First spoiler contains background information on the situation, why MBCGame Korean eSports Broadcasting Company is so important, and how if it goes under it will really hurt Starcraft 2 as well as Starcraft Brood War.
MBCGame is a Korean Television Broadcasting company that specializes in eSports; it runs major leagues for multiple games and most importantly it is one of the two pillars of Professional Starcraft Brood War, as for the past decade it has run the second largest individual Starcraft league (the MSL) and has it's own Starcraft Progaming team, MBCGame Heroes. This company has always been a super solid purveyor of eSports, especially with all their unique side-shows. Did you know the first time people you may know as "MarineKingPrime" and "oGsMC" reached the public eye, was when they were unknown members of MBCGame's Progaming team but they were featured in a television show MBCGame hosted about becoming a Progamer? It's undeniable, MKP and MC would be no where as good as they are now without having been previously trained in such a professional environment.
The problem is that according to MBC the parent company of MBCGame, MBCGame is most likely getting shut down, as the company that owns it wants to turn it into a popular music broadcasting company.
That means no more MBCGame, no more awesome shows that are regularly aired on Korean TV supporting eSports in the public eye (especially to kids who watch a lot of TV), no more MBCGame Heroes (which among others discovered and trained current Starcraft 2 superstars), and a major blow to eSports in general (no MSL, half of Proleague gone etc.).

Korea is undeniably the world capital of eSports, they were the first to start having computer games played on a professional level, and they are the guiding light for any other place that wants to follow suit. How will this look if eSports can't even last for 10 years before having to declare bankruptcy? No one will want that for their future.
Stacraft Brood War is the predecessor to Starcraft 2, not just for the story and the game series, but because SC:BW has the infrastructure and the public acceptance that makes it legitimate in the public eye. SC:BW and MBCGame laid the foundation for eSports as we know it today by promoting computer games as a valid occupation and career. That foundation is the main reason Starcraft 2 already has such a strong professional following (it took 3-4 years for SC:BW teams to really get going, look how easy it was for SC2 with that precedent).
SC:BW and MBC in general are constantly getting more and more young people interested in eSports: SC:BW is so ingrained in the mind of the average Korean youth today that it is literally part of the collective national identity. Young people grow up with eSports, and that makes them want to become progamers themselves. With so much of that TV Broadcasting infrastructure the next generation of progamers probably won't exist.

Korea is still the world's spawning pool for the best of the best starcraft players. If TV stations, prestigious tournaments like the MSL, and eventually sponsors start to phase out Brood War from signifigance, it's only a matter of time before a number of pro gaming teams and players are out of a job. Yes. Some of them WILL go to SCII if that happens. That's a probability. But if we're looking at this from a long term perspective, Korea will cease to be the world wide power in starcraft. That means no more MCs (iron), no more Nesteas (zergbong), no more Puma/Gentlemens, no more Losiras, no more Bombers (fancy), no more MarineKings (clare) no more Nadas, no more Julys, no more YellOws, no more BoxeRs.
The mere existance of good Korean players, and good Korean players from BW ensures that the skill ceiling for SCII is incredibly high. It ensures that nobody has to watch crappy players (TN snip) in tournaments when Thorzain and Naniwa aspire to compete with the Koreans. If there's no incentive for skilled players in Korea to join professional gaming, the entire scene as a whole will suffer.
Don't be stupid and think that this doesn't effect you. (TN we're all in this together, BW, SC2, whatever) If you truly truly care, you'll try and understand, and hopefully, help.

I'd argue it would be time better spent pushing SC2 "for esports", rather than trying to pressure MBC into pursuing an unprofitable venture that will if anything detract investors from esports.
What you don't get is that SC2 is tiny in Korea, it isn't taking off at all, and if MBC were to broadcast SC2 at some point if ever then that would be helpfull for SC2 in Korea. Without MBC there is no good venue for either BW, SC2, Special forces etc to broadcast.

