Purpose of sGs: To provide newer players with a group of new players they can practice with and to have available more experienced players that can coach and advise them as desired. Also, to provide a little more of a social atmosphere and make trying/learning BW less of a cold, dark, ladder grind. The main nexus of this group is the skype group, if your really looking for an active bunch of good guys to play with I highly recommend joining that (PM L_Master with your skype name)
How do I Join? • Go to iccup.com and create an account, have sGs in your name • Head over to the team page here: http://www.iccup.com/teams/27072.html • Select Join Team • Congratulations, your now a member of sGs!
Where We Hang Out - You can find us in several places: • op teamliquid – The official BW hangout for TL members. To get here just log into iccup and type /j op teamliquid • Skype – We have a skype group where you can meet to chat, see if offline players wanna play, get game discussion going, etc. • Webpage – Webpage for various clan activities, gatherings, and discussions: http://starcraftgenerations.webs.com/apps/forums/
Tips and Tricks: • Want to see whos online – type /c o, this will display all online clanmates. Typing /c l will list ALL clanmates, online or not. • Feel free to PM me of others on TL if you wanna play some practice games or just ask questions.
Basically sGs is the option for low level players, new BW players, people not used to BW switching from SC2 etc to gather and interact together and of course have opponents of similar skill to play. Eventually we want to have organized practice times where people can play together and have a coach with each practice group to help out if desired.
Stayed tuned as this project continues to expand and become more organized and awesome!
***sGs now has a skype group, and that really is the core of the clan! If your looking for the community, coaching, and general camaraderie that is the place to be. Not to mention that way if people want to talk to people to set up games or be able to discuss games much more easily you can do so. Given the nature of skype you have to be added to the group, so just PM me if you would like to be added***

Hi, hi! sGs.Nazza here. I don't hang out on iccup often because there aren't enough games/ppl on at my timezone at night. But feel free to find me on #teamliquidbw or if I'm streaming on my stream. Usually avail for practice games whenever.
How's this going so far? I'm gonna grab sc and bw when I go home for break so I'm gonna try to get in on this if there's any interest/participation in this.

I'll prob be devoting more of my time to SC2 but I'm interested in getting better at BW ^_^'''
.... so I guess I'll join o_o
I played sc2 for about 6 months, then my laptop was in the shop so I could only play BW. When I got sc2 back my mechanics were 10x better. I feel like playing both games is beneficial.

Well, right now obviously everything is just getting off the ground, but I wanted to start spreading the word about this. We'll try to have some sort of activity here in the next 2 or 3 days.
And of course everyone can help by congregating in op teamliquid and making a point to play with fellow sGs members. Basically anyone with an sGs tag is either a new player wanting to learn, or someone a little better that is happy to help teach.
Fuck it, I'll just get a new e-mail address and join the clan. There are a lot of great guys in it. Fabiano, Cocky, Thirdeye (the guy who I beat to get to D+), L_Master (who runs 100m in 13.18) and all other good guys.

My suggestion: MOTW Tournament in every week. Seems a little bit not-so-creative but it helps people learn maps quickly.
You should join iccup clan league - the other teams in div C are also quite low skill and it could be a good way to make things more exciting for new members if you have a match to play on the weekends.

I agree with Poetic here. It can really inject another element into things for the new players.
GL guys, I think the timing is perfect to get this going again.
Hey, Ive been following closely the Strengthening BW thread and i wanted to help as i could, i wanted to join the clan as a "teacher" but I am already a member of [MB] that is participating on CLaW, how does this rule:
3.4 Players may only be members of a single Clan; it is the Clan Leaders' duty to ensure that Players are not members of another Clan, no matter whether this other Clan plays in the Clan League or not.
apply to sGs?
It would be great if you, L_Master, could address this issue with an ICCup admin, as with would, in my opinion, increase the volume of players attending to sGs significantly.
This is exactly what new players need. A network of players similar to their skill level and experience with whom they can communicate and play. GL & HF to everyone joining this clan!

I figured this out yesterday. You have to make a new account, but you can use your same email address (if you have gmail at least). Let's say your current account is tied to the gmail account person@gmail.com. To make a new account with this email again, simply put a period somewhere in the name of your email address when registering. So, in the example given, you could register with the email address per.son@gmail.com. ICCUP considers this to be a different email address, but gmail will redirect it to your gmail account. I'm not sure if this works for other email address providers. Hope this helps!

im very interested in learning bw, i dont own a computer that can run sc2 anymore so ive decided to make the switch so to speak. i did play bw for a couple years prior to sc2's release but never particularly got anywhere... my name on iccup is dewg0ng, can change to sGsdewg0ng if it means you guys will play with me ;D
Had a fun time tonight playing with sGs.Cobalt and another sGs player whose name I can't remember. But he helped me with early game BOs which I immediately messed up in a real game x.x I play as sGs.Baller and I should be on a decent amount. At school I can't forward ports so people will have to create for me . But thank you to the mysterious sGs stranger whose name I forgot who let me play 5 minute games with him!
alright im in, D+ toss here but i havent laddered in a while (and never laddered seriously) so idk how i am. lets play obs some time so we can help eachother improve
edit: name is sGs.SaladToss also I live in china so the timezone is really off, but i play at a lot of diff times throughout the day (especially on weekends) so we might still be able to play some time

Dude I have asked you for games heaps and you never respond! (bm14cc)
The highest I got since coming back a month ago was 1900pts with Zerg, but I've been switching races often because I can't decide on a race, and I'm pretty good with all races. Zerg is my best race, but there are so many high-level foreign zergs and I hate ZvZ. I think with 1 more month I will be able to beat D+ with every race.
Anyway I'm gonna create a new account under sgs if that's ok. Will post when I get around to it.
I've been working out of airports the past few days but I was just able to accept everyone with an sGs tagged account.
As far as events go, I think clan league on iccup is not a good idea. From previous experience I think it'd be best for interested people to create a smaller branch off team specifically for that. Can discuss more when I'm in front of my desktop again.

Don't be deluded, Z isn't that much easier than T. What's even worse for Z is that you can't have a centralised production hub late game like T since you have to spread your hatcheries around new expos somewhat.
I guess what I'm saying is, if you want to play Terran but the difficulty is putting you off, just start playing T and it will come to you with practice. There's pretty much no other way around it

Thats how it feels at least :\
I'll make an account tonight, i love the idea ^_^ I don't have much time to play though.

Hmm for me so far this seasons its: 48% Terran 40% Protoss 12% Zerg
Which is a same since PvZ is my favorite and the MU I suck at most.

I dunno, I'm pretty low myself D-. I've never actually thought about race distribution until this thread now because it's always felt 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 to me. And sometimes zerg heavy- but maybe I remember them more because I am rubbish at defending my fast expands from all the possible busts or fast tech Zergs have :S
Edit Now mind you, the old sGs tended to have a lot of Protoss in it, so maybe there's something to that.

