My recommendations for pre-playing:
1.) Find a friend or more online or otherwise to play with and talk to. Try searching for sGs on Teamliquid.
2.) Get hype. Watch things like Pimpest Plays, highlights of your favorite progamers, highlights of leagues, etc. to get your blood pumping. See NaDa kill Chojja with 1 vulture, Perfectman kill Iris with 1 reaver, Nony kill Idra with 1 probe.
For good games you can use Teamliquid search: "best games" in Brood War forum to find threads.

It's not that hard to get started, with some RTS experience at least. You'll be dropping to D- at first but not too long and you can at least maintain D for most of the time, within 100 or so games that should be doable, if you spend some time reading up on the game too.
Just maybe stick to one matchup if you care about your score. Play a straightforward but not too risky build.
Or, just stop caring about the points too much and try out whatever you like, in order to get familiar with the units and micro in a less rigid way, and to discover which race is your fav to play.

If you are going to play protoss I suggest you remap your caps lock key to the letter p. That's what I did and it has worked exquisitely! And if you want to get good, remember to use the hotkeys and ctrl groups and screen positions from the start. It's great to start on the right path. Don't forget to tell your workers to go to the mineral patches :D !

What are the pros and cons of going on fish over ICCUp?
Is it a pure korean server, or are there foregners playing there?
Were's the link to the download/install? the site is all in moonspeak and I have no idea where to find it

It's always worth it to play BW. I suggest playing BGH. It's a super fun casual mode that has not been (and probably will never be) replicated in SC2 due to the new mechanics.

I don't know what type of games you are playing, but when I play bgh it is cut-throat and frustrating. Trying to hold off a triple 9 pool is not for the faint of heart

Ever been 5pooled by the Z farthest away from you, 6pooled by the Z 2nd farthest, and then 9pooled by the Z Closest? And with some nice marine support from the single T in the 4v4. And your whole team is PPPT(You P). Yeah.... not fun. =_(

It appears that I'm actually late to the party, but yeah try it out for sure! It's pretty easy to get it on your comp, it should run without any hitches, and it'll be fun, I promise :D
Pretty steep learning curve though, gotta say.

Its always worth is but make ready to lose a lot at first. But you will get better and it will feel very satisfying.

It's only the best game ever. If i weren't overwhelmed with work and university I'd be very much playing it 8+ hours a day.
The community is awesome, op teamliquid is awesome, obsing games is awesome and 99% of the players are committed to it. I can honestly say it's the only game in which I've enjoyed having my ass handed to me because there's always something to learn.

I would direct you to stylish fpvods even for non terran players he pretty much cover everything that is fundamental in broodwar . Your build orders,macro,strategy and many more thank god for stylish where would I be without his guidance .

p.s Terran is the best race in broodwar you will never regret watching your tanks steam rolling your opponent and them rage quiting because they suicided tons of their units and yet did nothing .

BW is so worth playing. It will be the most difficult game you have ever played and you will be glad to have played it.
