SSL 11 preliminary qualifier March 14-15

Looks like SSL 11 is (hopefully) around the corner, new announcement about the preliminary qualifying tournament:

- SBENU is the sponsor.
- OGN is once again the organizer, along with SonicTV.
- The qualifying tournament will consist of 128 players.
- Anyone can participate (pros, ex-pros, semi-pros).
- It will be an online tournament.
- Signing up for a spot requires verification of identify. They specifically say that you will be disqualified if you use someone else's identity to sign up for multiple slots. I think this is to prevent people from rigging their own wins by playing against their own fake identity.
- Sign-ups from Mar 10-13
- Players must turn their web cams on so that referees/organizers can access them. Presumably this is to minimize shenanigans.
- All matches are BO3s.
- Map pool: Circuit Breaker, La Mancha, All Or Nothing (SBENU)
- RO128 begins Mar 14 at 3PM
- RO32, Finals, and Ranking Games begin on Mar 15 at 1PM
- 1st~8th (!!) advance to the main tournament.

1. 타인 개인정보 도용 및 부모님 명의도용 문제가 발생함에 따라 앞으로 반드시 본인의 명의로만 대회참가 신청을 할 수 있게 되었음을 알려드립니다.
2. 따라서 실명인증 문제가 발생할 경우 대회참가가 불가능합니다.

① 홈페이지 대회 참가 페이지에서 대회참가 신청 글을 클릭합니다
② 입력 요구사항을 모두 입력하며 종족에 Zerg 저그, Protoss 프로토스, Terran 테란, Random 랜덤 네 가지 중 반드시 하나만 선택하여 기입합니다.
③ 참가 신청을 완료하면 운영자가 확인댓글을 달아드립니다.
(신상정보가 확인이되지 않을 경우 신청하더라도 참가할 수 없습니다)

☞ 2015년 3월 13일(금) 까지 접수하셔야 하며 기한을 넘길 시 참가신청이 취소됩니다.

▶ 7. 주의사항
① 참가신청만 하면 접수가 완료되지 않습니다. 신청을 먼저 했더라도 실명확인이 되지않아 접수완료 댓글이 달리지 않을 경우 참가할 수 없습니다.
② 2015년 3월 13일(금)까지 접수&실명확인을 완료하지 않은 분은 신청이 자동 취소됩니다.
③ 네이버 id 가입자명과 참가자명이 다를 경우 대행자로 전화연락을 통해 확인 하시기 바랍니다.
④ 참가확인은 신청글 댓글을 통해 참가확인을 입력하여 확인할 수 있습니다.
⑤ 참가신청 후 서버간 데이터 처리를 위해 약간의 시간이 있은 후에 확인이 가능하며, 확인이 되지 않을 시 대행자-장진현(Ever)P(Beatles)(하단 연락처 참조)를 통해 문의하시기 바랍니다.

② 경 기 맵 : 1Set(써킷브레이커 1.0), 2Set(라만차 1.1), 3Set(건곤일척스베누 2.0) - 맵순서 동일
※맵 버전에 맞게 경기하셔야합니다. 다른 버전으로 경기할시 경기 무효처리입니다.
③ 명단확인 : 조별 참가자 명단및 대진표 발표 - 2015년 3월 14(토) 09시
④ 대 진 표 : 당일 홈페이지에 공지
⑤ 대회시작 : 2015년 3월 14일(토) 15시 128강 시작 / 2015년 3월 15일(일) 13시 32강~결승전 및 순위결정전 시작

So does this mean SBENU is still the sole sponsor? I was really hoping the success of SSL10 would have netted Sonic some financial support, as well as the confirmation other businesses are taking a possible serious interest in the scene again. With the OGN brand attached, I was sure someone else would sign up. Or are these details specifically only for these qualifiers or something?

U know SBENU is all over the place, sponsoring LOL, Sudden Attack, running events and whatnot. Sonic clearly has enough cash to do it so suddenly stepping away from the central starleague theme and letting another company take the credit would seem kinda unwise.

As Stratos said, Sonic is not some online shoe shop anymore where he has to take loans out to sponsor his tournaments. In fact, I would bet that sponsoring the SSL himself is a sound business decision at this point which will actually pay off financially.

No. He said he was going to this for a previous SSL (8 or 9, I don't remember), but that never happened. I was really excited for that back then and I am now too. This is the most important part of keeping Brood War running; new players.

Indeed, SSL 10 had a qualifying tournament as well. Two big differences in SSL 11:

1) 8 spots instead of 1
2) Pros allowed instead of only amateurs

With the large number of BW pros now streaming part-time on Afreeca, not all of them will automatically be seeded into the main tournament. I am guessing that the increase in the number of qualifying spots and the participation of pro players in the qualifiers has to do with the increase in the talent pool.

so, is there reason to believe the Qualification slots are not open to foreigners? Otherwise, this could be a tournament of major interest for a lot of guys.