I don't really see the point in chossing protoss because it's "easier" tho, if you never played 1v1 you're gonna get smashed anyway when you start out
I remember once, when I was still young and unwise I showed BW to a girl and asked her which race she fancies most. Protoss she said "because they look expensive".
The lack of terran is strange if I knew about the mechanical nature of T gameplay and the sublime power of their armies when controlled correctly when I was starting to play BW I would have definitely opted for it. But alas, all I knew was that the zerg soundtrack was by far the most awesome and now I am infested for life. Don't give up the fight my squishy terran friends!

I laughed and the song "Gold Digger" immediately popped into my head when I read this.
I usually host games and when people join my race is already set to Protoss, so mostly of the people end up picking Zerg versus me, which sucks because I can't beat Zerg.... not sure if their main is Zerg or they just dodge certain matchups.
rant: how are you supposed to break 6 sunkens behind an evo and hatch...... fucking simcity.. and then there is also the mutas. Holy crap fuck mutas they are so annoying, even more annoying than mosquitos flying into your ear during your sleep..... fuck mutas.
I hope to get back into practice, but school is draining me TT And my PvZ is absolutely horrible, I cannot do anything to even try to win playing standard ><

I've been experimenting more on 1 base play. I know it's not standard, but it feels a lot more comfortable to me. Plus I don't lose to all the possible ling all-ins/hydra busts/2hatch muta/quick lurker/etc crap that's really hard to scout from FE for us low level players. PvZ was the source of almost all my frustrations in BW, but since I started 1basing I've been a lot happier, even if it isn't the current strongest way to play.
I think that is because sadly there is not enough info on how to properly execute "standard" builds. e.g. Liquipedia tells you the build order, but I once found a post by Idra on how to do a 9 min push tvz, things like cancel marines and get 2nd rax asap if you scout 12hatch, get factory before +1, and such are not explained well in liquipedia, they are such eye openers because i would all of a sudden find myself with double the army size at checkpoint timings (pre-spire, pre-lurker, etc), which snowballs since i would take less damage from mutas and so on.
When you do a 1-base build there's not much deviation so you often get to play perfect for far longer, and it can easily put you in a better midgame than a poorly executed fe, alas for us noobies we can't even tell that we are doing it wrong so we can't improve.
on a related note, i downloaded the tsl2 replay pack, which handle was idra using in it?

Hi I'm sGs.Fusi I decided to come to BW from SC2 I plan on playing terran and I would like to pratice with fellow low level players as I'm a little bit nervous about playing BW against real people and some matches before I start laddering would help me get over my initial online nerves that I always have playing an online game at first. But a quick newbie question anyways what's the basic 101 for new players TvZ and TvT opening? I know siege expand for TvP but I'm not too sure about the other matchups right now against the AI I just kind of wing it but I'd much prefer to have some kind of basic opening in my mind.

Just like for starcraft 2, Broodwar also has a Liquipedia page chalk full of strategies for all 3 races. Here is the link to the terran portion
Just made an account and played a few bw games for the first time in...probably a decade? Name is sGs.Runnin, D- (is there an F?) random player. supa ez, just expo yourself and gaurd your expoes while you maintain map control with your big scary army he can't beat yet since he made so many sunks. Then it becomes a battle of late-game skills.
Also always maintain air superiority in PvZ, either w/ +1 Corsair mass or Maelstrom.

sGs.Bata here. Interested in playing some BW after so long. Was a D level P, but I remembered winning my first game after 5 or so losses, then stoppped. Also interested in trying out T.
Over 200 members now! I'm going to be training as Zerg and I'm a high D- low D player so if you are around my skill level, check if I'm online: sGs.Matteox
On ladder there are mostly protoss, then zerg, and lastly terran. In higher level there are more zerg (isl2 top 12, almost every team in divA is stacked with Z, etc) because most protoss are generally not that strong. There are very limited terran players past b-, most of them are korean.
Guys I've been playing for almost two years and I've only made it to D+. These days I'm playing way under my usual level, but I need someone to coach me real time. If anyone could give me some pointers on how to get better, I'd appreciate it. I'm sGs.obZeN in-game, and i feel like i'm trying to too much cute stuff (that's fun to do) and I lose to players who seem a lot worse than I am, but just mechanically I'm not there.
For example, I went 1 gate reaver PvP, held off a 2 gate zealot rush barely losing any probes and I think 2 goons (one I micro'd hardcore but for some reason the other goon was obeying my commands but not the one I selected, hardcore rage!!) and then went to harass him with my reaver and was getting an expo up. I threw down another gate after that pressure and then another 2 when my expo was almost done. I had 8ish dragoons when my extra 2 gates popped, about to get into macro mode, and the enemy comes barging in with a bunch of chargelots and a few goons (he only had 1 base) and by the time my reaver got there it was too late.
I checked over the replay and he had literally 40apm and I had 180. I played SC2 first at the masters level so I feel like I have the SPEED needed (checking through gates, upgrades, etc etc, making sure probes mine as they come out of nexus you know the macro ordeal) and am able to keep my money pretty low, but my actual mechanics seem to be completely off if I can lose that easily to someone with 40 apm ;,;
I try to look over the builds on TLWiki but a lot of them don't really give me a much needed direction, and some don't even list what to build at what time!

Sometimes goons get glitched because of too many commands. Just press "s" and it will "reset."
and then went to harass him with my reaver and was getting an expo up.
What happened to this reaver? All he needs to have is 3-4 goons at the right spot and you lose your reaver and your expansion.

You gotta be careful taking an expansion when you are playing a reaver+gate against a pure gate army. He'll have more stuff than you, but if you keep your reaver alive you will win the engagement. Basically, the key here is having that reaver and not letting it get sniped.
I checked over the replay and he had literally 40apm and I had 180. PvP is a really strategical game, where you have to engage at the proper angles. Early on it comes down to engaging well and microing your reavers, while later you need to make the best use of your HTs.
i had my reaver in a dropship heading over to his base to harass, because i didn't realize that he was 1 basing me hardcore until the shuttle got there and as soon as he saw the shuttle there he ran into my expo (i did have my goons spread for a nice arc etc, but he just had more shit than me since my expo didn't kick in yet) and so my shuttle was hauling ass back to my base as i got worked on.
PvP is the hardest switchover for me, templar in sc2 PvP is non-existent because its shit, i have a lot to learn!!

Yeah, like he said you were ahead from that 2 gate or whatever, and this is comming from my limited pvp knowledge, but if you're so far ahead i think it would have been better to have kept the reaver at home and play safe, expanding in pvp is as hard as fuck and if hes going pure gate its somewhat supposed to be a punishing push/all in, remember this is my limited pvp knowledge, but you could have possibly have had your dragoons (assuming its something like fs) at his natural bridge and dropping his probes, then using that to scout/ buy time for the shuttle to come home while still backing off your goons.
Hey sGs.Mendulla just signed up right now. I am a D level zerg but I sometimes play other races. I have been playing for a few months now mostly on weekends casually. I am just looking for some practice partners to play similar match-ups until I learn the basics. Hope to meet you all soon. My old account was Mendula, feel free to message me anytime I am on.

If you want the simple way of using iCCup just download the anti-hack launcher and select the directory of starcraft.exe when you open the program.

