[SK Planet] STX's Dear "Glad I Chose to Become a Progamer"![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/rotinegg/20120229_9c8508c15bc03788e45.jpg)
STX's Dear did it. He put a stop to Flash's seemingly unstoppable winning streak. Due to the unexpected-ness of the ordeal, Dear enjoyed a brief moment of fame, climbing to the top of the most-searched-term chart of the internet. February 29th has become a day that lives on in his memory.
Dear thanked Classic and Size for helping him whole-heartedly when preparing builds to face Flash. Confidence shone through Dear's words as he said he wants to become an 'auto-win' card.
Q How does it feel to have derailed the unstoppable god-god-express, aka the holy rape train*? A I beat Flash who had never lost this season. I want to scream, that's how good I feel right now (laughs).
Q He was the one that stopped your winning streak last time you met. A The fact that I lost so easily without being able to do anything made it that much more regrettable. I guess the manner in which I lost motivated me to beat him easily today (laughs).
Q Let's be honest: nobody expected you to win. A My confidence was low due to the manner in which I lost my last encounter with him. The build I prepared for today's game didn't net me a lot of wins in practice either. However, I was carrying some momentum in my recent PvT's so I didn't feel like it was impossible to win.
Q Word on the street is that you always tell your teammates "If anybody on this team could beat Flash, it'd be me." A I always wanted to meet him. I prepared a lot of builds, and wanted to try them out against him.
Q It felt like you put in a lot of thought and analysis into the build. A Today's build is centered around getting fast speed for shuttles. If Flash had scanned it, it would have been stopped easily, but I noticed he has a habit of scanning the opponent's natural entrance when his vultures pop. So I hid the support bay in my natural, and Flash didn't see it so he fell to my harass.
Q Who helped you win today. A Classic and Size. Even when I kept bugging them for practice games to perfect this build, they didn't complain, so I am thankful, and I also want to say thank you to our coach that devised this build.
Q One step closer to rookie of the year. A You only have one shot to win rookie of the year, so I want to win it (laughs). I am competing with sHy for the award; I hope he puts up a good fight until I win it in the end (laughs).
Q Your name topped the charts of the most-searched-keyword. Lots of attention. A I was startled by the cheering when I stepped out of the booth. I'm still dazed.
Q Plans from hereon? A Since the rookie of the year award is at stake, our head coach has been giving me extra attention. I want to pay him back for believing in me by crushing everybody in my path.
Q Any last words? A After I won today I thought, 'I'm glad I chose to become a progamer.' I will watch my match against Flash when I get home. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight (laughs). I will continue to play hard so that eventually I will become an 'auto-win' card for our team.

+ Show Spoiler [Disclaimer] +* If you're seriously wondering whether the interviewer actually said the words "unstoppable God express" and "holy rape train," you should take a moment to reassess your life, your moral fiber, your ideals, and your character. Somewhere in that arid desert of yours, look for this small, forgotten oasis called 'common sense,' and abandon the search only when you have doused yourself thoroughly with its essence. The discovery may be more elusive for some than others, but I have faith in ye, forlorn journeymen. Upon returning, you will open your eyes to the small wonders of your everyday-life, and your time on this planet will no longer seem like a monotonous drone, a fleeting moment caught in between before and after-life, a pit stop in your journey through the continuum of time, knowledge and space. After having lived a long and prosperous life full of love and joy, you will remember this moment of enlightenment and have me to thank.

What a boss! The way he completely demolished him... I'm actually sad that Flash's streak is over but what a way to end it.

Well the one thing I learned during these years of BW, that noone is invincible.
|
Hehe Dear sounds so happy. I can only imagine his feeling after seeing the gg from flash.
|
It's amazing how happy a progamer becomes after taking a single game off God.
|
awesome. dear is now another rookie i shall keep my eyes even closer too
|
i keep asking myself why on earth flash + Show Spoiler +cancelled those 2 turrets? Not that Dear couldn't have still ran the shuttle through and got those reaver shots off, but still..

Regardless of rather you like Flash or his play personally, we should be thankful that he is there to promote a high level of competition and excitement to where something as simple as taking a game off him can help launch people's carriers in esports.

What a way for Flash to lose such a long winstreak

flash is a kingmaker, beat him once and you'll be recognized as a high caliber player even if your level of play hasn't changed. Hell action wasn't recognized as anything but pretty bad until he almost beat flash, this is gonna be really good for dear's level of confidence.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So the only reason he won was because he missed the scans? Not exactly 'demolished'..
|
That is the greatest translator note/disclaimer that I have ever read. My mind is certainly enlightened.
|
I'm actually not sure where people are getting that information from. I am unable to find this streak. Besides Flash's now 14-win Proleague streak, Jaedong also has 14, Bisu has 12. Sea's potential 15-win Proleague win streak was ruined by a single loss right in the middle of it. Other than that, I'm not sure what everybody is looking at.

More like Dear researched enough about Flash and figured out Flash's scan location and just played according to that. People need to give more credit to Dear for catching something like this in Flash's play.
But yeah, not really a demolish. Just outstrategized.

A lot of argument about what it means... I notice that apparently the way to beat Flash is to out-think him, which Dear put in the effort to do. Good for him!

I thought Boxer had the all-time record of 17 straight wins?
|
United States1719 Posts
I dunno, during the match they kept stressing that Gorush had the all-time winning streak at 15, and several other players like Reach and Bisu had the all-time proleague-game winning streak at 15 as well (so even if they lost an individual league game in the middle of that streak, their PL streak would still be alive), and if Flash won, he would tie the record for both.

Longest win streaks: gorush in 2004 and effort in 2009 tied at 15 straight wins.
There is actually a list on the kespa website of many records. Just look under results tab.

I think what happened was that flash knew the timing for slow reavers, and after that timing passed, and he didn't get harassed, he assumed that it was going to be a fast expo, and that no reavers where coming, so he canceled turrets. I think flash literally just brainfarted and forgot that dear could have been waiting for the speedshuttle timing before moving out. Of course missing the support bay with scans may have had something to do with it, but I doubt flash would have canceled turrets just because he didn't scan them - I think timing of the shuttle played a much larger role in this.

To be fair, they didn't get much play times. lol its funny because OZ could have been a powerhouse this season with 2 Protoss lead by the death god. Jaedong, Killer and hiya being the staple players. They could have the lack of good protoss they always needed. But unfortunately they just had to disband.

Yep. You can't be rookie of the year with 2 or 3 games on the season, so it's when for first time you are sent somewhat "frequently"

I would cancel them too. The same way you try to take a 3-rd or make a big push as soon as you see toss getting a 3-rd. You try to take advantage of scouting information.

FlaSh's robotic system is override, causing mass panic an chaos within the daily lives of the KT house. His days will be filled with blood lusting practices and will devour progamers that he feels are complete garbage. The next time he plays Dear, FlaSh will be so intense, that Dear and his computer will spontaneously combust and will blind every protoss except KT protoss's forever. This is what will happen. Lee Young Ho, end of the world, 2012. Maybe 14CC mode? Maybe. Or 9001 CC before Rax and defends with only SCVs. Then he goes on a 200/200 pure tank push and destroys the earth. If there is one person I would trust to be the last defender of the earth, it has to be Flash. Bisu will probably be too busy doing makeup. JD will probably piss off the wrong kind and Stork will make the stupidest blunder ever. JD would slump during some kind of war to save Earth. Stork would go mass carriers... and then lose all of them to goliaths or something. FlaSh is THE FINAL BOSS. Except with infinite hp and never goes below 200/200 supply.
I actually have to give congratz to dear. well played.
