edit: cleaned up some wrong statistics. This Review reflects regular PL only. Also added Horang2, ggaemo, and Jaehoon because they deserve it.
We all know the Proleague is nearing. We all know who we love and want to cheer for. The "??? Team will win PL this year" threads are all popping up. The Brood War community is boiling. And like a steaming kettle, is already screaming for the first match of games.
What has happened in the last 3 months? It seems that as group we have become crusaders to purify TL. And let the ignorant know that Brood War is the greatest strategy game of all time. But in the mist of that battle KESPA has shocked both sides of the fight. First, we find that a SC2 league is rumored to come in the future, but like all popular games this is what KESPA does. So, how can we trust that KESPA still believes in the BW community? The creation of the “The 8th Kespa”, the “Dream Team”, the “OMGJDBABYSEAPWNAGE team”.
Well, clearly the TL community is as strong as ever and it’s been refreshing to see the old sigs and even new ones start to awaken in the LR threads as the time grows near. And for you people, deserve a zero bias analysis of the year in review. We cannot speculate on the future of these teams, but it is easy to acknowledge what they did last year and what trends will follow them into the new season. So I now present to you: PL 2010-11 A Year in Review.
STX SouL: The Good: Shuttle!: 18 wins - 13 losses (58.06%) Who can’t be satisfied with Shuttle. He did everything asked of him last season. Taking on the brave task of playing Flash he win 2-1. In the mist of this, he played a large amount of PvP this season going 10-8. Even though his skill in PvP has dropped significantly, it’s looks as though shuttle could be the new protoss ace next season.
Calm: 15 wins - 15 losses (50.00%)... This is one of the top records for STX. So given, Calm did not clam it up last season he did not play exceptional either. Now Calm has the potential to establish himself as a team leader with Calm out of the picture, but will he be Jaedong or will he Hyuk himself.
The Bad: Kal: With the horrible record of 14-21, Kal had a terrible last season. Coming of 2010 where he played as top toss, he has dropped off as a reliable player of STX. While he is no longer with their team, his slump last season sticks with them, especially when he loses 10 of his last 14 games. May he play better at ACE, his fans sure deserve to see him play better.
The New: Bogus: Finishing 25-13, STX has finally been able to look to a new player. Bogus is a strong terran and has the potential to be at the top next season. He ended the season on a 7 game win streak including two wins against a very good Stats.
Samsung KHAN: The good: Stork: As always Stork has been consistent in PL. He finished with 24 wins - 19 losses (55.81%). While these numbers don’t stand out, it’s still impressive to clock above a 50% winrate. Stork ended the season as the leader of the team with a winning record vs Jaedong and Bisu. The most concerning stat for Stork currently is that he has a lower elo then BisuVT. And Bisu's VT peak is 5 points away from breaking storks.
The bad: JangBi: Wins an OSL but has a record of 13 wins and 18 losses. While he finished the season with a 6 game win streak, he lost 4 in a row during the PL playoffs. Jangbi may be considered the new favorite protoss in BW right now. Gathering lots of fans with his OSL wins, Khan fans will be watching him closely to perform well. Khan has a chance to have the best Protoss lineup in the league.
January: January is on the hotseat for her picks in ace match situations. Last season the correct answer was to play Stork every time. Fortunately RorO is a new potential ace for khan.
The new: Reality: 12-17 last season. He beat players Flash, Fantasy, and RorO. While his record is not impressive, the players he has beaten are.
CJ Entus: The Good: Entus has 4 top players averaging over a 60% winrate! Leta: Leta went a great 20-12 (62%) this season. It’s exciting to see this great Terran performing so well. Entus could call him the most reliable player as he finished his season with an amazing performance in the PL playoffs, including his finish against Flash and amazing Wraith play against Crazy-Hydra.
Hydra: Great in the PL and Single leagues, Hyrda has become one of the most consistent players in PL. He went 26-12 on the season. At may seem like for some one as good as Hydra he should have had more games played, but Entus has such a deep team that he is able to maintain a 68% win rate and not be forced on to the field 60 times.
Movie: It has to be refreshing if your an Entus fan. Having a player of each race performing consistently can really make your team a power house. Finished the season 18-10 (64% winrate) Movie has proven himself as one of the new top Protoss in PL.
Horang2: Horang went 21 wins - 11 losses with a 65.63% win rate. Playing even better then his partner movie, most people believed that Entus has the top protoss house. With a repeat of last season there will be no question in this title. Most impressively was Horang2's winning streak that consisted of beating in this order, Action, Iris, Shine, Pure, Jaedong, Shuttle, and Bisu!