I dled all the needed files including the anti hack, the patch, the reg file, and the game that was linked my Lmaster. I used winzip and got the game files and transferred that to a folder and then when I launched the launcher and selected that file, it told me something about a cd rom error and told me to reinstall.

It would be great if you, L_Master, could address this issue with an ICCup admin, as with would, in my opinion, increase the volume of players attending to sGs significantly.
Thank you.
Um, no. You can't. It's a pretty straight forward rule... Simple work around: don't tag up? lol

PvP is the hardest switchover for me, templar in sc2 PvP is non-existent because its shit, i have a lot to learn!!
Everyone seems to be over-analyzing your game. In my opinion, you just need to make one simple change: scout with a probe before you send your reaver. Or more generally, if you take an expansion in PvP, you should check to see if he's doing the same. If you have an expansion and he doesn't, you should just play defensively because you'll be ahead once it kicks in. If he expands at around the same time or before you, you're free to harass because he won't have a big enough army to just attack you. It sounds like in your game, you expanded but he just 1 base all-in'ed you and won.
I might have to make a new account for this ^^ I suck at BW im D terran, trying to get better. But my timezone does not favor me in finding opponents...

Actually, with some better M&M micro you can possibly snipe the reaver and/or shuttle. It's a bit of a long shot, but going M&M vs toss is a bit of a longshot as it is (ie, your late game is mostly crap because of storm), so why not go all the way

It's good in early game cheeses/allins(deep 6 etc) but other than that its really pretty awful
late game the big gate way balls(even if you survive the early reavers) will rip mnm apart for cost

ok i'm wondering if this is just how BW is or is my keyboard bad ($10 logitech)
2 examples)
1) when playing zerg, lets say in the beginning of the game i want to build 1 drone and then send my guys to minerals. so i hit hatch hit sd then send drones to mine. 9/10 times it does not register that i built a drone and i have to do it like somewhat slowly for it to actually register. also, if i hit 5sd6sd7sd somewhat fast (i KNOW i'm not mis-clicking) almost every time one of the hatches don't register that i built something from the larva...
2) say i have units on 1,2,3,4. i want them to all go somewhere, so i hit 1a2a3a4a. once again, i know i did not missclick. a LOT of times, one of the control groups does not register that i told them to move and they sit there doing nothing, and i have to find out what group didnt go and then send them to go.
is this how BW is or is my keyboard just having a problem with me doing too many commands at once??

Some keyboards do that ghosting thing if you type too fast. Also, it could be due to lag.
Ok definitely not gonna be playing with this clan lol, theres a problem with accepting anyone who applies. its a good idea but you get a clan filled with bmers.
just played a pvt against sgs.ouzo, he obviously had no idea what he was doing and just turtled on 3base with 12931293810 tanks and turrets. so i just expanded everywhere and suicided my army into him over and over until he ran out of army/money. he proceeded to lift as many buildings as he could, hide them everywhere, and build shit all over the map to make me go find it. im actually still looking for his last (?) hidden building now lol.
what a sore loser..
edit: figured id contribute something while i post

this is ghosting for sure. my keyboard does it too, cant be bothered to go get a better one. so as a toss player i have to 1a2a3a4a5a really slowly or half my control groups get ghosted and dont go. but its ok because all us toss players do are 1a2a3a4a5a>win anyways

Seriously, I'm surprised people haven't caught on about it. Accepting people of all skill works but you have to do it MB style and actually get to know the people before they join. If you just let people apply and join you'll get that issue and die pretty fast, as seen with npnl, hon/bsg(old bsg), a51 etc...

This in and of itself is fine, as sGs is meant for people off all skills levels, especially those that are very new to the game.

This however, is not. You raise a very good point.
I'm actually not sure how to handle this. Getting to know everyone personally would be great, but when your getting 10+ join requests per day I'm not really sure that is feasible.
I'd be interested in hearing peoples feedback on this issue.
Instead of having them just creating an account and applying to join(lol so easy to smurf) have them actually contact a leader and talk about random stuff(how long been playing highest rank w/e) and I'm sure you can get a feel of what type of person they are. Obviously this won't give uber deep insight in their inner personalities but you get the point.
Hm, I don't know. Because it gets difficult having to having to make all these judgment calls on whether a person had a reasonable chance of winning on a base trade vs just being a poor loser (though dySpHoRia's case seems pretty cut and dry.)
I suppose at the bare minimum some sort of sGs code of conduct/ manner expectations could be posted somewhere/ messaged to new members. It would at least clear out possible assumptions or complete ignorance on BW etiquette.
Maybe a contact person to report out of line players? Seems an unfortunate hassle to deal with, but it would be a shame if the sGs's goal of getting more newbies to play is derailed by a poor reputation. I don't really have a good solution.
I haven't ran into anyone who was BM to me yet, everyone has been really nice so far...you didn't incite anything did you?
If there are various reports of the same person being BM to fellow clan mates then I don't see why he wouldn't be removed and/or had a nice talking to to shape him up.

Definitely some sort of extremely low tolerance/zero tolerance on excessive BM is good and should be implemented. Now if someone does this out of frustration a line or two at the end of a game that's one thing, but nonsense like lifting building, continued harass, verbal abuse, etc is definitely no tolerance stuff.
Smurfing should be pretty easy to deal with, I mean once a person gets even like 5-1 or 8-3 or something its pretty obvious that they are much better than what we want. They either volunteer to help as a coach or they're gone. If there willing to stay at low D to smurf random noobs...well I don't even know why someone would want to do that in the first place.

Definitely. I will be writing this up and making this clear soon.

Something like this could work, or just making it explicitly stated that members should immediately inform one of us leaders about excessive BM or other unacceptable behavior. I'd rather sort through some "tattle tales" than have people have to deal with assholes/BMers.

yeah, at first it waas understandable because he was just turtling hard and i was just suiciding army over and over until his turtle broke. so i can understand staying in the game for a little while. but he did lift his buildings and hide shit everywhere which is kinda lame.
its not a big deal lol i dont really care, im just letting you know cuz its your clan and all. i dont recall doing anything to provoke this, i hardly ever take during games and i very, very, very rarely bm anymore about anything.
edit: i dont think this guy deserves to be punished though, unless its happening over and over again. everyones done something like that before, losing can be frustrating, especially long games. just saying lol.

I'd like to point out that ICCUP does not see that as BM behaviour. Just hunt down the buildings (I find it fun) and never play against the guy again. I don't like it when things like this are called BM, don't put it together with things like verbal abuse which are a lot more serious imho.

That's interesting since the BM FAQ of iccup has this...
BM cases that we will NOT investigate
-Not reported games due dischack or disc
-Opponent floating buildings
-Opponent not wanting to leave the game
-Opponent using manner pylon
-Game leaver before 2 mins have passed
-Changing race right before game started
-Any bugs used during game
-All related ladder complaint issue
-Talks which are not referred directly to you.
If your thread include any of the issues listed above – your case will be deleted and ignored.
Of course you can open a new thread with the proper content.