The two big single leagues Brood War has are OSL (Ongame net StarLeague) and MSL (Mbc StarLeague). There was another single league run by GomTV but it died some time ago (because of KeSPA reasons and things that are not relevant). There are also some off-season single leagues now and then, but those are minor in the grand scheme of things.
The team league (what we call Proleague) is run by both channels together MBC and OGN. There's 2 matches a night, one on each channel. Finals are on both channels at the same time.
These news are important because MBC Game is a channel dedicated to video games. Besides the Brood War main shows (MSL, Proleague), MBC also has other shows like MBC Hero Attack (where TL Attack got the idea from), some shows were commentators play with players, an 'amateur' Brood War league etc.
Besides that MBC hosts shows on other games like Tekken Crash (fighting game), Special Forces (Counter-Strike korean clone) and if I remember correctly other online games like Kart Rider (mario kart online basically).
This means that if MBC is gone, first part of the infrastructure could be gone or re-conditioned for the Kpop music channel. They own a studio where the matches are played.
Commentators could lose their job and people who work here. Some of the people could still work for the music channel I guess: camera guys, lighting, make-up, directors, etc.
The name would be gone. MSL exists because beside the infrastructure it holds prestige, they have a relationship with KeSPA and teams (Gom league had the cash, but didn't have this). They also have a strong name, which lets them negotiate with big sponsors.
So, I don't want to blow this out of proportion, because no news are final yet. But MBC Game closing down (or switching to another thing) would be pretty big for BW and pretty big for any niche Esports in Korea.

The "MBCGame to shut down" thread as more than 65k views at the time of writing, within a space of 7 hours. That's a lot of people, commotion and action. Now what if our concerns were voiced beyond our own site?

Thing is, I despise Twitter, I can't read/speak Korean, and I don't know how to contact any appropriate people (Coaches, Players, even people with connections like SDM), but we all need help of some kind.
However if we are to have a mass reaction, above all else we need to be supportive, civil and respectful. We can't come off as threatening and abrasive, rather, concerned and caring. I speak no Korean so it'd be nice if we could just have the same, sanctioned, message to copy-paste (if loads of people do it, we need permission from TL first before we start spamming links to where we all came from).
Help make the MBCGame a reality, instead of thinking it's already history.
I quite like the idea of having the entire BW General Sub-Forum filled with threads starting with "MBCGame"; you know something's going down. Oh the irony, "Savior plays BW games" is also up there, but no one would know him without MBCGame.

What are you even going to accomplish with this thread other than spam people who are already in favor of MBCGame not closing?
International fans do not factor into the earnings of MBCGame as a channel. They don't make money off of us.
-Players/staff associated with BW are already going to want MBCGame to stay, so messages to them are just spam. -Generic "save MBCGame" messages will consist of 99%+ people that are not MBCGame customers, so no matter how big an outpouring you get, it will just be ignored because it's essentially meaningless. As heatwarming as it might be to know there are people who still care, at the end of the day what matters for a company is earning money and international fans simply don't earn them money.

Well more that I don't give a rat's ass about those sports really, but I do care about E-Sports and SC:BW; it's the 'sport' I'm into and passionate about, just like people are for the ones in the SS. I'm poking at the irony of how most people who would rely on those types of news reports wouldn't even call what I follow 'sports', but it sure is, and I'm gonna do all I can to support it.

So even though I'm one of the guys that joined the wonderful STARCRAFT community during sc2's beta, I made a twitter account (there haveing been many worthy occasions to do so before, which I was able to resist) just to get our message out there to MBCGame. Sadly I haven't followed BW for over ten years (I'm 100% sure that if I had known about it, I would have) like many amongst us did, which makes it fairly hard for me to get into BW. It really is a different game from SC2 and trying to figure things out about it wihtough actually playing the game is kinda hard, so I don't have the same enthusiasm for BW as for its successor (not meaning that sc2 did or should in any way overtake BW!).
But I'm enthusiastic about STARCRAFT and this is why I'm willing tweet MBC every hour if it's necessary. To me, and I'm not an expert on this, MBCGame and OnGameNet alike represent STARCRAFT in patricular and ESPORTS in general, and to see one of those icons would be heartbreaking. I might be (kind of) new here, but I'm in it with all my heart!
And they are so much more, for me MBC also represents the hope that one day, in the not so distant future, I will be able to attend a live tournament with a decent prizepool and watchworthy players in my little country which (globally speaking) noone cares about. Maybe I will even be able to watch Starcraft on TV with my kids, who knows? But definately not if one of the only two working channels shuts down.
I will tell everyone I know that has a relation to starcraft about this, we cannot let this happen.
PS: I know SC2 in Korea is not taking off like everywhere else, but is it really a wise decision to shut down the network in a time like this, where esports is blowing up almost globally? I am not familiar with the intricacies of their situation of course, but it just doesn't seem like a good decision to me

