While doing ‘Twitter Q&A’ with Shark commentator, I realized the the influence of K-Pop. There is a member of Super Junior that is friendly with Shark commentator, his name is GyuHyun (Twit id: @GaemGyu) through him I asked him. ‘Super Junior’s Gyuhyun, what kind of person is Shark to you? Kekeke’. After this mention it was known to world fans and my twitter went crazy. Usually getting less then 10 mentions a day, the mention that day was like 500, and I got like 100 more followers.
So this interview with Shark caster had high expectations and on the other hand big worries as well. If the interview wasn’t entertaining, I was worried about the Super Junior fan’s reactions.
However, Shark answered expectations excellently. From his friendly stories with Suju’s Kyuhyun, personality, recent happenings and including meeting JYJ’s Kim Joon Soo, and indirectly talking about sasaeng-fans in general.

From February 1st, MBC Game changed to MBC Music and changed it’s contents and after resting about a month Shark is planning a trip to Europe. Seems he got the recommendation from Suju’s Kyuhyun. After the 2-3 week trip, he plans to enter the army service. He says he registered already, but he says there is no response yet.
Since starting his progamer lifestyle at 16, after his practice partner days he entered the 1st string yet did not shine brightly, Shark’s mutalisk grouping has forever left his mark in the road of Starcraft. Hopefully he will return to us as a commentator after his service, into the Twitter Q&A gogogo!

Shark, JYJ’s Kim Jun Su, Super Junior’s Gyuhyun are widely known to be friendly with you, I’m curious on how you guys became friends. Recently you left tweets you want to go a trip overseas, what’s the status on your trip and plans when you get there?
I’ll call him Gyuhyun-ee. (TN – Usually put –ee when you’re on pretty good terms or same age). Since we’re the same age. There is an friendly acquaintance with Coach Ha Tae Ki and Shin Hae Sung (assuming from guy group Shinhwa). The coach gave me a mission to, “Shin Hae Sung is appearing on an MBC program so teach him some Zerg”. At that time I tried wrapping it up around 2a.m. But with the thought that it helps promote MBC, we met on battle.net for more practice. While telling him many strategies and playing together, someone came in as an observer. Shin Hae Sung told me it was a junior he knew and saying that he played him a few times and couldn’t even beat him once, so asking me how to beat him. That person was Gyuhyun.
It was when Super Junior was promoting in China and Gyuhyun was in a car accident and aws resting up at the time. While enjoying Starcraft on his notebook in his Chinese dorms we made first contact. My ID was Seo Gyung Jong in English and he asked “Is that the real Seo Gyung Jong?” “It is him” was the response and while talking and playing more his understanding of Starcraft was very high. Also in that time I entered Starleague and went up against Park Jung Suk (
Reach) in the Ro16 and had great games – I lost but after that game people knew my name more – it was right after that. Gyuhyun said he saw those games. He showed me his replay asking ‘What’s the problem’ in a serious manner. We broke ways saying we’ll see each other later, but as soon as he came back to Korea Gyuhyun called me. He asked to have a cup of coffee with him, but we ended up talking about Starcraft and time flew buy which let us have some drinks later and quickly became friends.Gyuhyun once acted as a bridge for progamers to become friends. Gyuhyun’s main race is Protoss. When we were talking, I said once that Lee Jae Dong (
Jaedong) and Kim Taek Yong (Bisu) wasn’t friendly. Since I was a Zerg I had an acquaintance with Jaedong and since I was on a team with Bisu I could contact them both. So we called them both and made a chance for them to become friends. Me and Gyuhyun planned sort of a ‘Close-Friends Note’ meeting for them.(TN – That is a Korean show where celebrities who had some distance between them became close friends)
Same with Joonsoo-hyung we met on battlenet and became friends. He was friends with Shin Hae Sung-ssi too. While helping Shin Hae Sung-ssi practice Joonsoo-hyung came in as an obsverver. I asked curiously “Is that really Xiah Joonsoo”. He says yes. While observing we played some 3v3s afterwards. I usually take a break after 5-6 games, but Joonsoo-hyung had great stamina he played 10 games straight. While doing that he called. If you don’t have plans right now, let’s meet up. I went out to confirm if it was really Xiah Junsoo and it was him.
I thought it was fascinating, we saw a movie together and on the Han river we ate cup ramen and parted ways. I heard this afterwards, but while promoting Dong Bang Shin Ki it was his first time going out like that. After debut it was the first. Gyuhyun or Junsoo-hyung, we were connected through Starcraft.