Dude, it's poor sportsmanship. No way around it and it gets categorized as bm, don't make such a big deal out of it. If it doesn't bother you then that's great but the rest of us are upset that after a presumable long and hard game the other player doesn't have the decency to actually take leave, and to waste my time.
Well it may be an issue that iCCup doesn't find worth while to enforce/ investigate. But it's a separate question entirely whether sGs wants that sort of behaviour from its players.

True, my point is that it should be considered a lesser offence when compared to the ones iccup does have beef with.
I don't understand why you think whether or not it is something that ICCUP would investigate is relevant here. The question is how to deal with something we think is unacceptable bm.
Gah would love to play with you guys since I'm not enjoying SC2 anymore. Last time I switched to BW I didn't have anyone to practice with as much as I wanted and started to play other games. But there is one thing thats kinda holding me back.
When I'm playing on iccup I have a really bad response time. It's not lagging/stuttering but just the response time when I'm making units, moving them and stuff is like 1 second and you can't play with that. Is there any settings I should change or do I just have bad luck with my ISP and the servers for some reason? T_T

Be that as it may, NONE of that behavior is acceptable in my eyes, especially for a clan designed to welcome and be a pleasant experience for newer players.

I AM an sGs admin. Hence the reason I care. I hadn't thought of BM type stuff and reputation being a problem but starting to hear about it now and with the size of sGs, its definitely something that needs to be addressed and made clear that it isn't okay to do.

Is it the same when you play LAN?
Nope on LAN everything is great.
Unlike SCII BW works peer to peer, so the response times should be different with every opponent. Are you connected to the internet through a router? If so have you forwarded your ports?

Hi guys, I would like your help. I recently started playing bw again, but I don't know what race I should play. I'm not asking for you to decide, I'm wondering how hard it is to play terran at the lower levels, compared to the other races.
It equals out. I know you want something better than that but anyone who says any race is easier are just silly.
I like to go random when I get bored and recently I've found ZvT being more accessible for me (compared to PvT) and my Z play skills are trickling into my P play.
I would do 30 games as P, T and then Z (90 total) You'll definitely have a grasp for what you'd like to play like from there.
If we're talking opinions though? I've always been under the impression (from forums and personal experience) that P is easier at D/D-, then T and then Z.
Gah. I keep on trying to fix it, but windowed mode doesn't work, and I wanted to stream (so I can get better input, as well as I play SC2 so it would've served to introduce BW to other people like on my SC2 clan/team.....
but it keeps crashing and I'm sad (and fullscreen mode goes derpy on me)
I've even tried to do ddhack and stuff to try to bypass those weirdness (with scfh), but then I can't even log into battle.net correctly/read anything because everything gets all misaligned =___=
I'd be happy to play some BW once in awhile..... once this stupid Windowed mode works =_= qq

In Windows 7, I have luck getting window mode to work with the minilauncher. ICCup launcher is a no go for me.

Thank you. I think I will try playing T and see how it goes. (DisneyZerg is now Terran)

Hey what?
Sometimes I leave coz I need to take a slash, or something happens. Right now I've been working on SKTerran so have been running a bunch of D Come Zerg, so obviously I'm gonna give you the boot if you come in and pick Protoss. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings though lol sorry. T_T
I'm happy to vs you in a melee game, my TvP is better than my TvZ anyway which is why I don't need practise on it right now. Whats your ID?
EDIT: Ok I added dysphoria to my friends list, ill give you a yell if I see you online, sorry about that
I'm also looking for people to practise TvT with because its impossible to find someone who will do that on ladder

Are you using Windows 7 and is your Windows set to auto-update so it's always up to date? Here's what happened to me...
1) Installed Windows 7 a little over a year ago. W-Mode in ICCup worked fine. 2) A few months ago I started getting an RT Error in ICCup w-mode. Minilauncher w-mode still worked. I read on the forums that other Win7 users started getting the error around the same time so I just lived with it. 3) A few days ago I wiped my computer and installed a fresh Win7 cause I like to do that once a year or so. Same install CD as previous. ICCup w-mode works fine now; however, every time I shut it off it has to install updates to eventually get it back up to date. I imagine that when I get to the update that ICCup w-mode doesn't like, I'll have to switch back to minilauncher.
Just made an account: sGsNoah Can't promise that I will play a lot, but I am definitely interested.
Now...I need to figure out which race I want to play xD Might just end up doing random for a while, whenever I play against AI, I never really figured out which race I liked the most.
Yeah it's pretty awesome seeing all the tags. It's also nice to go into op Teamliquid and immediately get asked to play a game from a clan member. (Thanks sGs.Nazza.)

Yeah definitely We should set up some sGs practice session or something this weekend.. You guys down?
Since we seem to have a lot of active members now.. It would be cool if we could get some proper practice games with obs and stuff so we can all get better!
Apparently Iccup only shows the top 50 members (in terms of ratings). I typed in /c list today and there's like 286 of us lol. That's like half the number of active people on Iccup server (iccup usually has 600 ppl online at once).

When on the team page, just click on the Players tab right below where the clan name is displayed and it will show you a full list of members.

Proud to be on that Top 50 haha.
Theres a button at the top of the team page as "Players", you can check everyone there
Is sgs tag necessarry? I just hoped on ICCUP to try BW again (last time played fastest maps only back around 2003) and met some sgs'ers on op teamliquid, who were nice and willing to improve or play practice matches. After going 4-1 I'm so proud of my stats that I don't really want to make new account ^^. Is op teamliquid the place where I can meet most of you, around D level?

there are +5 people on right now, anyone want to practice? I'm T. We can do 1v1 obs so we're all doing something. If we have more than 4 players, then we can just split

people are probably busy with school/work/university
I will try to be more active, but rightnow university, internship and a personal project are taking a lot of my time...
personally atm I'm trying to get better/get my rank at SC2 to like diamond or so before I try to play a new game, but once I do get there, I'll be sure to learn BW more indepth ^o^' for now I'm kinda busy ~_~
I have work midday Saturday, Mountain Standard Time Saturday night or Sunday? I'm leaning towards Sunday, and we need to setup a time. I'm good for most of the day
I signed up, sgs.lossmule. I accidentally sent my first request with my account without the sgs on it. P.S. I regularly go 14cc into bio allin in tvp... Don't rage at me for it
Sunday I think is best, people saying they want in are American? What times I'd say pretty much all day, maybe 1pm wherever and adjust to that, 12-1 pm near east coast and work our way down for "start" time?
Awesome that so many are interested in learning bw again :D I also just joined. sGs.Joefish Unfortunately, I currently only have an hour or two per day to play. University getting kinda stressful and stuff..
If you want to register another ICCUP ID, but don't want to make another email address, and you have a gmail account, then when you register for another ID, put a period anywhere in the gmail account (ex. adfas.asdf@gmail.com) and it will go the the account as if it was another e-mail.
Okay, so as sGs has grown and I have been accepting most everyone off hand we've gotten alot of strong D+/C-/C rank players. While there is nothing wrong with this in and of itself; it creates some problems. Namely, sGs tag is intended to indicate someone who is a likewise a newer player. With too many D+/C- guys its way to easy for a new D- to expect a nice practice game around there skill level only to get face raped by someone vastly better.
The solution is pretty straightforward: people with ranks better than mid D+ use a slightly different tag to indicate they are coaches and not players. Something like C-sGs.<name>.
If anybody has suggestions for what the tag for the coach players should be post em here, I'm open to suggestions.
MTA: On an unrelated note, there is some discussion about creating a "NGV" (next generation veterans) as a smaller, more structured clan for those that have reached solid D+ and beyond and want a more organized group to practice with. Your thoughts there are appreciated as well.
But shouldn't their rank on iCCup be an indicator of how good they are? Unless people haven't played enough games to get back to their own rank. A D- player ought to know that C- player will destroy them regardless of the sGs rank.
(Mind you currently iccup doesn't show me latency or rank on my new computer for some reason.)

