Hey, so this idea has finally started coming together. Reallogic has kindly offered us a location in Superior, which is between Denver and Boulder. We are thinking we will LAN some StarCraft and chill out.

Where: Some place in Superior. Details forthcoming.

What: TL Meet and LAN

When: When is good for you? Obviously I want as many TLers as possible to be able to make it. I'm thinking sometime within the next month. Almost certainly a weekend.

Who: We need to know how many people to expect, so post here if you are interested or able. If you have non-TL buddies who play, they are certainly welcome. Just talk to them about it and post how many guests you anticipate bringing.

On board so far:
reallogic
thopol
Viperskwa
L_Master
Meta
dyren
CVBaqq
Hypnosis
Sanity

What to bring: This will be BYOPC, so you need to bring whatever gaming equipment you need. We will probably also need a router. In fact, it would be great if someone could sign up to be the network dude. Also, we're going to be getting food somehow, so you'll need some cash for that.

This will be a no-booze event. We'll figure out some event minus sobriety for later.

This isn't really a tournament/big LAN, just a TL meetup, so I put it in BW. If a mod thinks it ought to be elsewhere, just toss it wherever.

I'd be game.

I want to do this LAN thing too, but I'd go drinking with TLers for sure.

Yo, I've got like me and 4 other people I know right off of the top of my head who would probably go. All of them are in college right now and we're all pretty busy as it is. Most of us were planning on going to the intel lanfest supposedly coming up this spring break (I just talked to the admins, nothing is confirmed on that). So I can talk to them and see if there's a weekend where we'd all be off in the next month or so. How many people can I bring? xD

I'm not exactly sure about the space we have. Reallogic can be more specific, I'm sure.

Hit me up with a good date for you when you can.

Awesome. I was guessing how many people would be interested based on the user locations thread, which is clearly understocked.

I would probably be game for this! Living in boulder currently.. I'd be down for the bars idea if the meetup was postponed until late april or may so that I can turn 21

Aside from SC, what are everyone's gaming interests?
How many coloradoans play heroes of newerth? That could be fun to lan. What about super smash bros melee?

Put me down as a maybe (75% sure), some weekends are kind of tight for me.

edit: wow i'm surprised at how much interest there is in this. Had no idea there were so many starcraft fans in colorado
good vibes only

Lol me and my friends would be underage to drink. We're mostly 19-20 . We'd still go to the lan though. Would you guys have a big enough switch/router if everyone came over? If not I got some pretty ridiculous networking gear I could bring

Currently thats one of the things I'm worried about is the networking situation. Space isn't really the issue I think we can probably accommodate 15 - 20 people pretty easily, I'll have to check a few things to confirm the number though so it could be a few less or a few more depending. I'll let ya all know when I know more.

Networking won't be a problem, I can definitely take care of all of the heavy duty switches and router (and possibly cabling too). Just make sure we have enough power to draw from the circuit in the room you'd like to host it in. Most bedrooms will have a 15 ampere circuit while kitches and laundry rooms will have 40 to 60 amperes. If we plug in too many computers onto a single circuit we'll blow out the fuse XDD....fun times >.>

Edit: Also forgot, I know how to get everyone able to go out on battle.net and play in the same room without lag and without changing things on the pc. So we can get people to play bgh on battle.net if we want :D

I'm thinking that going out drinking isn't the best idea given that we'd be excluding a fair number. Drinking at the house might be an option, however I guess that's totally up to reallogic or whoever it is that actually owns the place.

Just fyi the location I'm working on is the community center of the apartment complex that I live in. A good friend of mine is the leasing director here so I'll be able to use it for free. I'll need to check out the power situation, and figure out what room we'll actually want to use ect. I'm not 100% sure that we'll actually have internet access although I'm sure there are about 10,000 unsecured routers in the complex so ... In any case like I said I'll keep everyone posted as I get some more information.

As for drinking I'm gonna say it's probably best to keep it a dry event aside from caffeinated beverages. However we could always put together a night out in Denver or Boulder for the older crowd at some point.

Ok guys. So it looks like we'll likely have enough space for about 10 people due to a limit in the number of tables we'll have to set up with. I figure we have 4- 5 folding tables and 2 people per table so... if basic multiplication serves me thats 8 - 10 people we can have set up. I'm still checking on a few things and hopefully will get more information over the weekend.

Sweet. I haven't been able to get in contact with the colorado springs lan admin so I can't get cabling for everyone. Everyone will have to bring their own ethernet cords (probably 10-16 feet in length). How are we doing with the ISP situation?

