There has been a lot of people complaining about how windows 7 freezes and discolors broodwar. Although there isn't a sure fix to this, I think I found a method on how to somehow work around it.
The only programs you will need are Chaos and Iccup launcher.

I found a fix for this in an old thread on TL. It was an executable of some sorts and it fixed something in the registry. Search around on TL, I'm sure you'll be able to find it.

There is a thing that fixes the color's on fullscreen mode, but for some reason the computer just freeze's less than usual. But windowed mode never freezes

You can even go one step further and make a complete illusion of Fullscreen with W-mode in Chaoslauncher/iCCup launcher

1. Right click on your Chaoslauncher (or ICCup launcher) icon -> Properties.

2. Select "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" under Compatibility tab.

3. Run Chaoslauncher (or ICCup launcher) in Window Mode.

4. Position your StarCraft window perfectly so it aligns on all 4 sides of your screen (it takes little practice to position the top of the window, but it's pretty simple. Click on the red line and pull it up until you don't see red line anymore. If the sides are not aligned perfectly you won't be able to scroll with mouse in one or more direction while in game).

5. Use Alt + F1 to lock your cursor inside StarCraft window, so you can scroll normally in game. (you only have to do this once).

With this workaround your desktop resolution will change to 640x480 everytime you start Chaoslauncher. That is also the resolution on which the BW is played so the game will appear to be in fullscreen, even though it's in window mode. (After you exit Chaoslauncher, your Desktop Resolution will revert to your original one without messing up your icons!).

Not sure if this works with iCCup, but definitely works on BW. Change your theme to Windows Classic (looks like XP theme) and then bring up the resolution window. When you load BW, it will have normal colors and I haven't experienced any freezes

No windows 7 / Vista - no problem.

Sorry for saying that, I tried them both and XP is better (especially lol vista). So take this as not a trolling but a serious advice. =__=

I don't understand how to do number 4. Do you just left click and drag? That doesn't work for me.

edit: I just straight up don't understand. [image loading]

I might try this out, seeing a lot of discoloration and the game sometimes crashing gets kind of old.

Yes, you left click on the top border to move the window.

But in that screenshot, your resolution hasn't changed to 640x480. Did you do 1-3 steps?

Try going to Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapter -> List all modes. Choose 640x480, True Color (32 bit).

Ah, I hadn't set StarCraft to run in 640x480, only ICCup launcher. But this works really well, thanks :D. Also, you need to have the 4 arrows selected on the top bar to move it around. Just thorught I'd throw that out there. Also, any idea what effect this has on streaming with procaster or camtasia?

Yes I have a problem with this too, is there anyway I can get it to work nicely (not too big not too small_ without having to change the resolution to 640x480?

I use ChaosLauncher too by the way, and this is basically what I have

This is my screen without alt+f9

http://i54.tinypic.com/1zbsyms.png

And this is with alt+f9

http://i56.tinypic.com/2n6splg.png

Is there really no other way except to run Chaos in 640 resolution?

Thanks in advance.

This may be correct, but in my case, it is as fast as full screen ^_^

Just need to find a way for it to be able to "adjust" to my screen without completely going full screen = /

W-mode in Chaoslauncher is 640x480 resolution. When you toggle double size (Alt + F9), it's exactly that, double.

So the resolution of a Starcraft window in 2nd screenshot is 1280x960. You can't change this. However, you can change your desktop resolution to fit the whole window, by increasing it to at least 1280 pixels in width and at least 960 pixels in height (depends if your monitor supports this big of an resolution).

1366x 768 is my max resolution

Maybe I should learn to play in mini-mode :3

Did you follow my above mini guide? You mentioned in other thread that it messes up your icons on desktop, but that shouldn't happen...

Did you change your resolution manually or did you right click on Chaoslauncher and clicked "Run in 640x480"?

You can't change the size of a Starcraft window. It's either 640x480 or 1280x960 if double size is toggled.

Only thing you can do is manipulate your desktop resolution to change the perception of the Starcraft window's size.