Yeah, I doubt voicing our opinions when we don't make them any money is going to change some exec's opinion.
Maybe from here on out they can create an english VOD site that runs ads or something. Start holding content from the next MSL and forward, that way we don't lose Nevake - which has tons of old VODs - and they can find ways to be profittable off of Foreign fans.
I have ALWAYS agreed giving money to something I support, so paying for VODs or running streams with ads or something would be something I definitely would be up for.

What worries me is that MGame doesn't just broadcast BW, there are several other competitive games and other game related content on their channel. They also run a Special Force team in addition to the BW team. It is really going to damage esports if they're allowed to go through with this and noone else takes over the running of the channel.

Indeed and i made my own conclusion that it also means that he would support it. Why wouldn't he 'support' it if he still loves the game? But not a big of a deal, everyone knows that after years of playing and watching the games, the experience and love doesn't just fade away when another game comes and replaces it.

It's actually quite easy: You have a small field where you can type something, right beneath the "What's happening" there you can "tweet" something with 140 characters (url's are automatically shortened)

I tweeted it. As a rabid Sc2 fan and a casual BW fan, I feel it's my duty to help in any way I can. I kinda played BW for ten years, I don't want it to go away.
I know that MBC game is important to E-Sports in general, but it is a little dis-ingenuous for me to trick them into thinking I will be watching it (I wont, I havent really gotten into bw at all), they may continue broadcasting MBC game for a little longer, but it might have even harder effects on the company itself (taking more of a loss).
Anyways, I hope it survives because it's obviously very important, but I can't justify creating fake interest that could hurt the company.

the loss of a major esports outlet like MBC game removes esports from the public eye a little more, and influences less people to take up starcraft in general (1 or 2), and therefore less pro-gamers. As well, the loss of something like MBC game can de-legitimize esports in general because many could start to see it as a less stable thing than it used to be, with channels folding etc.
Things like MBC game create pro-gamers, and pro gamers play games, that improves esports because you have more talent/variety of people, as well as increases level of play potentially in their game, or any game they switch to. Don't forget that many SC2 progamers are SC1 pro gamers that switched. I expect many retired SC1 pro gamers may make the switch to SC2, so the potential for more skill in both scenes is good.

Regarding SC2, people were talking about how SC2 can be taken to a bigger stage now that the Kespa-Blizzard conflict has been resolved. But how will that be possible when a big part of the infrastructure for esports broadcasting in Korea is wiped out if MBCGame is dissolved? OGN only will the only major esports channel left.

Yes. Some of them WILL go to SCII if that happens. That's a probability. But if we're looking at this from a long term perspective, Korea will cease to be the world wide power in starcraft. That means no more MCs (iron), no more Nesteas (zergbong), no more Puma/Gentlemens, no more Losiras, no more Bombers (fancy), no more MarineKings (clare) no more Nadas, no more Julys, no more YellOws, no more BoxeRs.
The mere existance of good Korean players, and good Korean players from BW ensures that the skill ceiling for SCII is incredibly high. It ensures that nobody has to watch crappy players like CatZ in tournaments when Thorzain and Naniwa aspire to compete with the Koreans. If there's no incentive for skilled players in Korea to join professional gaming, the entire scene as a whole will suffer.
Don't be stupid and think that this doesn't effect you. If you truly truly care, you'll try and understand, and hopefully, help.
One more thing then, it would also be great if we could have a message in Korean written for us that we can also post (for us that don't read it, yet).

Somebody should repost this in the sc2 forum, considering this effects all of esports and I'm sure theres a decent portion of people there who do actually watch bw but just dont follow this forum very often.

