Sea: "If we keep the Best of 7 format, we'll be the strongest."
"Can't we make the format a Best of 7?"
That was the first question Sea asked when we started this interview. He was asking about the upcoming new season of Proleague's format. When I said that nothing was confirmed yet, he said, "well, you can write an article with that request to make it a Best of 7 format."
The 8th Team comprises of the strongest players from Hwaseung Oz, WeMade FOX and MBCGame HERO. After the disbanding of the three teams following the end of the 10-11 Proleague season, KeSPA gathered the strongest players from each of the disbanded teams to form a new team, while waiting for a sponsor. The result was a team comprising of Jaedong, Sea, BaBy, Jaehoon, Tyson and Killer. (T/N: They didn't mention the 3 rookies lol how sad.)
Judging by this lineup, if the upcoming season indeed follows the Best of 7 format, the 8th Team will be the strongest team yet. In a Best of 7 format, 6 of these core members will be able to participate, thus gaining an edge over any other team.
After having practiced together for 10 days, Sea concluded that this was indeed "a team that can be called a Dream Team." "The internal evaluation games are of an individual league's Round of 8 standard," Sea said, adding that there were no "easy" players at all. The games were so tough that even Sea, who is called "The Proleague Guy", had trouble hitting the 50% winrate mark.
Sea said, "I am very strong against Zergs and Terrans, but after practicing against Jaedong, Killer and Baby, it gets demoralising", but added that "after practicing against them, my skills have definitely upped a notch."
Sea is now practicing intensively following the tough evaluation matches from early morning. Sea sleeps early and does not practice late into the night, so he wakes up at 7am instead - 3 hours ahead of everyone - to start his practice. He wants to practice just as hard as other players who practice up to 3am every night.
He ended off by saying that "I don't know about the new format, but if it is still a Best of 7 format, it will be much easier for our team to win" and predicted that "should the new season be a Best of 7 format, we will be the strongest team ever."
If it indeed is as he says then they should definitely have a bo7 format, since the better team 8 does the more likely it is that they find a sponsor, which in turn is good for everyone : )
I guess the fact that he was photographed in his old uniform means that Team 8 has no uniform of its own yet. Which makes sense, since there's no sponsor and it would be a waste of money to make uniforms that they'll wear for two weeks before being purchased, but it's going to be weird if they play their first PL match just wearing whatever.

This is actually a good point that I never thought of :D
Go Sea! Your competition seems to be really high in all those good players.

I think all the players in this new team should just wear their old team gear. Kinda like a homage to past BW greatness.
i take it sea didn't win that round of 8. I(nternal) Starleague fail for sea. Either baby/killer/jaedong won i take it, and jaedong and killer have both proven better last year, so JvK and with JvZ the way it is, i think killer won it.

Killer won it. And his reward was choice of seat and he chose the one furthest away from the coach's desk.

Yeah it's been mentioned, imagine if they smash both teams 4-0. What a start that would be, probably set the LR thread on fire too. Thinking about all the potential match ups we could receive makes me hard.
7000 bottles of beer on the wall, drink another 1000 tomorrow, 7000 bottles of beer on the wall. Proleague is killing me T_T dont wana wait this long...
While everyone else is practicing from 10 AM to 3 AM...Sea, being the baller he is, gets up at 7 AM and puts in the required 15 hours and calls it a day at 12 midnight so he still has the bedroom to himself for 3 whole hours. I bet he sleeps like a king (for 3 hours anyway)
No one knows what he does in the computer room from 7 AM to 10 AM, Coach should be more careful Knowing Coach Han can perform some jiu jitsu on him should keep Sea in line. New DDR terran anyone?

OMG! You'd get a team that's....a little bit better than average (Sea's winrate was 54% last year).
It's not like a normal curve distributing players around a mean 50% winrate. People who perform above a 1:1 ratio get a lot more games over the course of their careers than the guys who wither at like 2-10 and retire. There would be plenty more players under 50% than over. Sea has been really fucking good for quite a few years, and if this team makes him sweat, it's probably a good one. This team is the coolest thing to happen in a long time for so many reasons: not a lot of players so a huge concentration of talent, a Legendary resurrected coach, Sea's peculiar bedtime habit, cramped living arrangements and not a lot of money that nobody cares about because they're too happy to be playing again... the whole situation just gives me goosebumps.
to be blunt, i always thought sea was ridiculously overrated and cracks under pressure. "master of proleague" finishes with a 50% win rate and flunks in all the leagues?
but to be fair, i think he's going to get much better being able to practice with jaedong and killer. can't wait until the 19th (if that IS when it starts)

I guess he's past his prime, and he's called "master of proleague" precisely because he fails all his leagues lol

Almost 58% in Proleague last season with 71 games played. That was the 3rd best record for a Terran. Sea's TvZ was very weak last season but the other two match-ups were rock solid. You guys don't know what you're talking about.
On November 14 2011 15:50 PH wrote: You'd think with such a small lineup, a bo5 would be better for them o.o
Yeah but bo5 is always good for teams with a few standout players, because that way they can clock a win with someone like Flash or JD and then if they can pull a 2nd win they get to ace match. For this team, small as it is, every player is fairly solid so more matches just exposes the shallower teams. Ofc I can see it the other way around too, getting a choice between the players could prove advantageous.

true words
Its so rare nowadays... to see stars with that attitude, it feels like a family
Family put together with passion to the game (and skill that came along with it), small salaries, but they don't care they live, eat, sh.. Brood War, and they are happy to train!
Upcoming season will be one of the hottest for sure!
"after practicing against Jaedong, Killer and Baby, it gets demoralizing" See, this is why I think Sea and Baby gonna have some tough time getting into the pace. In fact if there is a top notch player in a team the other members seem to slump more often, remember KT Flash or JD Oz. Honestly I will have my fingers crossed for them, I hope they will kick some hardcore ass this year. This is indeed my dream team, JD and Baby my most favorite heroes.
