The SC2 scene, despite all the money, comes off pretty amateur. From Blizzard's idiot marketing blitz to all the idiotic drama (in 10 years of BW i've never seen a pro player call other people gooks and niggers) and premiere events consistantly having game drops. | ||

They need to find a way to make Bnet connections much more reliable for major tournaments or give some kind of tournament special version that has Lan mode and maybe does away with all the extra stuff. There is a lot of stuff needed to be done, but many of these regions do not have the 10 years of BW infrastructure to build on, and the one place that does have it isn't even starting to use it really until next week. | ||

He is talking about Blizzard putting up posters in places they weren't supposed to in korea to make their game big that pissed off A LOT of people (for example, the people who owned the property they put it on) and it came off as being incredibly arrogant and is part of the reason SC2 didn't take off as much. If you don't even know about that you probably don't have the insight to argue about it. BW didn't always have 10 years of infrastructure lol. SC2 is basically inheriting its infrastructure (it has since release, but now it is taking away the most critical part of BW), and we'll have to see what that means if anything. SC2 will get a nice studio and real production values for awhile and then it'll be curious to see if KeSPA keeps SC2 as their flagship or subsidises it too if foreigners are spread too thin across too many different events / don't care about KeSPA tournaments enough to be profitable. | ||

I knew of Blizzards general Korea botch up's from a PR persepective, but I didn't think that translated to a global botch up in the grand scheme of things from a marketing stand point. I'd say in general things were handled well enough outside Korea. I'm not 100% sure what would have made that more professional. But again, if we are only talking about Korea's PR then yes I agree they botched it. I don't think I said BW always have 10 of of inftrastructure. I believe I said (or meant to convey), BW had 10 years in Korea to develop the professional manner in which business was conducted. I then said terrirtories outside Korea didn't have this established frame work and could only somewhat emulate (in a very general sense) what they say. Yes GOM was there to sort of hold the SC2 Korean scene together, but GOM really wasn't the primary orgnaization managing BW's infrastructure. With that, only now is KeSPA's experiences in the BW scene being applied to SC2. So SC2 hasn't inherited all that much overall. Yes it got the hype, the name and concepts like team houses or booths to play in, but even those are not 100% solidified outside Korea. And within Korea SC2 hasn't really had the big assests KeSPA has had due to the legal matters between Blizzard and KeSPA as well as the botched PR job. | ||