The Bad: sKyHigh: 8 wins - 15 losses. Skyhigh ended with a 34% winrate. Someone who is supposed to be a strong terran played did not show up last season. Although his last 3 losses were again Flash, Bisu, and Jaehoon, sKyHigh is on the hotseat to perform better this season or risks being over taken by BByong as #2 terran.
The new: BByong: Finishing 6-7 BByong did not get to see much time in the spotlight, but Entus is so deep that it’s hard to find playing time. With EffOrt joining the force, every match Entus will have a sturdy lineup to rely, including BByong.
The good: Bisu: Last season Bisu scored 36 wins and 5 losses. That total’s an 87% winrate! He broke the record for most wins in a single season. His most suprising statistic would be his vT. He went 20-3 with losses only to Flash, HiyA, and Leta. All those losses came in winner’s league, which means Bisu went a perfect 20-0 against terran outside of winner’s league. Most notably if you look at the 10 terran he defeated, he beat every top terran you can name in PL last season.
The bad: Fantasy: Still undefeated in the Grand Finals of PL. Fantasy went 20-19 with a 51.28% winrate last season. While his individual league’s were great he definitely did not shine on SKT last season. He was cleary missed during the winter and throughout the playoffs where he went 0-6 including a lost to where. S-Class fantasy did not make an appearance last season in PL or help his team make #1.
The new: By.Sun: Possibly the best new protoss of the year with a 15-9 record 62%). His notable wins were against BaBy, Calm, Mind, Light.
n.Die_soO: SoO ended the season losing to Stats, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t play protoss. He marked a 7 game winstreak against protoss to conclude the season. Going 19-10 (65%.52) on the season, SoO has proven to be a reliable SKT Zerg and has possibly changed the reputation for the team.
Airforce ACE: The Good: firebathero: Going 18-13 with a whopping 58% winrate, FBH has had something to say about the talent of ACE. The terran lineup for ACE is very strong. FBH proved this year that he even could handle the aggression of the protoss by going 8-4 defeating Kal twice, Tyson, JangBi, and the Macro beastBeSt.
Iris: Berserker played insanely well this season going 10-8. He showed the BW fans that he has not fallen off the scene by joining ACE. His best wins coming against Shuttle and great, Iris should expect to see a lot more then 18 games next season and his many fans hope to see him dominate.
ggaemo: I think we all respect ggaemo a little bit more after his performance on ACE this season. While his overall record is still under 50%, seeing his turn around performance has been outstanding. Going 20-18, a solid 52%, he was able to establish himself as a top player for this ACE squad. While he may have lost to Jaedong and Flash in order to keep the balance of PL, he went a respectable 8-6 against protoss establishing that as his best matchup.
The Bad: Rock: His record of 0-5 really says enough about Rock. But why is this important? Because less wins for Rock means less ceremonies. We miss seeing his throat cutting gestures, but we’d all rather see ACE win and Rock on the bench. He will soon be replaced by Kal and a growing M18M.
The New: Canata: He went 2-7 as he joinged the ACE crew. And he earned his record in a typical ACE fashion. However, Canata gained redemption as he took a team kill off s2 in his only meeting against SKT.
The Good: ZerO: Going 30-19 Zero has become Woongjin go to guy. He has become a reliable ace and brought some of the best games last season including an astounding upset against Flash in a playoff ace match. He also provided an exciting victory against Bisu and an insane BvZ. He started the season off slow stringing together a 5 game losing streak and then showed great form by having only one other losing streak of a measily 3 games. His worst matchup last season was versus Protoss which stacked up a 58% winrate. He showed that he knew how to beat protoss in an end of the season pounding on JangBi.
Neo.G_Soulkey: Woongjin Zergs are no laughing matter. Neo.G_Soulkey brought queens into the match up last season and made terrans regret mech. Watch any game versus Fantasy to feel you’re whole body get major chills. SoulKey finished the season 28-15 at a respective 65% winrate. Nothing has been more exciting then seeing him grow under the guidance of ZerO.
The Bad: free: Quite possibly the most disappointing Protoss last season, Free went 15-20 with a horrid 42% win rate. It makes us sad to see such talent from 2009 to really fall of the wagon. No one can really explain how upsetting it was to see him lose 9 of his last 11 games and tank in the PL finals. Action should be embarrassed for losing to him.
The new: Light: While light is not new to the scene, he was the newest addition to the Woongjin lineup. He went 28-16 winning 63% of his games. Light was the perfect addition to this team. Bringing a new name to Woongjin terrans, he was the only player to go undefeated in the playoffs. Welcome to the Jungle Light, Woongjin is very happy to have such a solid terran.
