Assuming Wikipedia is correct, today is the original StarCraft's birthday. I guess technically the Brood War forum isn't totally the right place for this since it came out at the end of November in the same year, but close enough. Released in 1998 that marks the 17th birthday this year, meaning people born the year it came out are getting close to graduating high school and can probably legally drive in your country.
Hats off to the game that has brought us unlimited hours of enjoyment and remains one of the most beautiful digital creations nearly two decades after release. Here's to all the late nights spent getting the speed upgrade to micro Scouts on BGH, the struggle to get to the next rank on the ladder, the times spent arguing over professional tournaments, and the friends we made from it all.

Oh man past me had no idea of the terrors to come and of the sheerest joy ever to pop out of a barracks .... damn you dark templars, nearly gave me a heart attack the first time I experienced them in my base.
StarCraft will always be special, I still remember the first time that, as a kid, I ran my marines shit scared when I saw those little bugs (lings) running after me in the campaign :')
I feel like StarCraft has been with me like forever :D I will always remember the first thing I did which was placing a CC on the Torasque map while the person playing was busy. It was so stressful because I knew the Ultra is gonna come back soon and I didn't know what to do :D
i was 18 when the game came out, no internet so much here in england unless you were at college, ive grown up with this thing. still as active now as i was when i had all the time in the world . . . erm . . thats a bad thing right?

Happy BDay SC!! Best game ever !! Playing the game from 2004-2009 was unforgetful. The bw community at its best, with ladders of wtgour pgtour iccup and of course TL providing us with all the goodies <3
"Stay off the pink stuff Dad," my son (who is now 20 years old) used to tell me, referring to the creep. Time flies and StarCraft has been a big part of the past 17 years for me. Happy Birthday StarCraft!! The best game ever!!

I had the opportunity to play Starcraft on March 30th, 1998.
My brother used to work for Playstation, and traded games with a Blizzard employee. He gave him a copy of Starcraft, the day before it hit the shelves.
Still remember trying zerg as my first race, and having no clue how to mine minerals or what the overlord did. Coming from Warcraft 2, the Zerg seemed incomprehensible.
I remember getting the game on the first day it came out, and seeing the long, long, LOOOONG lines for it at the game store. The anticipation was palpable, electric.
Happy late birthday to the greatest RTS ever and quite possibly the most entertaining e-sport. While I never really followed the BW's proscene and just casually knew some of the big pro names because of Korean culture once I got immersed into it I never regret it. May BW continue to prosper.

I cant believe it has been 17 years... I still remember that first time playing - i tried to build turrets to save my base from zerglings. This game was my best friend from 2009 to about 2011. it was something to rely on when i felt lonley and lost in a new country.
Feels like it was longer than 17 years ago, I played this game. Diablo 2 seems more fresh in my memory. Good game for its time, moving RTS forward halfway in my gaming life. That deserves to be a milestone. Happy birthday, Starcraft.
24 years ago I ran to the shop every other day for two weeks, because the delivery was delayed, or the German version, or whatever. When I finally got my hands on it is was exactly as good as I imagined it to be. It was like a dream come true :-)