I'm pretty sure we'll have to do a closed network, i.e. no internet access. As such we'll need a router / switch to act as a DHCP server in order to dish out IP addresses etc. I don't want to put my friend in a position that could get her in trouble so I think this is just a necessary evil.

Well I can just use my router as a huge wireless adapter for everyone if we need to stealz some interwebs. Just not horse porn or torrents and we'd be fine :D. I'm pretty sure that any company would charge a lot for temp access to the internet, if they even service that area (such as comcast). I can always call in and see if they could do such a thing.

Personally I think it's just better if we just stick to a closed network for this get together. Brood war / pizza should be pretty good for a first go at it.

As for when I'm on board with everyone else weekends are pretty wide open for me and as such its just finding a weekend which works for everyone.

So, there are 4 weekends in February. Which one do we pick? Does anyone have commitments for any of them?

I'm open to any of the weekends this month. I don't care about the superbowl so that's not an issue either (that's this month right?).

I need 2 weeks time ahead of w/e we are going to do to make sure I get time off from work. Anything on the weekend works fine for me. Maybe people with tighter schedules could post something that would work 2 weeks ahead of us.

Edit: 2 friends said they would go. Brad and Craig can go on any weekend with enough notice ahead. So they are basicly in the same boat as I am.

Dude, if you drive here from Texas, I guarantee we will be taking you out drinking, maybe skiing, getting you high, whatever. I have few means, but if someone were to travel to our humble meetup, I for one would treat em right.

I have two friends who would come as well if we have space. We need to choose a weekend, and if our lanman needs 2 weeks then it means we have the last 2 weekends in February to choose from. I need to hear from some other people and then we can nail down our date and time. What will it be? the 20-21st or the 27-28th?

EDIT: Yo RL, is there any easy way to take the bus to this location? My pass works for the B so I can get to any of the park and rides en route to Boulder.

I'm going to school in Denver so I might be able to come. According to google maps it'd only take me about an hour and a half via public transit since I don't have a car here.

I wish I was 21 so I could go to bars. I don't feel like getting a fake ID though because I honestly think I'd just feel out of place at a bar right now.

I'll need to take the bus as well. Is there a park-and-ride near Superior, or is it going to be a pain in the ass?

Regardless, maybe we can meet up at Market St station and ride up together.

Guys what time would you all want to start? I don't have things squared 100% yet with the location so... I need to know what time would work for everyone to start and what day of the week works best for you all, and if you'd be bringing a desktop or a laptop (lap tops are preferable due to set up time / space). Let me know.

-RL

P.S. thopol I don't know the bus system around the area at all as I drive everywhere. So you'll probably wanna do a bit of research.

Okidoke.

I'm just going to throw this out there: Lets do this on the 27th, starting at 2:00p.
Does this date and time work alright? It's not final, but I'd like to get to something final in the next day or two.

L_Master, I'd definitely take you up on a ride. I'm in Park Hill, but I can easily get to somewhere more convenient for you.

27th sounds good to me, let me send a message to the 3 other guys who might come: cvbaqq, craig, and brad. this going to be a 1 night thing or like 1 night and then more on 28th or what? also do we have a place to sleep and when would we show up?

Well the place we'd be playing closes at 10pm so we'd need to be out of there by then, meaning the event would have to end no later than 9:15 - 9:30. I'd be staying to make sure everything is cleaned up and what have you. The 26th might be a better option too as my friend's husband is in class on Friday evenings which means she isn't sacrificing a whole lot of her time to make sure things go well. Let me know what you guys think.

The 26th would work for me. I'm not sure if lots of people have work or school that would interfere though.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean with the husband in class thing. Will she feel obligated to look after us if he is around?

Also, how skilled are you guys? I know there's probably quite a bit of variety...
I'm a Zerg player. Last time I laddered a bit I was D, but I have improved since then, so maybe D+? I haven't done enough laddering anytime recently to properly tell.

It's just that she has to be there while we are there, and as such if her husband is in class she's not going to mind being there as much.

Race: Zerg
Rank: D

Though it may be different now. Also if you missed it in my previous post please post whether you'd be planning on brining a laptop or desktop, so I can get an idea of how much table space we'll need.

My laptop sucks balls so i will probably bring my desktop.

Race: random

rank: C+/B- (prolly C now hahahah)

edit: Most weekends are good for me.

I'm a Protoss player, rankwise I'm on the lower end of D, but my mechanics are getting a good bit better, so hopefully I'll start moving up a bit.

The 26th is good for me since I get out of class around 1230, as is the 27th. Oh, I'll be brining a laptop.