What kind of existence is Suju’s Gyuhyun to Shark?
Shark – This year I’m 26 years old. Living up to now the people who has had big impacts in my life, of three people he’s one of them. He is someone that is unforgettable to me. I’ve lived as a progamer since I was 16. After I met Gyuhyun at 21. Starcraft Progamers don’t know the real world well. After becoming an adult, I drank a few times but no one taught me how properly, I learned through Gyuhyun.
2009 Winter, after losing against Park Myung Soo (
YellOw[ArnC] note this is not Hong Jin Ho, so we usually call him YarnC or Fake Yellow) on ‘Match Point’, honestly I decided to retire as a progamer and was resting at my house. I was preparing then to change into a commentator. It was a stressful and confusing time, and cut off contact from progamer and my company. At that time, Gyuhyun took his friends with him and came to my hometown to cheer me on. To have friends like that, I was so thankful. I think I trusted him more as a friend afterwards.Also when Gyuhyun has good news, he contacts me separately too. Going inside the program ‘Radio Star’, preparing new albums he tells me first. When he doesn’t have overseas promotion, we usually meet once or twice am onth. I’ve met many celebrities, but I think he’s one of the few real genuine persons.

Shark – There is a common saying MBC Game station staff says. That there is a mysterious allure that girls see in me. I don’t really know what it is. Truthfully I don’t talk with many girls. But other points are, while asking one thing I ask confidently. Maybe the girls like that point highly. This question is from Han Seung Yeob-sunbae. Honestly he has more popularity than I do. While broadcasting, I heard he got asked out by female celebrities. I want to reverse this question on him. Sunbae, how do you manage your connections? (laugh)

For Shark, how are Suju’s Gyuhyun and JYJ’s Kim Jun Soo? Points to model after?
Shark – Gyuhyun and Junsoo-hyung are top stars, besides that when meeting people they share a common point to make them comfortable. They’re really not like celebrities. If you think of celebrities, and if they come on TV often they may have high self-important airs kind of image. Of course there are less people like that. Both guys really treated me with honesty. When progamer teammates receive vacation time, if these two guys can be contacted we meet and accompany each other. Whoever these two meet, they make them comfortable and ask first. Even more they treat them like people they’ve known a long time.
I want to learn that from them. They have reached the highest point but managing people comfortably and approaching them, this kind of treating people. If I separate one from the other Joonsu-hyung when he starts something he sees it through till the end. Also he has great concentration. Activities that Junsu-hyung likes are football, bowling, badminton and gaming. His skills are good enough to become a pro. Other than Starcraft, he likes to play Sudden Attack and is very good at it. That kind of concentration to work on something to a point, I want that quality from him.
Gyuhyun has strong interests in people. If he sees someone outside his life pattern, he becomes curious about them. Because he can make people comfortable, he can make people he meets for the first time feel comfortable and relaxed. Also if you become friends with him, he’ll take care of you until the end. Breaking down his busy schedule to meet people like that, I think that is impressive.

Do you have any intention to go on ‘Radio Star’?
(Radio Star is a MBC Variety Program where they interview stars, doing pretty good in ratings recently)
Shark – I think that question doesn’t make sense. I would be proud going on, but will they contact me? If I do get the chance to go on, I have confidence to be really talkative with Gyuhyun.
In the beginning of the recordings for ‘Radio Star’, he used to call me the day before. That he’s really nervous. After the recording he calls me again. That he was really bad and is embarrassed. Even as I monitor the show, pros are really pros. Seems like he’s melding into his character well, so he doesn’t seem worried anymore. He’s emceeing comfortably now.

Are you still in contact with SS501’s Hyungjoon?
Shark – Not at all. Different from Kyuhyun and Junsu-hyung, with Hyungjoon-ssi we don’t have good relations. While we may have looked friendly on broadcasts, we could not become friends. What you saw on broadcasts was scripted and I acted based on it. I’m saying it now, but it’s 100% setup. After the recording, I never contacted him once. I think he’s a hard character to become friends with.

