SC2 is slowly but surely killing the korean E-sports scene, as far as the former BW pros goes. Such great players just keep on retiring and ofcourse thats not surprising at all. Their dreams and pasion were in Broodwar not in some other games.
I hope Jaehoon can participate in the amateur scene and find something enjoyable to work from now on. Jaehoon Hwaiting!

The way I see it, SC2 is slowly but surely invigorating the korean amateur BW-scene.
It's all a matter of perspective
On-topic: These news make me both sad and happy at the same time; sad because progaming in SC2 didn't work out for Jaehoon, happy because I might be able to see him play BW again (which, admittedly, is pretty selfish of me)... Even if he doesn't return to BW, I do wanna wish him the best of luck with whatever he decides to do.

He did okay for T8 in SC2 PL compared to what he did in BW recently. If you aren't passionate about the game anymore that's a pretty time to get out. Two threads with regards to this now in the BW & SC2 section. D; I wonder if there's a way we can put news/threads in both sections without having to have separate threads for them.

Two different audiences with two very different values and perspectives regarding the same event in the same thread? Doesn't end well.

he did great for Team 8 after the transition but his recent games haven't been that great. Guessing his passion was BW and he's gotten tired of SCII, dunno though. It's disappointing that he's leaving right after Team 8 finally got a sponsor but hope he plays some BW on afreeca and in sonic's league! Best of luck Jaehoon!

I'm ready for more to come. Sonic gaming is amazing.
KeSPA teams are rumored to be cutting a lot of the B-team and poaching from eSF teams in October (when the "Don't hite eSF players" rule expires), so I wouldn't be at all surprised to be a lot more retirements shortly, especially since BW didn't up and die the way a lot of people expected.
Jaehoon's retirement is a little surprising, because his 11-13 record isn't that bad. Though, I suppose, most of his wins are against random guys, and he couldn't get into the OSL. I guess that means it's more likely he'll play BW. I think a lot of KeSPA protosses are more inclined than the other races to not like SC2, since they're playing the least mechanical race in a less mechanical game.

I think it's gotten to the point where all the damage SC2 can do to BW has been done, and BW isn't likely to hurt SC2 much among the foreign scene. (Even though it's now trendy for people who never watched or played BW to go on long rants bout how much better BW was. Xenocider went on a big rant about how BW Mech was way better than SC2 mech, but admitted he didn't watch any BW because "I was a fetus"). I think BW has a lot of rebounding left to do, and it's only a matter of time before someone from the SC2 scene starts doing English casts for SSL, and then the two scenes end up co-existing in this hazy weird way where SC2 people kind of bandwagon on BW and BW people flip between irritation and "Well, it's exposure".

Maybe he just decided that he doesn't want to dedicate another year of his life to SC2?
Good luck to Jaehoon in whatever he does (please come to SOSPA, please come to SOSPA, please come to SOSPA) it can be tough finding good employment after playing video games you're whole life. Does anyone know if he's been through the military yet? Because I'm guessing now would be timely for that if he hasn't.

LOL.
What a joke, man. For every great BW pro that has retired I can name you a mediocre or just down right bad BW pro who has actually made a career worth having in SC2.
Moreover, a lot of the BW guys were reaching the end of their eSports careers one way or another. It's not the fault of SC2 every time one of these veterans retires, many times it's just the fault of their age and deteriorating motivation for playing video games to make a living. No reason to continue this "SC2 is killing eSports" BS.

From what I heard according to when Major left team 8 is that 4 players were cut from the team. Maybe its because of that. But that was before Jin air came looking around the corner.
As far as it goes for the retirement of alot of progamers that came from Broodwar. Yes the transition to StarCraft 2 made some people retire from it. BUT there has to be some realisation that Kespa wants to innovate and show progress through time. Yes it is sad to see the old broodwar players go BUT in my opinion it would be a bit lame to see all or most old bw players succeed as much as in starcraft 2 as they did in BroodWar.
Don't bring any of that this game is better that game is killing esports bs into my bw forums;; Sad day for Team 8; it seems most of their roster seems to have changed, I was hopeful for them since they just got a sponsor Can't wait to see the Jaehoon arbiters in SSL Hopefully he doesn't go to the army straight away

Funny. A few years ago, when proleague was exclusively BW and retirements were going on one after another, in every retirement thread, SC2 fans were cheering up, hoping for the player to switch to SC2 and shit. Now it's all backwards. Proleague is all SC2 and when someone from proleague retires, BW fans cheer up, hoping for the player to play in Sonic leagues and shit.
Only difference, I hated the former, been loving the latter though.
Sad to see him go! All of his BW Failhoon shenanigans made him so lovable, and I always rooted for him when he'd play. Hope he has success in whatever he does next!

I'm surprised. Without arbiters in SC2, he seemed to be one of the players who was doing better in SC2 compared to BW. Of course, he was nowhere near as lovable.

Don't embarrass yourself. Ignorance is never compensated by rudeness.
I know he's famous for cracking under the pressure in BW but in WoL here's a VOD of him making one of the most incredible PvZ hold's I've ever seen, cool as a cucumber.
At first I read that as Jaedong, and I was like WTF?! Then I saw that it was Jaehoon, and I was like WTF?!
You'd think Jin Air would try to keep one of the more popular players on the team, even if he wasnt doing as well. I dont mean they kicked him out, but they should have talked him into staying.

No, he was being an asshole. That's not how you ask a question. Go ask some strangers on the street "Hey what's the fucking time?" and see how they respond. Most will probably tell you to fuck off. Same principle on the internet.

Jaehoon, thank you for being the shining hope of HERO. The brilliance of your failures is echoed in the finesse that always took us by surprise, and your BW games were like a magnificent trampoline backflip in slow motion through the bullet stream of a semi-automatic rifle.
Then, I cheered for you and no matter what the outcome, I was amazed, and I hope wherever you go, you continue to deliver in extremes.
And here come the "oh no SC2 killed BW, E-sport, South Korea and my entire family all at once" comments... And the "Yes we are re-creating the old BW days" dreams. Anyway, sad news :'(

It's called age. Like real sports, esport favors really young talents because the older ones slowly get destroyed by health problems. Starcraft 2 is just an excuse. Kespa is filled with aging broodwar talents, but it's probably going to be very different in a few years.
Still sad to see a player doing rather well (his proleague run was good, helping his team a lot) go.
It's also important to note that a lot of those retiring players are protoss. It's the race with the largest changes in gameplay, by far (mainly because of warpgate and it's impact on balance). Harder time to adapt mean more old players giving up.

Nah what you commented has nothing to do with what lucumo has mention and besides that with his retirement I am not sure if sc2 is doing so well this days after all he seems to be one of those guys who transition to sc2 more successfully.Hoping to see him in action during SRT or Sospa starleague.

Eh sc2 fanboys making it almost personal if someone dont like your game, but hey fact is that in Korea BW has the biggest impact on public and progamers. Jaehoon is started his career because of the first game of the series, also you cant compare SC2 matches with BW ones, just watch the crowd. Is this not a downwfall?
P.S. and yes i prefer BW over SC2 and im angry not because im SC2 hater, but because these kids dedicated lifes to their dream and now they are forced to a different path.
