That's true. The thing is that I really don't feel like committing myself to two games with same genre, feels rather inefficient. Love watching good players perform in the game I enjoy and though I guess having active, vibrant community is always a plus that alone doesn't justify a switch. Good luck though, I do hope transition to SC2 goes well for sake of the Brood War progamers.

Why are you attributing matters of preference to some sort of hostile intent to undermine SC2 ESPROTS?
There are completely legitimate reasons to prefer DOTA-style games over SC2 in terms of spectating value.

There should be a BFSL - Broodwar Forum Starleague, where all of us bitter BW fans play an OSL-format tournament for Golden Mice. Then there'd be a match-fixing scandal where Sayle would throw matches to get signed Stork memorabilia.

it makes me really sad. i joined tl for sc2 but bw is just... i love it.
but if the scenes are blending together it just feels wrong, hard to explain.
answers: i like both sc2 and bw, but I won't be following as actively. will stick around for community.

I dont know about spectating big tournaments but , dota 2 is a lot of fun, and whether you like to believe or not, has strategy and skill involved in it. It also has a really cool interface that is really fluid and easy to use. It's even fun just to jump in to a friends ladder game a spectate in the client, while waiting for a game. My main games have become brood war and dota 2 have become my main stay games nowadays.
Sc2 hasnt seen all that much use for a long time now.
Some people just cant take it that their game is not the big crowd puller and cant accept the fact that people like other games too., not the other way around.

The primary reason I liked Starcraft was the community around it and the competitive spirit. Even something as inherently idiotic as kicking a ball of animal skin could still be massively entertaining as long as it has a great competitive scene and a long tradition behind it. This is what makes any form of competition worth watching and this is why I liked BW so much.
While I like that SC2 has a lot of the same game mechanics, with the way Blizzard handles the game I don't see the same thing happening with it. I don't like many of the changes, but what I really hate are the community-destroying aspects of the way Blizzard is doing business--server segregation, lack of LAN, laughable support for customization, acting like a control freak with every tournament while making ridiculous demands. They are suffocating the community with their tight grip and it might be fine for a couple of years while the game is still fresh enough to attract players, but in the long run it would mean stagnation and eventually death to the scene.
This is also the reason why I'm mostly interested in Dota2 now and why I think it would be "better" esport in the very near future. I'm willing to swallow some of the game mechanics if in exchange for that I get a healthier scene with better potential for growth. With the way things are developing, I don't think you can honestly claim that SC2 is better esport than anything else.

You really should watch some pro LoL. It's already closing on being larger than SC2, at least if NA stream numbers and attendance at recent events are any indication.

I will stick around TL.net for as long as there are other competitions, like ISL, Gambit Cup, etc. being broadcast. Those are fun to watch too. But if the Brood War pros actually switch to SC2, I wish them good luck in their future endeavors, and we part ways.

As a starcraft fan i find LoL to be terrible as a spectator sport. Large amounts of passivity and then when something happens everything happens at the same time and for a "newb" like me it's impossible to actually make sense of whats happening. I think it thrives on its massive player base, and that's doing wonders for them so good on them. But i'm not going to be watching MOBA's over Starcraft or Quake Live (while it's still around...) anytime soon.

I never played broodwar - I started playing starcraft 2. Even when idk hows the gameplay of BW compared to SC2 i can believe that somehow it is "better game" but whats the point crying still about it ?
SC2 is quiet young game. Im pretty sure that orriginal Starcraft wasnt soo good at start. Even after BW release. For SC2 theres HOTS coming, Then legacy of void. Between it we are getting patches... (even when there are still people crying about patches)

SC became pretty good after BW came out, even without patches.
Why should an inferior game sit on the epsorts throne? We BW fans have the same issue with SC2 that you have with LoL.
Give LoL time, it's still young, I am pretty sure it will get far far better than now.

I stop reading after the bold part of the whole paragraph . If you didn't give broodwar a try you wouldn't know the aspects of the game and than you will be relying on hearsay rather than first hand experience about the game . I see words like "big potential" and "future " but it's nothing but empty promises . I can play the same game and say that LoL ,Dota 2 and Cs Go is a better game than starcraft 2 give it time to grow and the game will develop more further .

I enjoy watching NFL games, but just because I enjoy watching American football doesn't mean I enjoy watching rugby more than basketball.
Believe it or not. People actually enjoy watching Dota2.