It’s known you are friendly with JYJ. There are lots of talks about sasaeng-fans (stalker fans). What do you think about it, and did you get affected by it?
Shark – I don’t think it is something I should discuss about. I’ll only say what I feel about it. Junsu-hyung doesn’t drink at all, and even touch smoking. Other than exercising and gaming, he relieves stress while drinking tea at a coffee shop and talking. I went to some coffee shops with him too, and if we go several taxis follow us around. The windows are tinted so we don’t know who is following. If we’re talking, even I can feel them leaning their ears over. If we go somewhere else they keep following. Since our every move was being watched, it became a situation where I could not even talk comfortably. While I wanted to get rid of stress, I came back with even more. Junsu-hyung must be really struggling.

Did you tell Gyuhyun you’re entering the service? What did he say?
Shark – Before I enter he says we have to meet often. I’ll be entering the service slightly faster, and he has to go as well. He said that before entering the army to not think of it as a farewell party, just that I’ll take a slightly long vacation from my life. Personally after finishing my basic training and I become a private, that he’ll be the first person to visit me.

Shark – I feel good. Especially for K. Will I’ve never met him openly but through an acquaintance I know him. During a radio program by Sweet Sorrow (4 Persons K-Ballad group) K Will was a guest and by chance I was listening to it. Sweet Sorrow said “There are lots of posts saying you look like progamer Shark” was the first phrase and K Will said “I read that often on the internet” and “I want to meet him once”. Soon afterwards an acquaintance of mine called me. The call was about K Will, and that he would like to see me once. I responded that I would like to meet him once but we have not met yet. K Will’s vocal talents are within the top ten of Korea in my opinion.
That kind of person even asking me to meet is an honor for me; I really do want to meet him. I really love and respect people with a good voice. I’m really envious.

‘Shut Up and Flower Boy Band’, in that drama between the Shark commentator and and yourself, who is more handsome?
Shark – There is a killer story for this. I’m close friends with the writer noona of ‘Shut up and Flower Boy Band’. She wrote ‘Hyungjoon Becomes a Progamer’ and is the main writer for ‘Shut up and Flower Boy Band’. Not long ago, I got a call from her. “I’m writing a drama and I’m putting the name Seo Kyung Jong in the drama. If the drama comes out, it’ll be your name that will become a main-level character, so I’m telling you beforehand”. For me I’m so thankful and thought it was an honor and I waited for the drama to broadcast it really came out. In ‘Shut Up and Flower Boy Band’ I got a cameo request but I think my acting skills aren’t up for it so I refused. Through the show ‘Hyungjoon Becomes a Progamer’ to have a writer noona, it became such a good situation for me.
I heard that the drama is getting super popular. Through that if you search in portal sites ‘Seo Kyung Jong’ the drama’s character photo comes out. I felt slightly jealous but since it’s from someone I know that made the character from me, as a viewer I’m watching everything.

When did you have your first kiss?
Shark – (Hesitantly) I had one at 19 (Korean age you start at 1, so 18). Honestly way back I had an interview with a similar question but I forgot what I said. Since I became a progamer at 16 (15), while doing it by chance I had a chance to have a relationship, and I believe I had my first kiss with that person. I remember my first love but my first kiss is pretty hazy. Please don’t misunderstand things. Thinking in a different direction is also off limits. (laugh)

Besides Starcraft, are you good at any other games?
Shark – I think I put effort into all games I touched. I’ve been a progamer for around 8 years; looking back I don’t think I had talents or gifts. Just passion and perseverance, and with patience I was a player for 8 years. For Starcraft, I wanted to be a progamer so much, like a matter of life and death but my record wasn’t the greatest.
Atter becoming a broadcaster I played ‘Company of Heroes Online’. It was one of the games to be raised as another e-Sports league so I prepared well and made the game knowledge mine.
For personal interests, the games I’m enjoying are Sudden Attack (Korean FPS) and Winning Eleven (Japanese Football Game). Both games are due to Junsu-Hyung introducing them toe me. When we meet each other, in a PC Room we divide into teams and play. When we play Starcraft I become first pick, but my Sudden Attacks skills are hopeless I get picked the latest. You know. You really don’t want to pick but have to. Easily said, it’s sliced radish. So-called hole. When we play Sudden Attack, I become the hole. If I can’t shoot Junsu-hyung well, I hear lots of flak for that. While playing like that, my competitive spirit grew and I raised my skills in Sudden Attack, so you can’t say I’m not good at it anymore.

