Jaedong will be a freshman in university this March.
He applied for the regular admission which had its deadline on the last December 29. Overcoming a low admission rate, he received the acceptance letter.
Jaedong said, "As a progamer, my study time is irregular because of practice and tournaments. Therefore, I decided to attend Seoul Cyber University which is not limited in terms of time and space. I can study little by little as I have time, to earn my Bachelor's. I'll do my best to become the best player equipped in theory and in practice."
Currently, 50 of progamers, coaches, and e-sports personnel are attending Seoul Cyber University. The school is special in its courses in basic design, graphic and web design, digital media design, cultural content design, video game production theory, and applied video gaming programming.
The welcoming ceremony for the new students will take place on February 27.
I wonder how much money he has made total in his career - i guess he gets a salary from OZ; he lives there for free, earned some pretty big tournament prizes, and also some sponsors i guess? Remember that back pack he wore some weeks ago.

cool stuff. but considering jaedongs amazing dedication to whatever he does it was kinda obvious that such a gifted, hard-working kid has a bright future, even after his active progaming career.

This university offers him the freedom to study whenever he finds the time, and study at the pace that fits his progaming schedule. Downtime in-between seasons and ProLeague Rounds -> gogo study. Free day at the progaming house? Gogo Study. Ofc he won't be able to finish his studies in the regular 3 years or whatever it is, but that doesn't matter. If he so desires, he can always change unis later.
Good!! Although it's not a classical university subject, I applaud that he is getting some qualifications even if he has tons of money now. Awesome example to set from someone at the top of the profession.
This probably means fewer ace match obligations for Jaedong, and more for Killer. Good decision for him, thinking ahead for the "afterlife" after Starcraft dies.

Don't you guys realize that all this has been created to give the illusion that PGMers don't necessarily have to forget their social life. But that can't be the case. Either his results will drop cause he wouldn't be as focused/train as much as before, or maybe they wouldn't, but that will imply that the education delivered suck.

Good for him. it's hard to believe that he is only freshman age, given how long he's been in the scene and how mature he is.
also, he's setting a great example for young kids in Korea who think that studying and gaming can't go hand-in-hand.
with such a good head on his shoulders and such a great work ethic, i have a really hard time believing that he won't be extremely successful in whatever field he chooses.
P.S. I hope he goes into graphic design so that we may work together someday ^^
At first I thought he was dropping pro-sc for this and was going to make a foolish comment about how flash is now bonjwa, now I am both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised. Hopefully he can get more than 35-45 seconds a day to study.
Seoul Cyber University? is that school any good? damn i half expected he could own all the other freshmen and get into KAIST or something...
Congrats though. At least he's had a reality check and knows the future's not gonna be in SC, along with 50 other progamers in that uni. Don't wanna see the Dong lowering himself to the status of "commentator..."
Christ you nearly gave me a heart attack OP, thank god he'll still be gaming. With his work ethic/competitive nature/ money in the bank he could probably become any type of scholar he wants.
This guy's a complete monster. With the amount of dedication he puts into whatever he does, he'll be successful at whatever he does. I wish him the best of luck in the future!

I know I've heard flash went to high school, so I imagine jaedong must have been in high school before this too. If so, I doubt this will affect jaedong's gameplay skill too much since hes already been going to high school before anyway.
I'm curious. Since a lot has mentioned that he's better off in an USA uni. Is he eligible to apply for an Ivy League uni? His english proficiency doesnt seem to be good enough for that, unless there is an exception for successful professional gamers.

It's insane he's willing to spend his off-days or freetime studying after hardcore bw training. Anyway I hope he's successful with this, but I'd rather he spent all that time on english lessons so we could talk to him more! (and yes we're all too lazy to learn korean)
400apm multimedia design = GG JD knows how to be the best at what he does, and if he has the same kind of passion (well, even maybe 1/4 of the passion) for his studies as SC, I believe he will be very successful at it.
Given his popularity in Starcraft, he would already have a good profession in progaming scene after retirement. Maybe a commentator like Kingdom, Nalra. He might even become coach of Oz, lol. Looking at what the "cyber school" offer, what can he expect after getting a bachelor? Getting a management job at MBC? I dont think so.

I think it was more implying that he'll spend his whole career in the industry, but maybe not necessarily as a player. After a certain amount of experience, he might be more valuable as a coach, a P.R. rep, an underwear model, or a commentator. In those capacities, some higher education is advantageous.
