I really wonder if he'll stay in the E-sports field after he retires as a player or if he'll go into a completely different direction. I mean it's obvious he could become a coach and be hired for the rest of his life, but who knows what he'll really want?

He will probably do something esports related.

Maybe he will switch to SC2 and play, that's like the retirement home for ex-BW players

My honest guess though is probably coaching, considering his wrist.

That's obviously not the case. If Flash wants to start a family he must work.

Iunno he's probably got a more than a million USD banked.

You have to have way more than that to live comfortably for the rest of your life especially if you start a family. I'm sure though that Flash's kids won't go starving

way more then a million to live comfortably?? I would like too see the kind of lifestyle you are used to sir.

Given that Flash isn't 20, you'd imagine he's got 50+ years ahead of him. A million/50 is only 20k a year. So yeah, you'd have to have more than a million to live comfortably for the rest of your life, when the rest of your life is a pretty long time.

I'm pretty sure he has more than that though, and will certainly not be retiring for a while...

Apparently you didn't read my other post. Fyi, I grew up in a poor household and I'm very very stingy when it comes to money. Of course I know how big of a sum $1mil is but those who are affluent have rich tastes. I'm not saying Flash will live an overly-extravagant lifestyle but these days, just a good house costs so much cash. Maybe I went too far when I said 'way more' but it is still my opinion that you need more than 1 mil if you want (and your family) to live comfortably for the rest of your life.

Being able to outright purchase a home\cars without interest should make it pretty easy to live off of 1m+ USD.

Without any interest or anything else, 1 million is enough to live an long life on at all. Unless, you live in a third world nation, or live like you live in a third world nation in a first world nation.

Speaking of which, there was a girl who sits with Flash's father and mother.

Is she Flash's sister or cousin or girlfriend?

To be honest, she looks pretty good and does not resemble Flash.

Flash doesn't have a girlfriend and he says he doesn't have the time for one. He does however have sisters.

Flash could live off of the money he has made if he wanted to. I highly doubt he wants to. I would bet money that he is going to go into an e-sports related career after he retires from playing. It will probably be a high pay low stress low hours job and he'll be living a good life.

Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, the money isn't just going to sit in the bank. Netting 8% a year off investments is going to be 80k a year without even drawing from the main capital. 1 million in cash is definitely enough to live comfortably for a long long time.

You guys are forgetting that average Koreans earn far less money than people in NA/EU. Flash could probably live an average lifestyle for the rest of his life if he retired tomorrow.

He could become like boxer/oov/nada/july.

With the exception of oov who is still coaching bw, the other players were paid heaps just to stay on the team. I'm not sure how much it was, but it was fairly significant (i.e., over 100k).

If someone has more concrete info, it would be appreciated..

On Boxer's wiki page it says he had an annual salary of 390k during his BW days (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lim_Yo-Hwan) which is based on this article written about him in escapistmagazine on 6 April 2010

And every single one of them except oov hated to be kept on a team yet prevented from actually competing.

They were not prevented from competing. They just didn't qualify for OSL/MSL and didn't play well enough in practice compared to the younger players.

Even Boxer claimed in an interview that he couldn't even win 1 game out of 100 against Bisu.

Still, getting paid so much without being competitive is a sweet life if you ask me. Though well deserved after putting in so much effort..

15% interest which is stable, riskless and liquid? Get real.

Also, 1 million is not that much. My parents have more than that, and they think it's barely enough to live comfortably for retirement at the age of 60+.

In any event, it's a moot point since some people seem to indicate Flash has career plans after Starcraft anyway.

Ya because Flash is only going to make 1 million over the course of his career. Get real.

Flash will likely make much more than $1m dollars by the time he retires. He said just recently that he expects to play another 5 years of SC and hasnt even played SC2. If he keeps doing well, it could well be 2-3 million dollars. If he slumps, he probably would get a million or more out of his career. And he is only 18!

I believe that Flash should be getting around 500K a year right now, probably a little north of that if anything while Bisu and Jaedong are not far behind.