The Good: Flash: 34-13 on the year, Flash has dominated once again with a 72% win rate. He has proven to be the final boss once again defeating BeSt in the Grand Finals. He has shown again that his Terrran is virtually unbeatable (except against Leta) and that while still outstanding, protoss is still his weakest matchup. Last season Flash struggled with a wrist injury and still managed to mark himself as player of the year. For KT fans, it must be fun loving this guy.
Stats: Violet getting sick was a hard hit for KT. They needed a new protoss hero and everyone looked to Stats. He stepped up to the plate and transformed into a solid hero becoming Flash’s “Robin” in this "Batman and “Robin” duo. He went 27-20 last season and ended the playoff stomping 3 very great vP Zergs (ZerO, SoO, and Hydra.) His worst streak being 4 games all season has established Stats as one of the most consistent PL players on the KT Roster.
The Bad: Action: Action wins the bad award going 16-22. The mafia zerg has proven to be about conistent as the Atlanta Falcons this season. He has great potential to be a great Hive tech Zerg and became very popular in his long game versus Flash. However, since he joined KT he has proven to do little for the regular season, but fortunately provided a few key wins among his many losses in the PL playoffs.
The New: Crazy-Hydra: KT fans really hoped that adding CH would make KT the most dominate team. While he provided a 17-20 record, he managed to lose his last 4 playoff games. CH was traded during the season and KT won without him, but 2012 is going to put a lot more pressure on him to perform better. He did however, go 11-8 vZ and show that he has become a somewhat reliable sniper in that matchup.
The good: Jaedong: 29-14 for the season is yet another dominating year for the former OZ ace. With only a losing record this season to Bisu and Stork, JD finished with a win a winning record over almost every other player including a 2-0 finish versus Flash. Jaedong has proven to be outstanding at vT at 70%winrate and even though his vZ has looked poor he still had a 68% win rate.
Sea: Sea finished 24-16 with a 60% win rate. He was definitely the second strongest player last year to join Team 8. While he may get nervous in the indivuals, Sea has become a Solid PL player. Upon Review, Sea could be seen as a vT titan with a 76% win rate he went 13-4 and proved to be Fantasy’s kryptonite all season long. Most notably, it is unfortunate for us BW fans that we never got to see him match up against Flash this PL and only saw him lose terribly in the OSL match to Flash.
BaBy: The third strongest player finished with a solid 18-15 (54%) win rate. BaBy did not play Stork or Flash all season and lost one game to both Bisu and Jaedong. BaBy has a lot to prove, but he seems immune to slumps only have a losing streak of 2 games all season. BaBy fans can be happy with his performance so far, but he really needs to be tested by TBLS.
Jaehoon: Our dream team captain not only has quite possibly the coolest hair in PL, but he also has a 65% winrate. This 23-12 protoss monster left nothing to be complained about. Looking back, his first game was a lost against Kwanro (a well missed player), but he took of some solid wins against Midas, sKyHigh, and Calm. While having a good record he managed to only run into and lose against Stork of the TBLS foursome. Everyone's eyes are on you Jaehoon, will you become a Hyuk and captain your team to victory on the sidelines or become Flash dive head first into every battle gaining victory after victory?
The Bad: Killer : He may have been on the royal road but he did not contribute enough to OZ. Going 17-18 with a 48% winrate is not acceptable and for some reason he was sent as Ace more often then he should have. While Killer may have become a great player, he has yet to shine in PL.
The New: Tyson: 18-15 record with a 54% win rate has marked Tyson as the new protoss in town. If you hadn’t heard of Tyson, he became well known in an epic match VT against Flash. Bloody Ridge set the location for a great match against the titan. Tyson proved he had great carrier control has he worked his way across the map in a slow and strenuous fashion. Clearly Tyson has the talent to become a top dog protoss and with Team 8 to practice with we can only hope to see more of him.
Pretty comprehensive. Good job with this! My only issue is you should've put Horang2 in the CJ write up he was a tremendously improved player last season.
why are your stats messed up? I realized that some poeple, JD and Flash in particular, are significantly short in matches. Fantasy seems to have gotten a full set.
Check the TL links, soulkey should be neo.g soulkey to get the zerg and not the terran, and violet should link to the BW violet thats toss not the sc2 violet thats zerg.
You forgot to mention Shine is going to be on khan, with him the zerg line should be decent, and Mind on KT is not to be overlooked though it seems that the 4 zergs strategy has been working, mind could give a post-surgery flash both a good practice partner as well as relief during game heavy weeks.
a tip when you're TLPD-izing your article: you can actually right click the TLPD-ize button and choose the BW Korean database. Should fix some of these errors.