If you think this is pointless, why are you here? Honestly, and no this isn't some "Starcraft 2 symptom." If you cared for whatever the hell this "ESPORTS" craze is, you'd be trying, like the rest of us. TRYING; To save MBC Game, Brood War, and 'Esports'. Pushing for them to try and keep it, would be a lot better than to sit on our asses and not care about it. We're pushing to keep MBC there, in order to keep a strong influx of players and audience. To keep Brood War at it's fullest;; because we care about it, and its a huge part of us here in our little corner of TL, and our lives. If you're from Starcraft 2, and are thinking: "SC2 is my sport" Or "BW Dying! SC2!" Then I'd like you to take a moment to think about how Brood War is keeping Korean's intrested in Esports, and Starcraft 2 is not as popluar yet in Korea, should the day come, and Esports is long forgotten, where will all of the new Nestea's, MC's, MarineKing's come from? There won't be any legends to come over, like Boxer, NaDa, July or even B teamers. And the skill level from Brood War players switching over, helps keep the skill ceiling high, and so the foreigners try to keep up to that rising ceiling. We're trying our best, of what we can do, hell I'm in a Holiday Inn somewhere right now, and I'm trying to Support Brood War.

Remember that MBC is an eSports channel which broadcast many types of games. Its not only a BW channel. If you really love eSports you would support MBCgame. For all I care they could be streaming Starcraft 2 two years from now when GOMTV license thingy expire or they we're given permission to stream.
And even if this won't change anything I would rather try to do something than just let this moment pass.

If they cancel MBCGame in spite of Broodwar, than pushing SC2 will not convince them. MBCGame closing only hurts SC2, and Esports, because it's not a pure BW only channel. If SC2 ever wants to grow from more than a popular internet stream, then it will need legitimately channels on TV for it to be watched on, one of which is MBCGame.

What you don't get is that SC2 is tiny in Korea, it isn't taking off at all, and if MBC were to broadcast SC2 at some point if ever then that would be helpfull for SC2 in Korea. Without MBC there is no good venue for either BW, SC2, Special forces etc to broadcast.

International fans do not factor into the earnings of MBCGame as a channel. They don't make money off of us.

You are foreigner fans so you watch restreams of BW and not the actual channel. How will foreigner tweets convince MBCGame since they don't count as viewers therefore they don't generate revenue?
I understand Korean fans tweeting thou, and I think it's a great initiative, although I came here due to Starcraft 2 I don't want THE E-SPORT to lose one of its pillars.

The source streams are (as far as I understand) freely available, so as long as OGN and MBC provide free streams, they should mainly be happy about getting more ad views for free. Of course, the fact that various restreamers show K-pop during the ad breaks is a bit dubious morally (not to mention aesthetically).

An update on what Korean fans have started doing. Since this evening they started posting their objections in mass numbers on MBC main company's website. Already 16 pages and counting.

Because any support helps in some way, even if it's not a tangible one. Maybe they MBC will understand that they have foreign fans out there. Maybe our support coupled with the Korean Fans' support will be able to push it over the edge.
Just because we don't know exactly how it will help doesn't mean it won't or can't help at all.
The only thing we DO know for sure is that we will definitely lose if we don't try at all.
Members of the mbcgamelove cafe (http://cafe.daum.net/mbcgamelove) gathered at the Hwaseung-Woongjin match today and shouted slogans before the match started, voicing their objection to the abolition of the channel.
Just a thought......Probably a long shot, but what about Hyung Joon? I mean the guy had two shows based on him being a progamer and forming a team. He has become great friends with Shark and probably many others on the shows. He himself is in one of the most famous Kpop groups. Obviously from a selfish perspective he would let MBC become a music station so he would have more airtime and whatnot, but that just doesn't seem like him. I'd like to see him and perhaps other Kpop celebrities he can get rally against this. Long shot, but...........ahhhh..........

Jaehoon said it on Bnet Attack so there's no thread. Hyung Joon probably had some contact with Shark because Shark did appear in one scene in the second series as a guest judge.

On the day of the PL finals, the members of mbcgamelove cafe managed to get 107 cards signed. That's over 3000 signatures I think (if 210 signatures fill up roughly 7 cards). No mention of what the total number of signed cards is but starting yesterday (22nd August), they began sending these cards, 10 cards each day, to the KCC.
