pretty sure that it requires a korean creditcard to buy the foreigner access. at least it did when i tried a while ago. because it's not so much foreigner access, as just for koreans living outside of korea

Here are a few guides for connecting to Afreeca which may be useful for non-korean IPs:

most thorough/up-to-date guide

Registration page explained:

buy at your own discretion, but it seems to work

right now I'm still translating a few things, I'll have a guide to registering and mobile afreeca soon

How to register an Afreeca account:

Step 1) Go to http://www.afreeca.com/ and click on register (as indicated by the red box)
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Step 2) Click on the right-most blue icon, which is the foreign registration
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Step 3) Fill out all the fields.
+ Show Spoiler +

Step 4) Check the box and finish up

A guide to Mobile Afreeca

First off, download the Afreeca app and also Korean Keyboard functionality.

When you launch Afreeca it should look like this
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Click on the icon indicated by the giant red circle, which will lead you to the main interface of Afreeca
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

To login, select the top right icon, translated to "More". It should bring you to this page
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Click on the log in icon, and logging in shouldn't take any explanation. The page should look like this
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

If you logged in successfully, you should see this page
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Nothing of use, so press the back button and go back to the "More" page. If you want, you can fiddle around with your settings, which I have translated (liberally)
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

If you want to change up how the broadcasting is organized, here is the translated options of that
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Anyways, after all that, you can go back to the main page to find the broadcasts you want to see. Here it is again for reference
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

The first way you can find broadcasts is by using the search function. Typing in 스타 (press the symbols ㅅㅡㅌㅏ in that order) will show you all the online Starcraft streams, or you could be more specific by typing in the broadcaster's ID (Sonic's is sogoodtt, Mong is cksgmldbs, etc etc .. will compile a list later). It should look like this
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

The other way is to select the Category icon, and then game. It'll show all the game broadcasts, so its less specific than the search method. Here's how the categories should look like
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Regardless of method, you should eventually stumble upon the broadcast you wish to see. If you're using your 3G or 4G connection, you should see this when you select the broadcast
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Just hit OK and the broadcast should start. And bam, you get to watch Afreeca on your phone. Should look sorta like this
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Now you notice how I circled one thing, and squared another. Those two are very important. The circled icon gives the broadcaster "추천", or "recommendation", which boosts the broadcaster's ranking. You can give these to each broadcaster once a day, and is possibly the best way to support them other than giving them balloons/stickers.

The other icon allows you to favorite/bookmark that broadcast. Makes it much easier finding that stream again, and to give 추천 on a regular basis

Now go back to the main page. Here it is again for reference
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Go to bookmarks. It should look like this
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Now each broadcast you bookmark is automatically set to notify you when they go online. Naturally, you dont want ALL of them to be set like that. So click the Notification Settings icon. Then you should see this.
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

You can turn the notification setting on/off for each broadcast. When you're done, hit the done icon.

And that's about it to mobile afreeca! Yea there's a shitload more other stuff, but that's all you need to know to watch SC :D and it would take up way too much time explaining lol

I'll add both of these guides to the OP sooner or later, in a much better format .. sorry for the ugliness of these guides, but I'm a little lazy lol

They seem to hate foreigners on there? I was put on mute because I spoke English, and people were telling me to "Shut my mouse ㅋㅋㅋ" (yes they said mouse)

So mean.

I got put on mute status, twice. For saying Hello. Oh well, I can still enjoy the streams.

edit:

Easiest way to watch streams on foreign IP is to download the Afreeca app.

I also got Afreeca to work for a little bit using a Korean socks5 proxy, but it was really, really laggy and terrible to use. The connection would drop a lot.

However, a more reliable way is to buy a Korean VPN (cost me $9, and gives me servers across the world, not just Korea), which I currently use. Runs perfectly fine, streams don't sit and constantly buffer like they did on my afreeca app and proxy.

Is the 9$ VPN a monthly rate or permanent? If latter, that's a good deal not just for afreeca.

Some time ago, a Korean friend of mine lent me his account but I still couldn't watch the streams. I guess I can watch with this app without account cool.

It's like speaking spanish on a forum or game lobby. Kind of annoying for everyone who isn't fluent in spanish.

Ok, big update to the OP. Added more details about how you can watch Afreeca, namely Bluestacks, more details about foreigner pass, and such. Also added a little section after that about how you can support Afreeca, even if you have no money.

I replaced the spoilered list of the September ranking with an image, now has more information and looks better. Some names are still untranslated, but oh well

An update to the upcoming 7th SonicTV Starleague, with an increase in Prize money! 4mil won to the first place winner now instead of 3mil

And at the bottom of the OP, I've added a guide of how to register for an Afreeca account, and how to use the Android Afreeca Mobile app (sorry iPhone users! Maybe someone w/ an iPhone can do it ): ). It should be MUCH easier to read than the text-vomit I wrote out earlier.

edit: oh goddammit, Sonic posted even more details about the Starleague and Proleague :l welp gonna take a break first before I go back to translating again

^Sorry to hear that, I personally have not tried it myself but I hear a number of ppl have had problems w/ it. On the other hand, some other ppl seem to get it working fine .... :/

anyways, BIG updates about both the upcoming SonicTV Starleague and Proleague!! Sonic has released a calender of the Starleague and the Ro32 group! The OP has been updated as such and .. I guess you don't really need to understand Korean to comprehend this yes? :D
[image loading]

As for Proleague, more solid details about it are starting to come out, one of the biggest things being Team rosters! I have taken the liberty of translating some of the team names, but a few I left untranslated because I wasn't sure of the proper translation.

I'm a little disappointed Sonic chose to do Winners-league style instead of Proleague style, but its still pretty damn awesome Each Proleague "season" is supposed to go for a month I believe, and the first place prize is 5mil won .. not bad at all!
