It requires much greater mechanical skills since Brood War doesn't provide the convenience of the auto-mining and multiple-building select and among other things. In terms of strategy innovation and adapting build orders so that you win is still about the same. Brood War is really great at taking your dexterity to a whole new level.

I remember Brood War as an experience. As an achievement. As a way of life. And more importantly, I remember Brood War as a game I could truly call "mine". Thank you Blizzard, thank you Korea. I owe you both. <3

More serious note seeing games where it was so so close and games where both players just put out high level games was great entertainment. Finals were a great event always. People staying up way late and chatting on vent watching those epic Bo5s are something I won't forget. And of course seeing KT take back the crown.

it was shortly after TSL1 I was determined not too lose in the first round and bring shame to my household. I stayed up all night practicng my 4 pool. Seriously, i did this. I finally saw the brackets, i pushed my way through the crowd if 16 or so nerds, (and one girl!) with glee to gander at them. Then there i saw it, my name was across from none of then JF. My dreams were shattered. Just a few short months ago i had sat on the edge of my seat watching him play draco in the finals. full of mixed emotions, knowing i didnt have a chance i opened with a 12 hatch on python. I got killed by a 2 gate rush and gg'd with 2 zealots and 2 probes in my natural, totally out micro'd. The next game i choose tau cross, and i got to use that 4 pool i practiced so hard. Practice didn't pay off, his scouting probes killed my remaining drones as i frantically tried to kill him before the cannon got up in his mineral line. Shortly after this i gg'd out. Shock his hand, and that was my brush with BW fame. After that i got to play many games and made great friends. if you ever have the chance, go to a LAN. Even if you dont know anyone there, its always ALWAYS a good time. times like this, are why i love brood war, and it will forever be a part of me.

During college, I started really getting into the pro scene, and I dragged my best friend into it and he fell in love with it too. We always competed on who was the best english caster, he would always say Husky and I would say that everyone on Violetak (Diggity, Moletrap, Rise, Cholera, Klazart). I took a goal for myself and that was to be able to get a game on Violetak and be a commentator, and I'll keep that goal, hopefully it'll happen soon. I love Brood War. I knew I would love Brood War even when Starcraft 2 came out, just because Brood War brought me closer to my best friend, it brought me closer to so many people and the Teamliquid Brood War community, in my opinion, is the best, and I mean THE BEST community I have ever been a part of. Better than League of Legends, Kings of Chaos, Starcraft 2. Again, that is my opinion. I remember asking on streams about what to do since I was so new, and I never got a "lol noob" or anything like that. I love seeing the massive crowds that Brood War still pulls in. I love the over 5000 viewers during a final match. I love this game because it's the game that is closest to my heart. I wouldn't stay awake until 530am for a finals, or 2am for a match with not even my favorite teams. I promise I'll be casting when I have the time. But nothing is like Starcraft Brood War. We're all trying to get better, but even after 15 years, we're still not good enough.

I love Brood War, since my dad's coworker gave him Vanilla SC, and I got it for my third birthday. Back in '98 I miss using cheats and stuff in campaign. Then my dad told me all about the Koreans playing in real StarCraft tournaments, how they dedicated themselves. I thought it would've been fun back then. We'd watch The Four Kings, dominate and go. Boxer building SKT T1 up from the ground. The Legend of the Fall. NaDa's domination. My dad eventually fell out of it, as did I for awhile. I got back in touch a little bit earlier then I'd joined TL.net Around summer of 2008, I started to watch all those people on VioleTak, mostly Moletrap <3 Since then it's been on and off, and since finding Teamliquid I've caught up on alot of things and I will always support Brood War. Even my girlfriend converted since OSL finals, and ProLeauge Grand Finals <3

I've put so much time into this game over the past 13+ years, be it abusing Power Overwhelming to lolrape 7 computers, or failing miserably over and over on Iccup. Even now, when I don't have as much time available and have seemingly "fallen out" of the Brood War loop, watching the Proleague finals was still just as exhilarating as it always has been. I discovered the pro-scene in 2008, and I immediately fell in headfirst, staying up for any matches I could. I remember begging my parents to let me stay up until the wee hours of the morning on weekends to watch Proleague or OSL/MSL during the school year. When they went away for a weekend that summer - the weekend that happened to be PL playoffs and MSL finals - I binged on pro StarCraft all weekend, watching every match live on my shitty internet connection. It's brought me joy, it's brought me heartache. It's brought me utter embarrassment. But most of all, Brood War has given me more entertainment than I could have ever asked for. Carry on, old friend.
