In an interview Flash was asked:
How do you feel about SC2 progamers retiring and returning to BW on Afreeca? Is that something you would consider?
Flash: Hmmm, well, I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. I don’t know about streaming on Afreecatv but I do intend on playing BW again later on. A lot of fans are wanting that from me.
Fantastic news! We cant wait to see you play Brood War again Lee Young Ho.

Flash has probably accumulated quite a lot of cash but Afreeca with his star power is a lucrative opportunity one is unwilling to let go.

Oh-my-god
Dreams are coming true. :D

|
Even though it doesn't mean anything, still best news of 2015, lol.
|
Flash should return to bw a year or so before joining the army. He is still 22 and has lots of years to be succesful in sc2. I hope he wouldnt consider returning to bw soon, that would suck for me at least.

Would be really cool if he came back and competed in an OGN BW tournament. He might just mean a couple dumb show matches, though.
It would be interesting if he thought streaming, especially on Afreeca, was a little below him (or below people's image of him). Lots of people might think they want to see Flash streaming BW in his PJs, but I think there's something to be said for maintaining his super star image.
Maybe we will actually get to see him play another race or play random, like his glory day interviews suggested keke.

oh wow would be so cool to see flash back in bw

Flash BW stream would be a cash cow like no other
If LP is correct, Shuttle made $21,000 a month at some point in 2013...and Shuttle is Shuttle, whereas Flash is...flash. I imagine he'll give SC2 a few more years (??) and then cash out the BW fame as long as he can...maybe sooner, who knows
|
There are like 2 threads with this info why make another one?
|
This is just purely awesome, I hope a lot of foreigners starts to play BW again also. And i DO HOPE BW takes over SC2 when it comes to competitive scene and sponsors. But that's just my hope n dreams

Because this thread is specifically about Flash one day streaming BW on afreeca. I don't know if you go on the sc2 forum but talking about BW doesn't go to well there... imo anyway. So having a separate thread is appropriate.
also, pressuring works! Fans want Flash in bw

hehe yes i read that too. However, the answers in the interview were very much stiff, cautious progamer asnwers. I wouldn't give to much about it. I believe it when he tells this to Lilsusie in an interview (;

:D My point was that there really isn't any top class bw pros around atm at who were at Bisu's level during the Kespa era (JD, Flash, fantasy, jangbi, stork)
Besides,

Hm as a sc2 fan I'm actually not disappointed. Flash will still try hard in sc2 for years, but I think it's great if he plays more BW at the end of his career before he joins the military! Would love to see that and watch it for sure! Might just be that Jaedong does the same, since although he didn't mention BW, he did say that he wants to compete in Korea again before he retires. How epic would that be if both played BW again at the same time .

SC2 content is irrelevant for BW fans who do not follow both games, it's not like we keep LiquidLegends or LiquidDota or LiquidHearth open as well if we don't follow those games. As this announcement from the interview pertained potentially to BW rather than SC2 it was reasonable for this to be cross-posted here.
I'm quite excited but it seems like a very vague announcement. I don't expect Flash to switch anytime soon as long as Proleague continues running. I suspect he'll spend a year or so on BW before he joins the military, but given his young age that might still be a while.
|
Yeah Flash will definitely stick around to see what LOTV offers him, so a BW stream is a long way off. This is just something cool down the line, like 2-5 years down the line

Definitely no military service for Flash yet.
[I've heard things about AIMAG and how winning it gives you the possibility to hold off on (or completely bypass?) military service, and I seem to recall Flash winning that. Not surprised at all, but I know 이영호 mentioned at one point he was going to become a Zerg user, but didn't get a chance to actually do it...
Now would be a Perfect time for Flash to Switch to Zerg in BW. 이영호 should play Zerg... Do it Flash!!! Create some new Zerg strategies and tactics.

Probably be called up for draft when they near 30, a lot of the conscripts seem to go in right after high school to get the 2 years of service out of the way. You basically get paid nothing during that period, probably end up spending the little you earn at the PX.

Current conscription laws stipulate that athletes who win medals in the Olympic Games or gold medals in the Asian Games are granted exemptions but still required to do four weeks of basic training. In 2011, the Military Manpower Administration proposed amendments to the exemptions: to include men who have not completed middle school, and to change to a points-based system on a prescribed scale for athletes who win in prestigious competitions. This is partly to address criticism for the easy exemptions and to recognise the privilege to those who show steady performance.
I'm not sure if AIMAG is considered part of the Asian Games.

FlaSh only needs to regain like, 50% of his old form to be as competitive as them, which can be easily done in a few months of constant afreeca streaming.
Mind, Sharp? dont forget flash has the overall best TvT in the business back in the day. everyone hardly ever practices TvT now, its all about fundamentals and build preparation which flash has loads of compared to the rest.

I believe the Asian Olympic council oversees AIMAG (Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games), but I'm not certain whether it counts as an Olympics sanctioned event or not.

I dream just like you guys, but the truth and the matter is no : they won't necessarily benefit a lot as you say from switching back. If it was the case they would have come back a long time ago. For those of you who have read my quick chat with Hydra at the wcs in France, you know that it's a question of money, of salary, of official tournaments and stuff.

hydra didnt say he intends to go back to BW in the future, flash did.
its not just about money (compared to hydra, flash has already earned a shitton from both bw (primarily) and sc2 anyway), its about his personal preference, his future plans and also his impending military service (assuming he has it like other regular male koreans).