Fixed the TLPD issues. Also, since this is based on last year's performances, Shine definitely did not play well enough to be mentioned on the Good although he did not play terribly bad. Same applies to mind. If anything, I feel bad for leaving out Ror.

Ya it was a great read but i think your forgot Horang2
Awesome work though this was well done! Love the images :D

Horang2 did play great, in fact I considered adding him. The bottom line is, CJ had 4-5 players that were very good this past season and so they all deserve honorary mention imo. I am a bigger fan of Horang2 as of last season.
Regarding Flash: "For KT fans, it must be fun loving this guy."
You have no idea haha.
I'm not gonna lie, if Flash wasn't on this team, I probably wouldn't be anywhere as big a fan. Especially after the Chintoss lost his chin... T_T_T_T_T_T_T
I have some issues to raise concerning the inconsistent statistics used.
Sometimes, you use the combined Proleague and Winners League stats (Bisu's 66-15 and Stork's 43-30), while for others you use only their Proleague stats. It looks strange for other players as the stats lead us to believe that they haven't played as many games.
Flash's 34-13 is his 2010-2011 Proleague stats, not his record for the year. It certainly gives the impression that Bisu played a ton better than everyone else. In reality, Flash comes close behind if you include his Winner's League's games where his overall record becomes 60-19.
Another slight nitpick: there is no mention of Best in the SKT section.
Sorry if I sounded critical. The article was a joy to read!

Yeah, I should def fix that. I miss clicked on the leagues and put the winner's league numbers included in for a few lol. Such a long article, I should have paid better attention Ill fix it, thanks.
edit: Fixed the numbers to reflect PL stats AFAIK. Did not factor WL as WL is less important this new year.