If you were reborn, what job would you choose?
Do you have a new job you want to attempt?
Shark – Through studying to make something come true, I don’t think of rash things like that. Doctor, lawyer, judge etc even if I become reborn again I won’t be able to do it. I know myself well. Even if I’m reborn, studying is not an area for me. I don’t want to become pro athlete either. Since as a progamer I’ve lived the dorm life enough, so I don’t want to do that again.

Come to think of it I want to work as an announcer or caster like kind of broadcasting job again. Especially an announcer sounds great. From a standpoint of someone who’s experienced broadcasting, I want to become an announcer like work with a character to absorb a variety of programming types. If it’s News, MC, Variety, to do all those kinds of broadcaster I think that’s what an announcer is. I want to learn about it. I want to try to become one by learning it systematically. Personally I hope to be reborn with a nice voice.

Are a progamer’s skills innate? Is it effort?
Shark – I think I rose to that spot through effort. Lee Jae Dong (
Jaedong) or Kim Taek Yong (Bisu), Lee Young Ho (Flash), Song Byung Goo (Stork) like them I didn’t leave records behind to be left in the road of BW. However when I was a progamer, to put the records up for me I tried my absolute best.Through broadcasts the appearance I give off can be frivolous and enjoying life, a light air image was made but up till 2008 I was a gamer that practiced to the latest. AS I’ve been a progamer for about 8 years I felt that, aptitude and talents are separate. If those kinds of players with aptitude put effort into it, I rise to take the highest place. In the MBC Game days think of
Bisu, you will definitely understand. When he first entered the team his sense was great. If you told him one thing, he would pull it off right away. Plus he was so serious; he practiced till the latest as well. Because he did that his good records came.While seeing those kinds of players I felt a lot of frustration. Why don’t I have those kinds of talents? Truthfully to go through an individual league preliminaries and up to the opening ceremony was my dream. I always fell short at the doorstep. Even though I put my soul into my gaming, and reached up to the Ro16 and went up to a degree. Thinking about it now ‘I should have tried harder’ come to mind as I still regret it a little bit.

To Shark, what does MBC Game Hero mean to you? Also can you tell us an episode of your player days?
Shark - MBC Game Hero is... If I started another progamer life from the beginning, I would not hesitate picking MBC Hero again, I loved my time there. My teammates were awesome. The players on this team were nice and bright. In other terms, there was almost no one that drank alcohol or smoked.
While living in society, you tend to have get-togethers after work and there are times where you’re encouraged to drink, but this team is not like that. Even the younger players, who rack up their years, are never dragged into drinking or smoking. Park Sung Joon (
July) and I were around the most seniors, since we did not drink or smoke when juniors come in we became used to being talkative and enjoying chicken.Also if anyone was a part of our team, we have a principle to keep in contact with everyone. In the past when players left there were instances where we couldn’t contact them anymore, after taking on the name MBC Game Hero we try to take care of everyone. Even now Yum Bo Sung (
Sea), Kim Dong Hyun (Saint), Kim Jae Hoon (Jaehoon), Park Soo Bum (Tyson), Go Seok Hyun (HyuN), and Min Chan Ki (RuBy) we are still contacting each other. We’ll continue this into the future.Episode? There are so many, I’ll tell you one from my practice partner days. Yesterday Sea had a media interview and it’s similar to like that one. MBC Game’s predecessors in the POS (Past gaming team name) days Sea and I, Saint only came to practice on weekends. Because we were students. After finishing practice on Sunday we go home but we always stop by KFC and eat burgers and cola. It was when we didn’t have a main sponsor so we emptied our pockets to barely buy our three people’s worth of burgers and drinks. Our seniors, coaching staff we had some discussions on what our goal will be and we cultivated our dream as a progamer. That time we really loved the game, only our passion for it kept us going.
I’ll say just one more. Since I’ve been on MBC Game for so long I can tell you episodes for a day and a half, but since the time is limited I’ll only say another one. Let’s talk about the player that transferred to Woongjin and is called the ‘Jaetler’ (Lee ‘Jae’ Ho + Hi’tler’, strict maybe? Hehe) for his leadership, let’s talk about
Light[aLive]. Light entered a bit later than most players. Going to school in 7 in the morning, as soon as school ended he entered practiced, he was a practice bug (A lot of practice). Also he was the team maknae (youngest) so dishes, cleaning, washing clothes he did all the dirty work. When we ate first and when Light came back from school late and was eating but something felt wrong. Just as I thought I went down to our dining room and Light was crying while eating. He said the maknae life was so difiicult. The teammates all came down and tried to comfort Light as best they could. Right now showing the best leadership, there was once a time where Light was crying eating meals alone.

