I've arrived in Korea and I'm looking to watch a live pro-game. I'll be here until the 18th of december.

Someone earlier mentioned going to a studio at 7:00pm on fridays. Does anyone have any other details? Anything?

Thanks for your help!
ps. Korea is WAY colder than Bangkok!

The places are all in COEX mall (samsung station)

OGN games occur in the megaweb station, they are on the bottom floor passed the megaweb movie theatre (you can't miss it, the theatre so blue and heavily lighted, and going passed the box office you'll see a small glass entrance way).

MBC games are a bit closer to the main entrance than megaweb station, they're at the Sejoong Gaming Center (the overhead maps directions will point you there)~ it's really green when there are no games occuring, but when theres a game about to happen (for any game), theres always a bunch of setup things. Other fun things to do at sejoong is play the free arcades of a bunch of cool games~

All the games should be at 7 (don't know which days though, i always get confused with war3), but for SC (especially for big games), go 1-2 hours earlier if you want a good seat (and want to be on TV, be sure not to duck your head or look away it looks so stupid if you're a guy -_- i was front row for quarter finals of war3 prime league and i looked away and my friends thought i looked stupid). It's gets really crowded for sc game and it gets uncomfortable after a while (that's why people get up after 2 games in a bo5 because that's break time~).

WTF! They play the games at COEX mall?!

Omg -_________-; I went there for like six hours and I had nothing to do... so I watched minority report at the Megaweb movie theatre. Oh man, I'm going to kill myself.

Dude you were like literally 50 steps away from the megaweb station.

Edit: Right next to the PS2 room [ Why didn't you go there? ] it's pretty small entrance.

Btw I hate you for making me remember those oh so sweet memories of Korea. :D

How is the living cost in Seoul?

Compared to...New York?

Just curious...
For example, what's the cost of a meal, a month of rent, a car, etc etc

Anyone?

Okay, wish me luck, I'll be heading over there tomorrow. Any last minute ideas or advice?

Its really cool watching games on TV. Too bad the reception sucks (at both of the places I've stayed). There's at least 3 channels with SC games on them - 46, 71, and 74. Someone mentioned 65, but I dont get that channel.

advice: don't buy the ice cream or really anything from the cafe near/inside Sejoong (next to the public computers), they are overpriced and not worth it -_-;

Well, I went to the mall and the MBC game centre didnt have anything on and the OGN had counter-strike.

I couldnt find anyone who knew what was going on (there were several people waiting for BW at the MBC place so I wasnt alone) - does anyone here know what the time table is or where to find it?

I'm pretty disappointed and a bit bummed.

But it sounds like 'Hwa I Ting' in Korea. Think it as 'White-ing'

If you sit in front row you are guaranteed to be on the camera i think. Ack went to OGN, so i dunno it for that, but in MBC they shoot camera angle at both sides. That's if -_- though.. getting front row is really hard for sc (i never attempted it, even for war3 you have to wait at least an hour). Some friends of mine sometimes wait 3 hours if its important or fun matches coming up, and waiting there and stuff is not fun, and is very uncomfortable.

When i went to korea I was on tv for like a few seconds in an important war3 match..i was going to write about it but i remembered TL doesnt like war3 and probably would not care T_T

It was awesome!
There wasnt many people there - I think they were all at the MBC games (I walked by there afterwards and T1 was playing - it was packed and the crowd was really excited. Sadly it ended about 10 minutes after I got there).

Progammers are a stoic bunch. The only emotion I saw all night was ogogo - which was funny because I also thought he was the least emotional player. It was in his 2nd game - he just lost a bunch of hydras attacking a set of photon cannons and reavers. A wack of corsairs were heading up to wipe out his overlords and he let out a big sigh. It was the turning point of the game.

Speaking of ogogo - whats up with him? Is he on a team or is he independent?

If you watch the full feed you'll see me in the front row.

Anyone know whats on MBC and OGN friday?

More later. Thanks for all your help!

korean things
my sister went there a few summers ago. i havent been there since i was a child.

about 1200 won is 1 dollar. the things there are a lot cheaper than you would think, but the wages the people receive is less.

a bowl of jja jjang myun (noodles with a kind of black sauce mad gooood lol) is about 2400 won or 2000 won. over here it would be about 6 or 7 dollars.

the biggest money currency in korea is worth about 10 dollars. so if you are loaded in korea, you carry a lot of bills.

GTR-2-Go,

By "tonight" do you mean wednesday? (the whole international dateline and time zone change makes days difficult to talk about. I assume you mean "tonight" auzzie time, which is the same as the korean 'tonight') you know who's playing?

yes wednesday, fyi the proleague matches are on wednesday nights and saturday afternoon i think.
it will be them teams, hanbit/ktf/skt t1/samsung who will be playing

so you will probably see 2 out of these 6 KTF vs Samsung, Hanbit vs KTF, Hanbit vs SKT T1, Hanbit vs Samsung, or SKT T1 vs Samsung because KTF vs SKT T1 and Hanbit vs Samsung were played last week.

EDIT- Hexatron, SUMA, Pantech and SouL are on Saturdays. (Or on Sundays dunno)

Sweet games tonight - thanks for the heads up! Do you know if there's anything on thursday or friday - and if so, what?

The Nal_Rock-SaferZerg was the crowd favorite. It was great to see some drone and probe micro at the start.

