience with guys who are as passionate as you are. I had to fight hard to become the #1 flash fan among BW staff so I'm satisfied haha. Fucking bo5 me right now scrub. We still have that outstanding PvT grudge between Flash and father over eating a :pvt: emote.

TL:DR, people are busier now, the team is smaller, and there's more content out there so we can't do as much for one specific tournament you're interested in. We have to be empathetic towards the psychological struggles of our fellow players.