It was really hard to be a kt fan when we were getting trashed in 2010 all season T_T , Yes these victory was sweet , Especially we did it for Violet . Hope to see him come back in action we miss him...
You forgot the hoon, a very solid 23-12 record for him which is actually better than Sea's record and very close to JD's. Also kind of missing ggaemo, with his 20-18 record. Maybe others as well, I assume you had your reasons and you can't really include every player. Some of the stats are still weird but with such a large post, all is forgiven.
On November 14 2011 10:07 BisuDagger wrote: The Good: Entus has 3 top players averaging over a 60% winrate!
CJ had four top players with a win rate of over 60%, you forgot Horang2, who was 21-11 in the regular season (65.63%) and 27-16 including Winner's League (62.79%).
- get rid of the "VT" TLPD link under Stork. - Bisu's regular PL record is 36-5, not 26-5. Also, if you're not going to count WL stats, his vT record is 10-0, not 20-0. - Give CrazyHydra a TLPD link. - Remove the TLPD links to "Lost ONE" under Dream Team.
And why aren't you counting WL anyway? There's been no official info released on the number of rounds, or what type they'll be. For all we know, it could easily be 3 normal PL rounds, 2 WL.

SoulKey did not grow under the guidance of SoulKey
"Nothing has been more exciting then seeing him grow under the guidance of SoulKey."
stats : Not sure in ententional, bud I would write it like this : original : “Robin” in this Batman and “Robin” me : “Robin” in this "Batman and Robin”
Well and sadly a lot of TLPD errors.
Dont take it the wrong way, thank you very much for the write-up :D

None taken. The only way to become good at writing these articles is to take criticism from knowledgable people. I plan on going thru after work today and fixing all my mistakes so I can have a better article.
Addressing the winners league stats. When searching I initially searched team games played btw 2010-2011 and used those stats. I obviously did SKT first as this article was originally gonna be about them. Then when I expanded I found out there was a 10-11 shinhan bank proleague button and started to use that. Btw making the art and writing the stats all in one day I didn't notice that shinhan bank pl button didn't include winners league.
Ill will provide better and more accurate news in the future, thanks for being patient with me and I hope you have taken enjoyment from it regardless of the errors. SKT fighting!
Well apart from what people are poiting out (and if I may add you have Hyrda in the CJ section and KTViolet as the sc2 zerg instead of BW Protoss) this is amazing
Great read, effective in generating even more HYPE and a nice review to put things in perspective before the start of the new season. Good job sir, and the Alien thing was nice. Im really excited to see how EffOrt will perform this season. We have such a deep team again, lets see if this is our year! CJ fighting!

Must've took a lot of work. This makes me ever prouder to be an STX
Yeah, I really wish I could have done more for STX. Their section was really lacking but so were they last year. I pray to god they can throw it down with the big dogs and keep the pool of teams exciting! All eyes are on Calm imo to be the the team Ace.
I wish STX would recruit Hiya. It's such a pity that someone of his ability is without a team. Same goes for Pusan. What's a coach like that doing streaming on Afreeca everyday, letting netizens criticize him. urgh.
Excellent post! You really got me hyped for the new season!
Your statistical analysis only confirms what I think: CJ is gonna be top dog this year. You cannot have so many players above 60% winrate and not take #1 (except perhaps during Winners League when Bisu and Flash defeat everyone). Not to mention the return of Effort. As good as Hydra was last year, the guy couldn't beat Flash if his life depended on it. Effort can simultaneously train Hydra to beat Flash while kicking his own ass. CJ is scary.
Poor STX. They are basically Bogus only, with some Shuttle support. If only Calm would remember that he was an MSL winner.
Khan will show Protoss power though, and win the title even if they have to do it from a #4 seed.