It’s known you’re close to entering the service. Did any of your seniors give you advice on army life?
Shark – Rather than advice, there is more teasing people. Lim Sung Jin (
koala), Jung Young Chul (Thezerg), Kang Goo Yul (910), and RuBy and others are either discharged or close to being discharged. Then those players entered the army I felt sad but now those guys are saying that when I enter the army “Better be willing to die”. I have to think about the other person’s perspective more.Q. @dae_mouse
Is it true you’re entering in April?
Shark – It’s not definite yet. After hearing about the closing of MBC Game I thought of what time to enter. I have registered. I passed the driving test for a vehicle driver. I’m predicting that I’ll enter around either around April through May. I hear that a lot of people are registering around that time.

How have you been recently, and what are your future plans?

Shark – I’ve been a progamer since the 3rd year of Middle School I’ve lived a busy life and after my retirement, other than my studying to be a caster I had no time to rest. Recently MBC closed its doors for the first time in 10 years I’ve rested comfortably for a month. Football, bowling, and health centers are mostly what I did and recently like the picture I put up on twitter, I go hiking and rest.

I planned to go a trip overseas, and now I’m preparing for it right now. A year ago Gyuhyun said he did a backpack trip alone to Europe. He said he learned a lot during his trip so I’m thinking of following his course. In 2010
Saint, Sea, and Kim Tae Hoon (Peace) went to Japan together and they said it was so fun they recommended going on a trip together also but my schedule couldn’t match. So I’m planning to go on a backpack trip alone.So this trip will be the best, I bought a thick book and reading it now. Right now I just have to prepare my plane tickets. I’m planning to leave around the 15th-20th for Europe.

What are your plans after your service? I loved your casting; do you plan to come back as a commentator?
Shark – A commentator is job I really wanted to do during my progamer days. MBC Game Hero player days, Han Seung Yeob (
Yooi) was debuting as a commentator. There was a program called ‘Coach ambassadors’ (parody of a historical drama: 태왕사신기) at that time our coach, Park Yong Woon (current SKT Coach) coach was going to play so I went to support them. It was a live broadcast, the commentator was so good I thought it was Kim Dong Jun ([n2]Rookie currently casting LoL on OGN) caster. Soon I found out it was Yooi commentator's broadcast debut.At that point I felt something. That I wanted to be in that place as well. Afterwards choosing to retire from progaming I went and searched for Kim Chul Min caster (Former MBC Caster). After telling him I wanted to do broadcasting, and I got lots of help from him after that. Trying to co-cast with him, and I got recommendations on broadcasting academies and focused on studying.
After debuting as an MBC commentator the MBC family really helped me out a lot, but I’m sad I couldn’t help save them. Honestly I did good calm casting but I was bad at creating a pumped up atmosphere. Especially when introducing the players you have to speak at the top of your lungs, I was not good so often I had voice cracks and even if I made consecutive mistakes, they cut me some slack.
I want to revive that memory. The broadcasting station may have disappeared but I still want to be a commentator. If another place appears, I want to challenge it again.

What do you want to do before you enlist?
Shark – A trip. Take care of friends I neglected, and talk a lot with people around me. I want to meet people I couldn’t meet because of my busy life; I want to see them again.

Shark – Like I explained before, I still want to commentate. If another game broadcasting company appears, of course I would like to try.

I think I’ve seen you on OGN’s ‘The Tester’, why don’t you come on anymore?
Shark – A friendly script writer asked me to come on for 1-2 episodes, so that’s why. In a situation where I’ve applied for service, I can’t promise to appear in all episodes because that would be a lie. So I told them that I would come on one episode. It’s a unique game information program, even in one recording I could learn a lot of things.

