Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |
wow....I can't even express in words how depressing this news is.
What does this mean for the future of BW? This hole in the BW proscene needs to be filled up quickly somehow or I can see things quickly spiraling out of control. If MBC Hero is disbanded, what will happen to the players? Even if other teams take them, it's still detrimental to the proscene because now it's going to be even harder for rookies to get opportunities. What will happen to proleague with only channel broadcasting it? With only one individual league, how many BW players will still want to remain with BW when there are like a million SC2 tournaments every year with really high prize pools? And the MBC commentators....
Something big must be done to restore the BW proscene because I just don't see it surviving for long in its present state.

Well... I'd been feeling a bit oversaturated with Brood War games since Proleague changed format this year, but this is going too far the other way I think.

KESPA said they wanted to move into SC2, so I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to takeover. Especially with teams like TSL now wanting to lock players into long-term contracts due to the Pumagate.

This seems like a pretty devastating blow to the BW scene... First match fixing scandal and now this? I'm starting to question wether BW will survive this. Thoughts?

There are problems with SC2 as well. Esports in Korea on a whole has a lot of problems. But SC2 has an international market to fall back on, bw doesnt.
If the Korean scene falls, the international scene won't last long.

I doubt this would actually be good for the SC2 community. There's only the GSL and GSL related tournaments going on. Beyond that, it's nonexistent. It's why Korean SC2 gamers are starting to move out to foreign tournaments and teams.
Although, it might be good for GOM, not too sure if BW spectators would actually watch SC2 even though they prefer BW...

Not true, SC2 isnt all about korea, yes the best players come from korea but theres plenty of big tournaments outside of korea, something that BW doesnt have,

Wow...
I don't even follow Starcraft in general anymore but this news makes me feel sad. All the good memories... the first starleague falls...

Fuck. I come back home from hard days work, had a great dinner, laughed a bit with my wife, feeling good and all.. logged on to see what's up on TL and I see this.. my heart literally froze.. then sank.. and talk about all that food in my stomach suddenly twisting and turning.. T_T

Wow, I can't believe this. I grew up with BW and if it really goes it'll never be the same. I knew they were having a some troubles but never realized it'd be that bad. I'm sorta scared for Korea esports (both SC2 and BW).
The savior-bisu-stork era was the best for me.

At first I thought something was missing in the title : "What the heck are they shutting down???".
Then I read the OP and... bam, got punched in the gut. Shutting down ALL of their non-music activities.
If no other company comes to fill the void, no MSL, maybe no more PL either... I don't think BW could survive with OSL only.
But BW cannot die now. SC2 just isn't ready to take over. this would bbe a major blow to ESPORTS.

What horrible news to what up to