What a great news (and please Flash, tell to BaBy to follow you on afreeca =D) !

That's so good to hear. Maybe JvF can be a thing again :D
Haven't followed BW at all lately, is there any new blood playing SSL though? That'd be really nice as well. Having new players get to the top, must be hard but it would be good for the scene.

Maybe if he's really rusty.... that's what you're trying to say, yes?
But you'd have to think that a Flash even close to being in form would curb-stomp all of those guys, with the possible exception of MinD.

But then, post Kespa Starleagues have proven, that they have a spirit of their own. Not all players are now, where they were expected to be ranking-wise based on pre SOSPA reults and some are performing considerably better. Think of Jangbi, as the winner of the last two OSL`s, he should have been a favorite for the last SSL, but how did he perform?
If Flash get's back to BW, it won't be tomorrow and not this year. And by then, he will be facing stiff competition Starleagues filled with ex Pro's who had more time to practice then him. Don't get me wrong, i think he will be big when he returns and a strong contender too, but besides that, im not too certain.

This reminds me so much of the elephant in the room discussion when the be kespa pros were about to switch to sc2. most thought they'd stomp the competition, but in the end the kespa pros didn't dominate as much as expected. Will the now returning same ex bw kespa pros live up to the hype on the second transition?? Who knows?? Will be great fun to see how it goes!

:D that's an interesting comparison, though i didn't have it in mind. And back then, i thought there was an elephant in the room (;
But note, a lot of players have already switched back and a few "S Class" players too. Bisu, Jangbi, (Mind), Effort, (Sea) brackets indicate "S class" might be an overstatement for these. Just my opinion (;

This is great news for bw fans. Just the thought of him returning has created a topic. I hope he does return to give Bisu a challenge.

Yup, and by the same token, you can also look at things like Bisu taking SSL9, or Mind, a former MSL winner, taking the KSL.
Top players from the MSL/OSL days vs guys who didn't become stars 'til most of the top BW guys retired or went to SC2? Who would I pick? Hmm, let me see...

So far, although the sample size is just 2, every S class player has quickly regained dominating form. EffOrt and Bisu have both been extremely strong since coming back. FlaSh was much better than either of those two.
Obviously he won't perform right away, but assuming he doesn't pull a JangBi and puts some EffOrt into it I have no doubts he will be back to being a lethal player.

I found out about pro BW after SC2 came out, so I haven't seen more than a few games of FlaSh. I have read articles about him. I see his career statistics. I have seen people hype him considerably. I get it, he was nearly perfect mechanically, had amazing "star sense" and instincts, and could expertly execute a wide range of builds. But isn't it much to say FlaSh was MUCH better than Bisu and EffOrt?
EffOrt beat him to win an OSL. And didn't Bisu beat FlaSh twice in the final BW Proleague finals? FlaSh was always the favorite, but it's not like Bisu or EffOrt couldn't compete with him. I don't know, everyone just makes it sound like he was untouchable. Heck, even JangBi beat FlaSh on his way to completing a "Legend of the Fall" run to his first OSL.

it's kinda hard to describe the year of god young ho if you weren't around then. he was absolutely untouchable and the only question was if jaedong or someone else would play him in the finals of each osl/msl. bisu was in a massive slump post 2008 and he was never really seen as someone who was a serious contender for an individual league after that, even though he still had strong proleague results. people would get sorta hyped for bisu when he would do well in PL but then he'd bomb out in the ro36 or 16 and then people would like "fuck bisu y u suck." effort was weird, he was like a rising player in 08-09 but he was a lot stronger in proleague. his OSL run kind of came out of nowhere. i think a lot of people including me would have loved to see effort win a starleague but between flash, jaedong, fantasy, stork, and maybe some others like calm/lux we didn't really expect it
flash lost his luster in late 11-12 but i think that was right after he had wrist surgery. it's not a matter of losing a couple of games to other players, it's the fact that he crushed the scene so hard in a super competitive era

the only reason bw pros couldn't curb stomp sc2 players is because it was an entirely different game that required different skills from bw. plus all the young talent that would have gone to bw went to sc2 instead, look at the progamer drafts after sc2 started, i don't think there were any players who went to a pro team in the 3 years between sc2's release and kespa switching. new talent like life or maru would've been drafted to a pro team but instead played sc2, you can't expect TBLS to hang on forever
|
The reason kespa pro's don't dominate in sc2 is because sc2 has less areas to excel in.
In brood war even at the highest level Jaedong's mutas are something different from all other zerg players' mutas. There's no such thing in sc2.
|
Dominant or not, they still won almost all the starleagues since the switch. The ones they didn't win - as was rightly mentioned - were won by the newest generation, namely Maru and Life.
|
it was still the generation of bw players that came after TBLS that's winning sc2 shit right? i'm pretty sure classic debuted in PL after i started watching so it must've been 09 or even later. are there any players from the practice player/b-team era of sc2 that are still playing? i feel like a lot of them quit even before i stopped watching
|
The only reason that ... is that ... BW muta's ... Jaedong.