I don't really think it's a big problem that more experienced players are joining up. It's great for new players to learn from more experienced people and like it was mentioned, the rank itself I think is a good enough indicator of skill. A more structured practice team for higher level players sounds like a great idea, but that goes for the low level players too! Have new people been complaining about being rolled by C- players though? I'm really confused by this, since I think the new players more than anything need to talk about the game with more experienced players (and of course to play a ton of games) to improve fast. Do we really need to split up sGs into separate clans, or couldn't it be enough to have people agree on practice sessions with players of their skill level?

That would be my concern. On one hand, we don't want extremely new players being rolled in a casual game at unawares because a D+ player decided not to rank up. However, it would be a shame to segregate ourselves too much as I find it tremendously helpful to have higher level players hanging around that can answer questions and give advice. I think back to Storm[pt] the slave driver of practice (joking, we love you, where'd you go?) who was very helpful to to get ideas from.
Not everyone will necessarily commit to being a coach in an official capacity, but the higher ranks might throw out useful morsels every now and then.
Maybe its good to add /help in tips and tricks as well, it gives you all the commands (like whispering to somebody) you need and i dont think the game says it somewhere.
I just got home (and will be here for a while...) so I'm down for some BW while I'm here and can play on ICCUP. Still can't host, but I'll be online when I get the time
I joined some time ago but never got around to playing for a while. Still a bw newbie and I've found some time recently to get back into playing again. sgs.acrylic, I'm probably lower than d-. Kinda hard to find games with people my level Oh and is the skype group still active?
The skype group is most definitely active. I'm on pretty sporadically, but skype always has a giant update with all the comments being said. Of course, not all times of day are equal.
Anyone who is new to the game, or thinks they are too bad to jump on the ladder, feel free to PM me and I would be happy to give you a little beginners tutorial on the race you would like to play.
If anyone wants to help me out with setting up a practice session again sometime, that'd be great! ^^ On winter break, Brood War and Skyrim, if a group of people want to get together with me for the next week and a half or so, I'd appreciate the company <3

Where in Canada are you? (timezone/province)
Mountain/Alberta
Well I'm in BC for the holidays, and then back to Ontario, but feel free to post/PM me whenever you want to play, I'll try to accommodate!
I have applied recently and need the manager to accept me.I want to play some games, I'm sGs.Daft and I'm trying to play BW this Proleague has got me motivated to play.
Im considering to pick up BW, im n1 in my silver league, and i switch between T and random. I want to play the most challenging race to get my mechanics in sc2 even better, i plan to play bw for a few weeks without any sc2 and see if my mechanics is any better. Any tips on what race i should play?

Tips:
- Challenging race at the lower levels: Terran - You will certainly notice how much the mechanics differ from SC2 and BW when you get back to SC2 after playing 1 entire week of pure BW, you will feel faster - Be prepared to lose 90-99% of your games on iCCup until you get a grip on how to play BW - Do not get upset because you cannot win, remember that BW is extremely competitive and challenging and there is no fancy laddering babysitting you to win half of your games - Join op teamliquid for help, sGs players often will play and help each other (I'm sgsfabiano there) - Be aware that a victory in BW feels extremely rewarding - Do not get scared at the hotkeys, it may take a while before you get used to move your hand all the way to 'o' - Play on Fighting Spirit, good standard map - You will need to use all the 10 control groups, here you can't 1a to victory - Save camera position over your production buildings, I use F2 over gateways and F4 to the rally point. No MBS, so you have to click each production individually and set the rally. This way you F2, click on gateway, F4 and 'r' on your rally, repeat for all production buildings
Terran tips from a protoss player perspective:
- Siege tanks and vultures - Abuse mines, plant them at estrategic positions - Make turrets at your natural, you don't want observers spoting your tanks and mines - Make turrets around your base to prevent observers coming in and spoting how many factories you have - When engaging vulture vs dragoons, try to plant mines behind the dragoons so that when they try to escape they melt to the mines

My first race was Terran and it was brutal. I've played Terran for a while back then and when it comes to apm and multi tasking. I was overwhelmed T_T but my buddy showed me Protoss and I learn the ropes from him. Now I mainly play Protoss and BW was fun again :D

Would you recommend Protoss over Terran for a new BW player, ive become a little fan of Bisu and Best after ive seen quite a few matches from ProLeague. Terran in BW dosen't appeal to me the same way as it does in Sc2. I guess I should test all the races myself instead of asking for what race is the best for me. The main point for me in BW is to try something new(old.. lol) and also try to understand the games from ProLeague because it is enteraining, but I dont understand to much.
Will go into Iccup as a part of sGs if i get in and try to become an overall better rts player.

Protoss is DEFINATELY the beginner-friendly race. While Terran takes a good amount of mechanics to become decent at, and Zerg needs good decision making and sense of the game (as well as having some tricky micro to learn with mutas), good macro will get you far with Protoss.

QFT. I started as Terran, very briefly (before I knew actual builds) switched to Protoss, then went back to Terran and never looked back. As a result I am a frustrated little emo b****, crying myself to sleep while millisecond-late sieges and stimming one too many times haunt my dreams.

I used to play Random at D+ level and was Masters level Terran/Protoss in SC2.
Protoss is the most transition friendly race between SC2 and BW. The expansion timings, playstyle, macro is all very similar to SC2. I would suggest playing Protoss it is the most multitasking heavy race.
Terran is a little different, in that it does require good mechanics to play but it is mechanics that you don't really have to think about, therefore becoming a higher APM player as Terran is easier than Protoss.
Protoss you have to micro corsairs, drops, reavers, storms, dragoons, zealots, etc. Once you get D+ as Protoss you will be able to drop like MMA.
Just make sure you play a harass based/multitasking play (Bisu) style rather than a han bang (Best/Jangbi) style.
PvP: 2 gate Reaver, its actually the most stable build, but also nuts multitasking wise. PvZ: Bisu Build(s), make sure to keep controlling your corsairs while doing DT/Storm drops, etc. PvT: 1 Gate Pressure FE (pressure constantly, microing while expanding), Storm drops, etc

Play whatever race you like best. To me Terran is the easiest race, but for most people its not.
Also if you don't think Terran is interesting, just watch UpMagic (labelled neo-Boxer, but was caught in the scandal and banned ).
Damn there's so many builds to choose from on TLPD.. Someone recommended me not to play mirrors yet as Terran, so which would be the best two builds to start from? :O