Hum its not there...either it was Hyrda and you fixed it before I posted to Hydra...or Im just stupid and misread twice =/

HIYA TO KHAN! They got Shine, if they got a solid Terran... suddenly every team is fuckin terrifyingly strong! This season just might be the most exciting one EVER!!! WOWOWOW I just pooped
EDIT: My predictions on the outcome of the 11-12 season: #1 - Dream Team! They are all hot blooded and ready to tear shit apart. bo5 format = JD/Sea/Baby ez win #2 - CJ A sic solid deep team #3 - Woonjin /fanboyism, and zero is so cute #4 - KT I just don't think Flash's team will be able to back him up this time. Where the other teams non-aces were a bit shaky last season, the entire roster of teams seem to have increased in skill. I don't think Flash will be able to carry the team to victory with the depth of the other line-ups #5 - SKT I love Bisu, but don't think he will do as well as he did last season. Without Bisu insanity, they will fall to mediocrity. #6 - Khan Actually, if Hiya goes to Khan I think theres a chance they could come out on top 3. Shine is already an awesome addition to their line up, but maybe not enough to put them high in the ranks. #7 - ACE! IRIS and FBH #8 - STX Bogus
This season is going to be so awesome! With Flash unable to practice during his surgery and recovery, Stats is going to have to step up to the plate and become the team's pocket ace. Also can't wait to see manner FBH playing again. Does anyone have the map list for next season?
Poor STX. They are basically Bogus only, with some Shuttle support. If only Calm would remember that he was an MSL winner.
I think if there are indeed fewer games per week in PL, calm will be able to show a better performance. he has always done better when he has more time to prepare for a match.

You guys think kt have only flash and stats ??? we have freaking MIND who was supposed to be the next terran bonjwa backing us up right now . 2011 proleague is going to be exciting indeed . KT 3peat baby !.

didn't tossgirl switch to sc2 a bit ago? although she wasn't mentioned in that retiree thread though...
Poor STX. They are basically Bogus only, with some Shuttle support. If only Calm would remember that he was an MSL winner.
I think if there are indeed fewer games per week in PL, calm will be able to show a better performance. he has always done better when he has more time to prepare for a match.
Well there are only 3 matches a week now, right? :D
Post is awesome, but I might recommend getting a proof-read buddy next time ^^;;

What?
What.
how am I supposed to argue that we're the best team if we don't have tossgirl anymore. It's all we got going for us as of the end of last season! :p
I was gonna make an "STX will win Proleague 11-12" with just that one line in it but I don't think it'd go over well...

She was invited to play in a sc2 match in shanghai pavilion expo , that doesn't mean she is going to retire =.= . http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=143688 and also invited to play in to sc2 3d competition http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=258399 You made my love tossgirl heart sank a bit , come on she is a freaking beauty, I still have *cough* dreams of her at night . Besides that I believe tossgirl still shouldn't be cut out of the hype thread for stx will win the proleague 2011-2012 .

Yeah KT looks nigh unbeatable until you look some of the other teams. If Stork and Jangbi play at their peak level, then there are 5 close contenders for the title: KT, SKT, team octopus, CJ and Khan. Woongjin looks pretty good as well except they haven't been bolstered by any new players. CJ made it to the semi finals without Effort, SKT only narrowly lost (could have ended 4-0 if not for a ZvZ) and the dream team is obviously OP.
edit: Close competition and fewer games per week will probably make the season even better than the last.
The number of wins seems wrong for a few people. Bisu had 63 wins, if I remember correctly (which would increase his win-rate percentage, as well), and Flash had more than 50. Could it be that, by mistake, only the games from 2011 were considered, failing to take into account the games from the end of 2010?

30 of Bisu's wins were from Winner's League. OP decided to include only the games from the regular rounds of PL.

Thanks, I have one in on the way hopefully. It's currently the last of my series of ideas I had. Should be epic if I can do it. Regardless, everyone get Hyped!
