I uploaded it on the tracker, will host it for some time.
You cant connect with it to bnet. However I think it could be run on a private server. It would need a BNETd server though, because PVPGN doesnt support pre 1.08 sc versions. Also BNETd would have to allow "broken" apllications, because beta is probably not supported. As for the whole connecting, I figured out that perhaps the HOSTs file could be modified so exodus.battle.net would be redirected to ourserver.ip.com If you want to search through the mpqs you can try, I have a listfile, not sure if it is accurate.
Does anyone know how to modify the HOSTs file? Id try to connect to a private server from one reg file I have, which probably allows broken applications
PS please DONT make news about it on wgt/pgt/gg.net/any other forum etc

i'm getting this, someone figure out a way to make a server ^_^
|
It should be possible (unless the bnet protocol has changed) to go about modifying one of the pvpgn files to make it work with this, just like you would to make it work with a new patch. Although I'm not sure about that, so don't count on me The hosts file modification would be pretty easy, assuming we had a server ready to use.

8882 I hope you realize that you might have taken a big risk?

I don't think you know anything about blizzard policies and how they might react to such thing. Neither do I though, that's why I said "might have" :\

hrmm, what do I do with the two files now?

Companies spend money on lawyers if they're losing money or could potentially lose money
Also Blizzard has great respect for the BW community, i'd say it's the only reason they keep patching this game, otherwise they'd only focus on future projects and newer games, like WC3.
edit: so let's talk less about legal shit and more about how we're going to make a server with this thing!
|
uh I thought it's ok since it requires a cd-key to play :o delete the thread please
|
They dont have respect for it. They think they can make more money out of us.

Wow this is so fucking cool! Will DL right away thanks. How did you aquire this iso anyways?
|
the person who gave it to me was a beta tester, he is dying on cancer, so he allowed me to publish it (I think the beta tester's will lose their souls for publishing the beta)
many people have the beta, you can download it easily if you ask them, but most of them say no
also you need the patches (and there are people who have them) otherwise the game "crashes 5times per hour" (that's what I heard from some people who have the beta)
I asked about the beta once on dt's website, but the "leet haxx0rs" decided to make another "maphuck with crashhack v5.0" (and banned me)
I dont know if I should say who gave me the iso, so I will not at this moment

just dont want to reinstall sc I'm wondering the same, but just to be safe I'll be backing up both my registry settings for SC and the SC directory
|
this sucks =/
thought i would at least be able to play single player...
this is only for battle.net which doesnt work

"also you need the patches (and there are people who have them) otherwise the game "crashes 5times per hour" (that's what I heard from some people who have the beta)"
could a link possibly be given? or the patches torrented up on the tracker?
|
Is this the pre-release version that was once dubbed "Orcs in Space", with the ugly zerg units, etc?
|
no it's something like starcraft 1.00, without single player, map editor, or working multiplayer. you can find posts of people who tried to play it on few forums and most of them said that the game crashed all the time if you managed to run a server

I find it pretty amusing that one of the patches adds the map editor and guess what, the person who has the patch and doesnt want to publish it.. creates map editing stuff. he is also said to have brood war beta cd, but never bothered to check what the "red-blue" archons were

oh thats it? ahh ight. what about a patch or anything, none is needed?
|
i can install it alongside SCfinal and i used alcohol120% to mount it. Now I just need a server I can play it on
|

sounds easier to just use some kind of vlan software to create a virtual network, then you can just play ipx games over it. There is a really good free software to do this, i just dont remember what its called :/ Theres also zone.net or whatever it is, that lets you play ipx games online.

|
it doesnt have ipx support..
|
seeding now, uploading at 16 k/s (that's what i keep it maxed at)
|
|
so did anyone find a server where it work yet?
|
What program works best to burn this Image with I can't get it to work with nero
|
|
It will only work on hamachi if sc-beta can be played via LAN. Hamachi has IPX support so try IPX. UDP didn't get introduced until later patches so its your only hope.

Really? This wasn't worth bumping the thread. There is no StarCraft: BW Beta ISO. Just full version of StarCraft: BW.