You should play mirrors as Terran. Just don't be a douche and do 2 port wraith stuff before you've learned the basics like Tank positioning, dropship play, etc. Heaps of D players who can't do shit once a player learns how to make turrets and goliaths.
D players are pretty cheesy so you should Siege expand and get ready to put down an E-bay and armory if you scout starports. Easy win.
I feel that tanks are very noob friendly to those who face against people who are not that good. I think Protoss is noob friendly, but I feel bio for terran is very difficult for the beginner in TVZ.
Woaw, ive played a few matches on Iccup and this game is pretty awesome, but hard, I will play this for 1 week or 2 before i play sc2 again and see if i have learned something. Im sGs.PanDa
Sure, there's a lot of going on in the skype group every day. If anyone is considering picking up BW and joining, I'd say now is the perfect time. The group of people seems pretty stable while not large enough to get lost in it. I haven't had a problem finding a fellow to play with the skype group + op TL.
Please can anyone help me! Everytime i try to go to iccup.com or an iccup related link it keeps redirecting me to 502 Bad Gateway. My internet is fine and every other website loads fine as well. Please help if you know what the problem is!!!! Thank you.
Hey I would like to join because I would like to start playing bw. Ive always love watching bw so I am gonig to star playing and this clan woud be a huge help! But I have a problem my colours are all messed up when i start bw does anyone know how to fix this?

W7 by any chance? This thread might help you (not guaranteed) http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=86258 otherwise try to search for a more specific one / make one yourself. Good luck in solving the issues and I hope you can join us afterwards
My friend asked me about Starcraft lore today. Got me thinking about sc1 and BW that I played around age 4 just messing around in campaign with cheats. Wanted to actually give it a shot and try and play other people. Got a basic gameplan for protoss of of liquipedia and am going to get iccup downloaded when it comes back up, would love to join as soon as I get it working cause I need so much help T_T. Cool to see after so many years that Broodwar is still running strong.
To whomever applied as sGs_Neg. Please reapply! I accidently denied your request and don't know how to overturn it. I sent you a message on ICCup as well but I don't know if you'll read it so hopefully you get the message here.
Hey I am having a hard time finding people to play with. I still have never played broodwar online so I would like to play with people that are completely noobie like me. PM me or add me on iccup at Hudsiando. or if you want to play in sc2 I'm at Hudson.946. broodwar here I come!!
are there any general times that the clan is active? I skimmed through about half of the thread and could find any general hours.also checked a few pages on the site and found no info on that. just curious cause i have some time constraints and want to know if i could actually play with people. i dont mind waiting for games, but at my skill level i have had to wait upwards of an hour and a half in order to play someone.

The team is more active from say 15h to ~00h GMT, from my experience.

Its important to be able to create games in order to find the opponents ur looking for.
Just created the account (sGs.sTaRfaLL). Haven't played BW online in like 2 years, so I'm probably terrible (and I'm mad enough to play Terran ^-^''), but I hope to improve fast. See you all
I got bored with sc2 and have decided to return to bw on a recreational basis. Requesting to join on ICCUP now! B rank high (protoss lolz) a while back, but haven't played bw more than once in a while since sc2 came out. Would be happy to help the newer players a bit, and get stomped vs. the dude who is B+

I have encountered a few such players, they don't usually last long though. You should still be able to find a suitable opponent. Although there's just a few D/D-/E players, a lot of the players achieve that level by switching races. So long as you find a few friends you should be just fine.

Hi guys, I will apply to your clan and would love if someone could teach me the basics... I have played a few games of broodwar but its not like i can beat anything or do anything I have like 120-150 apm (sc2) so i guess it won't be so hard to compete at the lowest level? E or something :D?
I'm now D+ and want to join sGs clan to get more pratice tranning . Just created my new acc sGs.ThinkPad and joined team on iccup , but not accepted . Should i send some PM to team leader or get some test game to be come a member of sGs ?
You don't need to prove yourself in any way, just wait for someone to manually accept your application. If it's taking long, you can send a PM to L_Master.
anyone up for some games? been sitting in op teamliquid past two days and haven't seen many people around. I'm like D rank right now. Message me for some games sgs.chair or bananacarrier
I'm hoping halfway through summer my hands will have healed up to play again It's been 2 months since I've played due to some bad keyboard posture- ironically not from playing starcraft (stupid wasd games/ school) It's been a looong 2 months.

Feel free to contact me on ICCUP... sh4w, or PM me here on TL if you need help getting started. Anyone else is free to as well, I know how hard it can be to get started.
I just started ICCup a few days ago, losing all but one TvZ (and i honestly have no idea how the fuck i won). Ill def send my request in today. I am at D because of the lack of games played but i have no idea what to do in each of the match ups so i will need quite a bit of help. I really only know what to do in TvZ (i like SK Terran) but i float minerals because i dont know when to get the academy and starport ect.
After playing a few games i am finally at D- ! lol
Anyone willing to help a complete noob who has no understanding of the game other than liquidpedia please ad me. I am Shosty on ICCup.
I want to join this clan but I don't want to create a new account with "sgs" again I used my old account today and managed to go 7-3 :o (Amazing IMO) What to do :s

If you don't mind playing against someone who has no idea what they are doing i would not mind at all practicing with you.
I'm Sadistik on ICCup so add me and pm me if you wanna practice. I always have BW open while im on other games.
Hi, would love to find a group of bw players to hang with and improve, i'm on evening gmt time most nights. Have not played an online match yet, barely into the campaign actually :-).

This guy is vacuum tube computer rank.
Stop lying, knowing how to make dts actually automatically puts you somewhere between A- and MSL winner + Show Spoiler +
Hi guys. I'm a long time BW player (10y) and I play very casually nowadays (I'm D+, maybe C- if I'm really sharp). I find the idea of having a strong low-lvl BW community very interesting. I'll have a look at your clan page.
Current ICCUP ID is the same as my screenname on TL
Just downgraded my comp to a cute little netbook, but can't run sc2 any more! Been playing BW vs. comp (and winning, thankfully), and finding it great fun, heavily micro-ing my units in a battle is a totally new dimension for me.
I'm only going to be playing sparingly, but it would be nice to have some practice partners, or just someone to show me the common wall-ins etc? When I used to play a game or two a day in sc2 I was platinum, if that gives you any idea of my general aptitude.
Just made an account sGsChobo. Looking to have some fun with Terran. I never played BW before, watched less than a dozen proleague games. Gold league Terran in sc2. should be fun aye?

PM LMaster to get into skype group if you haven't. It's the most convenient way to get games

And Sayle as well. He casts those games, so I trust him on the correlation of dts and skill

Since Lmaster isn't always around, maybe try adding me @ skype.. sgs.stratos (or just pm me your skype name), I'll try to add you/anyone else in or forward the request to someone who can. There are no sGs-only tournaments at the moment, and you don't need to be part of the team to have sGs in your name, but the most useful aspect of sGs in my opinion is having the entire clan list when you're logged on. Make an sGs name first and then apply. There is no reason for you to not be accepted, the person in charge is probably just inactive at the moment. I would send a PM to the OP.
Btw, when you do get accepted, do /c o to see if people are online and /c m to send a clan message like "/c m practice game anyone?"

tyty for the reply! by mkaing an sGs name, do you mean on Iccup on the site, or on broodwar?

