Ra's initial build, while a bit surprising, wasn't anything to get too excited over (thus, no strong reaction from either the live audience or the MBC commentators). But, it's what he did to get around GoodFriend's counter that shocked everyone. The game of SC is mature enough that very few (if any) strat will surprise anyone - if considered in retrospect. But, that's why you have to watch these things LIVE to get a genuine appreciation for what Ra did. Ra's counter to GF's counter didn't look practiced at all. It looked like something he improvised when he realized his initial build was a bust. Of course, in retrospect, it wasn't a difficult transition to make. In retrospect, it was maybe one of only three or four valid options left open to him at that point in the match. But, that's why competitions (not just SC/BW, but any kind of sporting competition) are never played "retrospectively" - they are played and won on the "field of battle" in the here and now. The people watching the game live (or, in my case, not live, but with the same sense of spontaneity) were rightly shocked when Ra made the final move. They (including the MBC commentators) were shocked for a reason. Comments that "oh, it was no big deal" or worse "oh, I could have done that" completely miss the point. Think about the context. Many of the so-called greatest moments in sport do not appear very "great" at all viewed through old TV footages from decades ago and considered in isolation. I mean, in isolation, was MJ's The Shot REALLY unique? How many times have we seen various NBA journeymen come up with a 25 footer at the last second to win the game in the NBA? A few dozen times a season, perhaps? The magnitude of the moment (and the reason why people over the years have decided to immortalize that shot) cannot be properly distilled unless you take into account the context (only seconds left, the season on the line, MJ being heavily defended, people expecting him to take the shot - and MJ actually making it), as well as the "feel" of the moment. Same goes for all the excellent BW strats that surprise and entertain in live competitions. Viewed through a cynical, retrospective eye, Ra's strat was no big deal. But, really, as the cliche goes, you had to be there. It was quite awesome to watch him pull it off. It certainly caught the MBC commentators and everyone in the audience off guard. And it shocked the heck out of me.

To me, his pvt game has gone to shit recently. First instead of going toe to toe with Oov in OGN groups, he does some wierd ass off cannon move that doesn't work at all. Then he loses to Ddang trying the same thing, then he loses to Doggi! I mean come on, Doggi? He played his two games vs friend really well, especially game one where he just played a solid pvt game. When he first one MBC people were saying how he's untested because he didn't go up against any zergs, he had a really solid pvt. Now everyone's saying that he's the best pvz in the world but his pvt is lacking. I dunno i'm just a fan of pure solid play against T, nothing tricky, just goon ob opening and just out play him. If anyone can do it, Ra can but it just seems like he pussies out against Ts who have a rep of bieng tough. It's just sad when a player of his caliber fails to qualify for at LEAST the challange leage because of a player like Doggi.