After 10 years, what would Shark commentator look like?
Shark – Ah it’s Lim Soo Ra coach-nim. It’s a pleasure. 10 years after I’ll be 36. Maybe, I should have married? Have children? And probably found a good place for a job. When I’m working to do my best, and for my family to do what’s best is probably what I’ll be like. I don’t have an attachment to earning lots of money. Living a plain life, and I want to create a happy family.

You had a choice of entering Air Force ACE, what’s the reasoning behind choosing the road of a commentator?
Shark – I really wanted to be a commentator. I was never confident during broadcast, but I’ve spent around 10 years with this game and I wanted to spread the knowledge on a game I’ve studied as a professional. At one time
RuBy and I planned to enter ACE together. But if I entered ACE I thought I would only hinder the team. Probably I wouldn’t have gained any entries and my skills would be falter and probably ending up just discharging without an impact. So only Ruby applied. Soon after, thinking about a standpoint of someone entering the service ‘surplus’ even if I leave with that name I thought it would have been a good idea, however I put the time I spent as a caster to everyone to a higher meaning.![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Wu2My.jpg)

Any thoughts of ever returning to the progamer life again? Even if it’s not Starcraft, maybe Starcraft 2 or League of Legends, any thoughts of trying there?
Shark – In the e-Sports market there are many occupations. In the midst of that I experienced being a progamer and a commentator. After returning from the army, if conditions are still good I’m still interested in being a progamer in a different game. I didn’t shine in Starcraft, just like Lim Jae Duk (
NesTea) who successfully transferred to Stacraft 2, I will keep this possibility open.Q. @AReum1106, @0404thesilver
Seems like you visited a few mountains, do you go there often?
Shark – In my progamer days, if it’s not a pro team workshop there is no reason to go to a mountain. I hate hiking. The amount of hatred I store for hiking is, I only go if I HAVE to go up planned by our team. While straggling as the last person, I act like I’m resting and send my teammates up, and then I come down. So that’s probably why I’m not in any of the group pictures on the top of the mountain.
This time I came back from Soorak-mountain and I did the full course. I went with Gyuhyun-ee and a friend named Kim Eun Ho. You probably know Gyuhyun by now, Kim Eun Ho is a friend that likes boxing and now is in his senior year of college. I have to enter the service soon. Because it’s the climb before entering, I completed it together. The feeling you reach the summit is really good. I think people probably climb because of the taste of reaching it.
After climbing and taking a group picture, Gyuhyun-ee uploaded it on his twitter as ‘Soorak-mountain summit’. Slowly we were coming down and then Super Junior fans were even climbing the mountain. About 1/3rd of the way up, we met the fans. I asked them how they found us and they said they saw the twitter picture and urgently followed up. It would have been surprising see them in the parking lot, but just 30 minutes afterwards seeing those fans climb 1/3rd of the way up, they were really impressive.

Among the commentators who do you think is the most handsome? If there was a role model caster for you?
Shark – The best looking and role models overlap for me. Han Seung Yeob and Kim Jung Min (
TheMarine) are both the best in their casting abilities and looks. Especially Han Seung Yeob sunbae it is similar situation where as a progamer could not shine but as a caster, I promised to meet him at the top.Han Seung Yeob commentator lately is trying to transfer into the military; I meet him often on weekends to play football. He says he’s very worried. Because there aren’t many places to go into.

What does Shark look in a girl?
Shark – While doing her own work and someone who can dedicate to a family life is what I look for. I hope she won’t be beautiful. Since I’m a guy, I have lots of jealousy. If she gets the attention of any other guys, I think I’ll be extremely jealous. Someone who supports a dual income household, while getting recognized in her own field and someone who can raise a child well, whenever I ask them out. But I’m not looking for a wonder woman. Someone like this, you’re out there right?

How long does progamers exercise? How long are their days off? Do you get a break on Sundays?
Shark – The time to exercise is provided. Normally, I do some muscle training at a fitness center. There are times where we have football matches with other teams. The most important exercise to a progamer I think is stretching. It’s not an intense exercise, but if you slack off on stretching you can hurt your wrist, arm, and waist. As I regularly visit the fitness center for stretching, my wrist and my waist seemed to get better.
Resting days are usually after match days. If the games are close there is no break, but if there is one game a week, after that match the next day we rest. At that time you really have to rest. If you drink too much or if you sleep all day, your rhythm breaks and then end up struggling for a week.
Recently for me I see past MBC Game Heroes on Team 8 lately. On their resting days we drink a cup of coffee, go watch a movie, and after dinner we part ways.