The first option. Just make an sGs.Monsyphon account on iccup and apply to join the team here http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/teams/27072.html Someone will have to accept your application and then you're good to go.
If you want to join the skype group just pm me your skype id or add me (sgs.stratos) so I can invite you in.
All the awesome amateur and foreign BW coverage has inspired me to get back into the game! I'm really rusty now compared to my peak, though. I had a lot of fun playing for Michigan back when the CSL was still BW, and I'd love to get active with other players rather than just laddering against strangers. I don't have a mic at the moment but I'll get set up as soon as I can.

awesome to hear that. I did enjoy reading your blogs about your bw experience.
D- protoss/terran (willing to play as Z though) looking for games and practice partners that. Add me on here and Iccup, my ID on there is sGs.mathew1942. I usually pop on daily to look for fellow low level players anytime from 9am central US time to 2am, pretty free schedule at the moment.
Add me on skype for the group thing everyones talking about, my skype name is mathew_1942, would be really great to find more D- people to play with, were a rare breed. TT
I was a former B- Terran/B Protoss player a very long time ago, probably now around C- with random. I'm nrg.bamboo on skype, so you can add me if you want. I'm comfortable with playing bo3-bo11s with anyone willing. I'm quite good mannered and will always theorycraft with anyone who wants to. I'm just incredibly rusty so you shouldn't expect much from me.
Wow, my mechanics and decisionmaking are absolutely terrible right now... but I'm quickly remembering why I spent so many hours playing and watching this game. I'm currently barely keeping my head at D level, but I'm sure I can get back to D+ fairly quickly. Hoping to see more of y'all online! (perhaps being in the Skype group would help, but thus far I've only seen L_master. Maybe it's the time zone)
Add me as well. I am D- Zerg, learning Terran ATM looking mainly for TvP and ZvP practice games, focusing on macro and map control skills. Iccup ID sGs.shaggles, will be there most evenings (CET), from 9PM until I fall asleep

Hey guys, I just made an account to join this clan! I'm sGs.Fazek on Iccup, can somebody add me to the Skype group as well? Stratos, is it okay if I add you too?
I think, naturally, people like to avoid mirror matches until they got the other 2 down. At least thats how it is for me. Yeah TvP sucks but what are we gonna do? Only play TvZ? Switch race?
Hi everybody. I've been playing the original Starcraft since it first came out. I've played casual multiplayer with my friends but I've never gotten into competitive gaming because of how immature things can get when playing with random people on the Internet. I'm looking for people I can play with regularly so we can all improve our skills. One of my big goals is to get a good replay recorded on all of the official Blizzard maps. I've just joined sGs as sGs.Sailor. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone online!

They gotta make this a little easier no? So I'm supposed to PM somebody named Stratos to get in the skype group...? Whatever I'll just post here add me (Frank_desu) should be fun
Just signed up as sGs.Negative. I know nothing about how to play bw (or the maps for that matter) 1v1 but it should be fun to try and learn how to play terran. My skype is peterursick glhf?
Hi. Can I join this team? I just started playing this game and would like to play with people that don't yell at me for losing team games TT. All I have to do is create an iccup account with sgs in front? My iccup name is miss.click.. I also stream my games on www.twitch.tv so people can give me tips.
Since we're really getting a lot of people in our skype group and it lags with all those messages would it be a better idea if we just used irc? I suggest using Quakenet since #teamliquid #teamliquidbw are also on it and the teamliquid page has an embedded webchat for quakenet as well.
I just requested to join as sGs.N0vaLife. I'm pretty bad, a D/oftentimes dipping into D- Terran. I can join the skype group too but, honestly, I'm not too certain how often I'll be able to get in on the skype convos. Mainly, I'm looking for other friendly low-level players to hit up some games with. (because finding games on iccup is a bitch and a half)

Lol. Just realized you are also the guy who was online yesterday who thought he could play 1v1 BW without even playing once against computer or campaign. Hi ignorance! Nice QQ into ragequit buildorder btw, even after everyone provided you with what you wanted.
HEY EVERYONE:
Look out for a guy in the skype group "Wyatt Visser" and on ICCup "Faent," he's pretty lazy and acts like everyone should do everything for him while he doesn't need to learn how to play the game or use the search function.
Lol. Just realized you are also the guy who was online yesterday who thought he could play 1v1 BW without even playing once against computer or campaign.
I played some games against that guy, and I had a lot of fun. So you can stuff it

Hi i been trying to contact someone on sGs im interested in hoping in to sGs and the skype group aswell my skype id: yorkid1 and iccup : QzL.SeCReT i made transition to bw a couple of days ago
I decided that its time to dump other games and settle down to Starcraft. But I am a sucker so tutoring would be wonderful. If it works out, I'm online from 19.00 CET onwards.
I am a rather old school BW player, who hasn't played BW for a very long time now. I want to try playing again, though, and see if I might play consistently again. If you guys would be willing to help me out, it'd be great.
I'm assuming we can just play with the clan players without actually joining, right? Just to test the waters and see if it'll be a consistent thing whether or not we continue.

We're active in the skype group, it's possible that just none of the leaders loaded the iccup page lately. or missed it, or misclicked or whatever. Whichever it is, the best way to find out is to join the skype group add sgs.stratos @skype and I can invite you in.

If you're gonna play T take it from me, learn to macro before you worry about all the fancy micro you can do with Terran units, they're easily the most unforgiving when it comes to missing macro
Question for every BWer that uses battlenet. I am contemplating on buying the battlechest to get back on battle net, is it worth it? I am not sure if it is because on iccup, the population seems pretty dead. Anyone that gives information on # of users usually online/active on battlenet would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone on this site!!

I do not think it's worth it if you are going to be playing on West, I think that is the least active amongst the other servers (East, Asia, etc)
I don't know how the ranking system works, but should freshies be playing with the D level? By freshie I mean I just beat campaign and I don't know what any of the iccup maps look like D:

just get used to a few maps to start, like fighting spirit, destination, python, the ones you see people playing on all the time. then feel free to just create a game with noob in the title. A lot of time people who are not noobs will join in, but just treat that as a gauge of current skill, take your losses and keep playing!! also, hop on the teamliquid channel and just ask people for a game, most are nice :D

That's what I would do, takes like 2 seconds on iccup

Make a new account with the desired username and then transfer the stats to it from your old account.
Just type the command "/transfer [new account name]" on your old account This will transfer the stats to the new account clearing them from the current one. Stats can be transferred every 15 days afaik.
Hello everyone. I will take over adding people to the sGs group. What you have to do is add me on Skype, my name there is "Korean Grandma" (without the quotation marks). In your message please specify that you want to be added to the sGs group.
If you have any issues, feel free to PM me your Skype name on TL and I will add you first.
so who can accept people into the team on iccup? my old account got deleted, but I re-made it and applied a couple of days ago (sgs.fl0i). tsl made me return to the bw hype :D
Sounds pretty interesting, I did try out BW again few months ago, but getting fair matches against new players wasn't easy at all, so I continued with SC2, but I'd really like to learn some BW so this is a very nice opportunity! Thank you for your efforts and hopefully see you around for some games and teaching me how to wall off properly

I don't think I've ever played a 1v1 match for points against a fellow sGs unless they hosted the game for public laddering and I just happened to join xD I think most sGs have the same experience. I definitely agree that it's more of a community - great for finding games and practice partners at the D/low C ranks, no doubt.
I added Korean Grandma on Skype but I'm not part of a group. Did I do everything right? My iccup is: sGs.Depression. Now that I think about it I'm not sure how to tell if I'm in the group at all. Where should I be checking?