OMG - I cannot believe i got to see Yellow and Chojja play - that made all the effort worth it! Their hands practically flew around the keyboard - pretty amazing. They really slammed down their opponents - it was just sick. Holy Cow are those two popular with the girls in the audience.

I didnt think HOT.Forever was still playing - it was good to see him (and what a great name)!

No. Otherwise I won't be the only TL member to have one. I would like to keep it this way. ^^

Btw sounds like you're having fun. Reminds me sooooo much of when I was there. I'm jealous ^^

Rofl and if you're anything like me you'll save that VOD forever and name it something like ' Boxer vs Nal_Rock ACK CAMEO! '

I left another message here earlier, but it seems to have been lost...

The games this evening were awesome. Chojja spanked another KTF zerg - Chojja must have had twice the APM.

Kingdom played juju - the first game lasted an hour and went on after all the minerals were exhausted. Kingdom went dark achons at the end and mind-controlled a lot of juju's forces. It was a crowd favorite - very close game (I thought for sure he was going to lose...)

The MBC studio is *way* better than OGN - you can walk all the way around the players and "look over their shoulder". I had a 1st person VOD view of Kingdom - too bad Chojja was on the other side of the stage.

It started at 6:30 FYI.

MBC is new, OGN is really old, though they did fix it up a bit as it used to be a pc bang, but they removed that to make room for more spectators.

I saw the kingdom vs jju game but only came in half way through when he had 14 archons and was in easy control, it was a bit boring for the next 30 mins as he did nothing but sit in his base being cute. So i dont know where you thought for sure he was going to lose unless it was earlier in the game?

Are you the guy with the glasses? that was at MBC the other day? They showed a white guy for a few seconds during one of the matches.
My hope is one day stupid people will feel the same pain when they talk, as the pain the rest of us feel when we hear them. Twitter: @Legionnaire_au

actually they are not saying fighting.
it is more pronounced like hai ting.
this really means like LETS GO. or GO TEAM. or like a woo woo woo kinda cheer.
but since fighting is what they do in these games, i guess they made it fighting.

just for the people that were wondering.

Legionnaire - I probably mis-read the game; I just saw jju with like 75% of the map and Kingdom unwilling to leave the security of his photon cannons. I thought the last 30 minutes were pretty fun - there was a lot of excitement and energy comming from the crowd. There were a few times Kingdom didnt have any detection and would grab an overload from the lurker drop. Both players were exhausted at the end of them game - Kingdom left the stage immediately after the game and Jju looked wrecked.

What do other people think of the last 30 minutes? Did kingdom have it in the bag?

Tonight's going to be awesome!

Hey, what does the audience say right before the game starts? You know, like everyone at once says it. Sorry for such a newb question.

Absolutely awesome games tonight!!

The girls teased poor Reach before the game - several times. He hid his head each time.

The most exciting part - the crowd was going wild - was when iloveoov was busting through JulyZerg's 15 (yes, 15) sunkens with tanks and M&Ms. July had a bunch of guardians morphing just behind the last sunken. We didnt know if they were going to hatch until the M&Ms were underneath them.

The coursair vs muta/devouror/scourge battles in the reach vs jju game was pretty exciting!

The Yellow vs QMax game was a dissapointment - it was over before it started.

The place was packed. I got there 1.5 hours early and it was almost overfull.

Well, no more progames for me - I'm heading home early tommorrow afternoon. I'll post my pics when i get back.

Vo-:

The audience usually say something like "Lim Yo-Hwan fighting," which means something along the lines of "Go Lim Yo-Hwan!"

GTR-2-Go - some of the pictures are pretty good!

I have 9 (!!) pages in my journal about SC in Korea. I dont know if anyone would want to read all that. Perhaps I'll edit it down and post it.

Wow! This is soo cool noobius! I wish you could have brought me! Sounds like fun!!!!!!!!! That'd be a dream come true for me! ^^

I mean, seeing all of this VODs, it'd be quite insane to actually see these folks playing LIVE, IN PUBLIC, IN REAL LIFE!

Keep me updated ^^

It certainly was cool. I'm trying to download the VODs from the games I saw from the "New Starcraft VODs - Updated" topic, but I evidently don't contribute enough.

I've tried the bit torrent downloads, but they either dont work or are comming in at 0.5kb/s.

Could someone either download these or save them for me if you've already downloaded them?

noobius, were you the white guy in glasses sitting in the front row? If so, you were given a second or two of air time during the group A challenge league. I have those ones for you. kalidascope7 at hotmail etc.

Okay, i've got the pictures online (about 145 of the 170-odd I shot were presentable).

I need a few people to help ID a few people's names and help me make a "best of" folder.

Then I'll type in my commentary and make the whole thing public.

Please Personal message me with how to get in touch with you.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Okay, I think the gallery is ready to look at:

http://daveid.smugmug.com/gallery/329620

Please help me fill in a few details and check for accuracy. There's a few ones that say something like "Khan Member" - if you could tell me who it is, I'd really appreciate it.
Likewise if you see me miss-name someone, please also tell me.

There's about 140 pictures there. I'd like to make a "best off" gallery - so if you see a photo you like, please tell me.

I'll type my journal in sometime in the next few days.

A few people mentioned they saw me in the VODs - I'm trying to track that down. Does anyone remember which game it was?

Thanks, GTR-2-Go, I fixed that.

Anyone know who the other khan and KTF members are?