How is the other MBC Game Hero players doing that are not active progamers? After their service, do they plan to still be involved in e-Sports?
Shark – Ruby is preparing to become a celebrity. He got a call from a very competitive company. He is preparing to become an actor. Park Ji Ho (
Pusan) coach is doing some streaming on Afreeca (Korean online streaming site). I saw him a few times, but he seems to do a breaking down style broadcast. I don’t know what other players may think, but that is Park-coach’s actual character. Don’t be afraid of that. Jung Young Chul (Thezerg) is close to his discharge, and Kang Goo Yul (910) finished and he got a job. I hear Moon Jun Hee (Junitoss) finished recently as well.Q. @jyjsongforme.
If you look back on your progaming days, how was it? A word of advice for people dreaming to become a progamer?
Shark – If a progamer puts out a good record, you’re guaranteed for life. If you become a famous player, you can become a caster as well –of course I’m excluded from this- inside a team you can grow into a coach. But on the other hand it can also be poison. If you think you have a talent for gaming, I believe you have to at least study hard in high school and at least enter college. Afterwards you can attempt becoming a progamer for 3-4 years like your life depended on it, if you succeed you are walking on a steady and broad path but even if you couldn’t you have a backup plan in learning, so I think that’s the best road for a life. Looking back at myself starting progaming at 16, some regretful things are not learning properly. Through wits, and coach I have followed but having a chance at a proper education, wouldn’t that be the best plan if you failed?

What genre of movies do you enjoy? What movies have you seen recently?
Shark – A bit ago I saw ‘Real Steel’. It was really moving. If felt like watching a fighting game, and left a story of a father and a son. Having a solid moving story with good visuals, I recommend those kinds of movies.
I like our movies as well. I saw ‘Howling’. Song Kang Ho, Shin Ha Kyun kinds of excellent actors I recommend as well. It gives off a vibe of high expecations.

You are probably concered a lot with past MBC Game players on Team 8. Anything you would like to say to them?
Shark – Like I mentioned earlier, I meet them often on rest days. We talk a lot and discuss what happened inside the games a lot. Recently I’m not a commentator so I’m in a viewer’s standpoint watching proleague. I see Team 8’s games from start to finish. While watching the broadcasts I see them I can sort of feel what they are talking about.
Sea, Jaehoon, Tyson, Ha Jae Sang (Sang), and Kim Min Gyu (Dream.t)check) all do well in the future. I think Sea has to become a model for them. When I played together with Sea, he was really good on a godlike level. In the first season of Proleague he had a poor performance, but I trust he’ll come back alive soon.Q. @drave13.
What is Shark’s current Starcraft skill? If you played Starcraft 2 or League of Legends, how good are you?
Shark – Now I’m embarrassed talking about my skills. I do play often but can think of an amateur that enjoys playing. Still it’s close to my skills at the time of my retirement. I can’t follow recent trends and my reaction time is a bit slower but I still won’t lose to amateurs.
I tried Starcrat 2 to an extent. When
HyuN was dropped from the draft, when he was preparing his transition into SC2, we lived together in the same house. So we both came up with strategies.Since he’s a player with good sense, he adjusted fast and even passed the preliminaries. I haven’t played much LOL. I’m just watching through TV and learning. Before I enter the service I have many things to do, so I’m distancing myself from LOL at the moment.

How do you increase your people connections? (Get to know more people) If you had the copyright to mutalisk grouping, how much doyou think it would be?
Shark – When meeting people I don’t have the intention of increase connections that is the answer. From the celebrities I’ve met there are people who it’s hard to become friends with. Just like Hyungjoon-ssi. If the people involved had similar interests it would be easier to become friendly but instead of making articifial relationships, through talking and identifying with each other and when minor things happen contacting immediately into compliments, advice, cheering doing that, then you can become friends. As that happens you can naturally find out about your friend’s friends and it becomes a social connection. I think the most important thing is speaking with an open mind with the person.

Shark – It’s hard to say talk about because the company I worked at closed its doors, but I pick the past Zerg player Park Tae Min (GoRush). He also played Zerg and his style is very meticulous. Really even one probe, one drone, one scv he knows all the ways the stragety can change into. It seems like he carried on his style from his progaming days, watching that I think he’s doing a good job.
