Nada (28) has entered basic training camp in Daegu to begin his mandatory military service. His military service should last 21 months.
Beginning his career in 2001, NaDa became one of the greatest, if not the greatest Brood War progamer of all-time. Over the course of nearly a decade, NaDa won a combined three MBCGame championships and three OnGameNet Starleague championships, a feat matched only by Flash.
Nada also played StarCraft II for a period later in his career, becoming a Code S regular and finished in the top four of Code S May '11 and MLG Raleigh.
NaDa an amazing player, and one of the most iconic symbols of Starcraft. After his service i would really like to see him return back to the scene, i think it needs him
damn nada is so young ? i wonder then why he not owned in sc2, seems he made to much money in sc1 and wasnt intrested that hard because damn that young HAD/HAS skill
Wow, makes me wish I played starcraft back in BW's prime. All these big names I don't really know about. Big news! Good luck to him and may he be forever a gamer. GL!
NaDa was so close to being the finalist for Code S May '11. If only InCa didn't completely cheese him out in the Ro4.
Considering his performance, the Genius Terran was still one of the most successful BW players to switch over to SC2. He practiced only 4 hours a day, concurrently went to university, and was able to remain in Code S for quite some time.

isn't 26 like the maximum delay you can get unless you fly to another country and disapear or something ?
had story of a friend there, who like, went back for xmas to seoul, and his passeport was confiscated lol and he was forced to enter army leaving his life in US ...
I still remember the first time we went to the not yet MBC studios, and that was the first time as well giyom and elky would play that 13y old kid they already knew about.
He demolished them so fucking hard Grrrr... joked about it for like 8 hours straight and how this new generation of korean players was something nobody would catch up with ever.

This was the first thing that went through my mind. As someone who who has spent time with the ROK Marines, those guys are hard core. That said I know Nada takes good care of his body. Good luck to him and I hope he doesn't get any injuries.

maybe he isn't doing the hardcore stuff? someone has to answer the phones right? I'm sure there's a diffrence between enlisted men and conscripts

It's true someone does have to answer the phones, but I'd like to think that Nada would qualify for a better military occupation than that. Still, 21 months goes by fast in the military, but it seems like an eternity in e-sports time.
Jesus. 21 month! That's 7 time as long as in my country! And it's even quite rare to have to go here. But I guess that would've been different if our neighbors were just as crazy as theirs. :s
Good luck Nada. Was hoping you would make a showing in bw SSL or something before you joined them but its fine.. Cheers to one of the best that touched the mouse and keyboard.
I wish NaDa a uneventful and easy service and much luck and success in whatever he wants to undertake after that. Come back to SC2 Tornado Terran, come back and reap the whirlwind one more time!
Good Luck NaDa! god I hope someone gets photos of him during basic training and contributes to the Nada's body thread. SOMEONE QUICK FROM TL, ENLIST IN MILITARY NOWWWW =x
Wasn't he suppose to be in the army when he retired from sc2? It was quiet for a while after that and then he randomly streamed BW for a while last summer and people said he was able to do that cuz he had some slack position in the army and had access to a computer. Then it was quiet again till the whole AZUBU saga.
We all recognize how physically he's prepared for this via the Nada's body thread. I'm sure he will find military service easy. Sadly we won't get see him play Proleague games under ACE. I miss bw.

is AZUBU even going to be around? I recall someone posting a link about their shady owner and there was some discussion about disbanding although I could be wrong lol.

No they didnt. Kaesong has been closed many times before and we just lived our lives happily as ever. Noone ever really gave a fuck about anything, it was just sensationalist media clickbaiting the fuck out of people.
Terrible stuff alright, hopefully the ones responsible for mandatory service will wake up someday. And putting someone in jail for refusing to fight, is taking away one's freedom to a degree that compares to slavery. It seems slavery is very much alive today, even in developed countries.

When you are bordering a country (NK) where a state of war still technically exists I think mandatory enlistment is the only way you can maintain a standing army big enough to be ready for whatever.

In other news, North Korea have offered their unilateral and unconditional surrender. Nada South Korean Leadership is pondering whether or not to let them off that easily.