It should pop up once there is activity in the group after I've added you. Of course you have to realize that I'm not on Skype or my computer 24/7, so delays between adding me and being added to the group are possible.
Sorry, I didn't mean to hurry you. I was confused because you added me on Skype but I didn't see the group so I thought it might not have worked. Everything seems to be in order now though.
If you could just add me that would make things much easier for me, I do them en masse so I see all my recent requests at once and put them in the group at once (because I don't have Skype running all the time, because I have a shitty PC, and I'm busy nowadays).

Added you a few days ago, not sure if SGS is still active or not but looking to come back to BW after a few years break and could certainly use the help.
Hey I just made a ID sgs.Muliat in iccup and sent request to join team .. Wating for someone in charge to accept it. I want to play alot of games and its been hard find ppl to play a bunch of games in a row...
Could I be added to the skype group? My skype name is stekt_johan I did message "Korean Grandma" on skype but he hasn't answered yet, and I do believe anyone can add people to a skype convo. Thanks
yeah, it's looking like it is pretty much dead. was going to join up, but now.. not so sure. not a lot of point joining a group that exists only in skype(I hate skype btw), no recent clan activity I'm sad to say(iccup or clan site). might be time to start a new group or join another instead. . .Just got a broadband connection at home, and was considering doing some online matches too(I play over L.A.N. a lot). I might check around though and see if any new groups have opened up on iCCup. disliking that there isn't a mac(PPC/intel/universal) launcher for the iCCup servers though.
what's wrong the skype? voice chat is great for getting to know others and keeping in touch. i just feel like sgs doesnt really do much for new players

well, you don't like using skype and play with a mac, then complain that there's nothing for you. Talk about self-entitlement

As for Brood War on MacOSX, give a try for winebottle software. If the game itself works using this method, iCCup launcher should work as well. But yeah, skype is indeed a real evil in the world, establishing monopoly in communications.
@AleXoundOS sadly wine/winebottler is intel-mac only, as is bootcamp and parallels(otherwise I'd have nothing to complain about ). thanks anyway though. ------------------------ @Golgotha on paper, I have nothing against the idea of skype..I just feel it poorly imitates better products(freeware at that) that have existed for decades and expects to be paid for it. Did they ever get offline messaging working properly on it or do both the sender and recipient need to be online at the same time still for it to go through? I'm stuck with old versions, because I'm on a powerpc based eMac. Anyhow, I guess, I just prefer the old MSN(even google-talk didn't annoy me) messenger service. that said I do have a skype account under the same username, I've just never needed to use it. I only made the skype account because MS is shutting down the messenger services soon, and is shooing everyone over there. I do agree on the point of voice chat in general being good for getting to know people/keeping in touch though. Well, with sgs not being all that active, I can see why you'd think they're not doing much for new players. have any suggestions then if the group itself really is gone? ----------------------
try not to judge to harshly, the original post was made late at night, and was very frustrated . my laptop got toasted over a year ago and I've not been able to replace it, so I've been stuck using my mac all this time, lol. got a great price for it though($5.25 @ salvation army) it's a 2006(ironically the same year apple cut support for it I believe) 1.25ghz G4 powerpc single core, with 2GB of ram running osx 10.5.8. it's not terrible, it's just unsupported by a lot of things is all. at any rate, Korean Grandma seems MIA. sent my message about a month ago now I think.
sGs exists now as the Skype group as you pretty much alluded to. The clan basically went by the wayside as no one really made use of it, and many of us officers either went activer or didn't check ICCup site often.
I'm not sure what advantage the ICC clan serves over the skype group. /c l is basically the same thing as asking in Skype "anyone go game"?
So in other words, sGs is still pretty active (though there is plenty of off-topic chatter).
.I just feel it poorly imitates better products(freeware at that) that have existed for decades and expects to be paid for it.
Skype is free....
Do agree that there are better options available, but the BW community largely uses skype, and it gets to be a pain if you have to check 2,3, 4+ different IM clients.
Did they ever get offline messaging working properly on it or do both the sender and recipient need to be online at the same time still for it to go through?
They both have to be online. This is solved quite nicely though be just never going offline and setting skype to Do Not Disturb so you don't get annoying notifications.
i just feel like sgs doesnt really do much for new players
Depends on what you mean by doing much for new players. I think it still accomplishes the stated goals in that it gives new players to practice with, has experienced players available for feedback and advices, and provides a nice, social atmosphere for BW.
If you expect it to do more than that for newer players then I'd say you're correct in that it does not...but then again it was never intended to.

actually of all IM clients, skypes is the one of most quiet(sometimes too quiet), so it's not really about that. It's more of the "I don't like to leave my IM clients(I only have 2 btw) open, or have my computer on constantly", type situation.
the calling feature(okay, so it's probably one of the least useful as well) is not free, and honestly that is it's best feature(considering that's all it was originally made for it's not a surprise). heck it wasn't that long ago that it was it's only feature, alongside video chat I think; the IM part of it came long after. it's come a long way though...probably farther then I know considering I'm using v2.8(last version to support the PPC platform) atm. anyhow it doesn't really matter much, since I've no intention of using it for more then an IM client .
But yeah, I can kind of understand why have the skype group too, but somehow I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't be easier to organize events on the clan site(be it the iccup's site or the actual website forums). Especially since you know, not everyone can/will be on at the same time frame with skype. Less chance of missing PMs and what-not. probably my only real legitimate complaint honestly.
The clan isn't an active entity anymore, although quite a few members still play BW on the sGs tag, the Skype group is still available though, if you PM me your Skype I'll add you to it.
On December 17 2014 23:07 [PAPPA] wrote: Is this clan still active? I'm looking for a low lvl clan i can join
There is a few people that still play with the sGs. tag on Iccup. I'm one of them. I'd join the clan and if you have any questions just send a message out to watch a replay with you or play some games and give you a few tips.
I'm sGs.Yaqoob on ICCup. I play Protoss but can help out with low level Terran/Zerg (D-/D/D+)
I'd really love to be pointed in the correct direction to begin playing brood war. I'm masters in sc2, I know that means nothing in bw, but some of my ability has to transfer right?

I've made an sGs acc on iccup and requested to join the group, but nothing has happened yet.
Anyways, pm me please, thanks!
Well, to support that, I made a sort of return to iccup (less work, more time) being idle for almost a year, however my usual /c o reveals mostly no one during "European" time. Later in the night, there are single (US-based?) clan members. That is making me somewhat curious if we are still in existence.