@thopol - If I'm not mistaken Park Hill is kinda over by colorado blvd/east colfax, that general area. If I'm remembering right that is fine by me, because I'm over at Regis so its only like a 6 or so miles. If several people want rides that are all over the city, then a convienent meeting spot would be really helpful.

27th @ 2 is good. 26th not as good but whatever the host requires is fine.

Race: Protoss
Rank: S-Class mother fuckerss.
Bringing the desktop...

I don't have the balls or time to ladder/practice but when I move into my new place I'll have more time to spend playing. (right now I spend a lot of time in my car...) I can beat D rankers pretty easily but it looks like I'll have to practice my non-existent PvZ a bit T.T ..

I'm in boulder w/ a Jeep and can carpool with a few people if necessary.

Cheers

This leaves one more spot, and I know LeperKhan showed some interest via PM a couple of weeks back. Unfortunately this means we can't really handle extra guests.

If you are on this list and won't be able to make it on the 26th or 27th, please post about it. We need to get the date and attendance finalized pretty soon.

I'm down. 26th or 27th works for me as long as I can be fashionably late on the 27th.

I'm sure we'll discuss there, but we should really consider doing a boarding trip or somesuch too. Are we looking at a lan for the 27th? That'd be sick.

Also, I'm a D+ zerg from boulder :O
Somebody mentioned HoN as well. I'm terrible at the game and even worse high, but let's do it!

OK, well reallogic, it seems like there isn't any objection to either date.
How about we do 2:00p on Friday the 26th? If work/school is an issue for starting that early we'll push it back a couple of hours.
If that sounds good for you it's final.

This is going to be awesome. We can even catch the start of WL if it's on when it normally is on Fridays.

I'm checking with my friend this weekend to verify. Just FYI if there are any controlled substances at the LAN you will not be staying period. This is being held at my apartment complexes community center during the day, so use some common sense and discretion guys.

I figured I'd mention I likely won't be staying very long for a lan, so if that frees up space please let someone else lan with you guys. I'll swing by and meet you all, but I can't stay too long.
Still so excited though!

Oh, hey, I sent out some PMs but forgot the date. The final date is the 26th. Friday the 26th of February.

If I didn't PM you, PM me. If I did PM you, PM me back.

This is going to be so sick.

Ok, so everything is finalized, but I haven't heard back from anyone about rides. If I PMed you, hit me back or post in here if you need or can offer a ride to someone. If you already told me, that's cool.

Oh, and someone bring a camera so we can post some pics of the event.

EDIT: I hope to god one of you has beta and I can try it.

this is probably the closest a TL meetup is ever going to be to Wyoming. It's still a 7 hour drive from where I am. What am I doing Friday..

What time are you guys going to meet on Friday? If there is still space for one more I could probably make it if someone gives me a ride (or I could public transportation it up too.)

I thinked I PM'd you about it thopol, but yes I can still give rides, and I have space for 3 or 4 if someone is okay sitting middle.

I'm at Regis, which is up by 50th and Lowell. If you guys want rides do let me know ASAP so I can figure out the best route for me to pick people up or for you guys to meet.

I'd appreciate a ride L_Master. Jonoman92 would like one too. I haven't heard from anyone else in need. I'm up by City Park, on the east side by the museum, though I can get around by bus if this is inconvenient.

Hey guys thanks to everyone who showed up for this. The event turned out really well in my opinion and I really hope we can do this again. Hopefully next time we can setup some tournament brackets, perhaps 1v1 and 2v2 or something along those lines. I look forward to playing with all you guys again.

Thanks a ton to thopol and reallogic for organizing this. It was really nice to meet some fellow TL'ers. We should do another one in the not too distant future. (also thx thopol for letting me use your keyboard a few games)

Being able to talk about sc with people IRL is cool.

Oh hey guys what do you think about setting up a BW league that transforms into an SC2 league when it comes out? I know a place up in North boulder that would be willing to host it. I may be able to talk to the owner and get a league fee worked out thats less expensive that his hourly rate for using his computers. Otherwise he might let us use the space if we bring laptops or something like that.

Let me know if there is any interest in this.

Holy shit logic, that's an awesome idea. I would be very down for a league. I also would like to do a 2v2 or 1v1 bracket at our next LAN. L_Master and I will be the chobo 2v2 team and rock you guys.

That was a really sweet meetup guys. We have to do something again soon.

Oh, hypnosis, post those pics.

Cool, I'll talk to the owner of the shop up in Boulder and see what he says and how he'd want to handle it. Hopefully we can get something worked out.

Next weel (starting the 5th) is my Spring Break, if people are interested in LANing again that soon I could definitely host a fair number of people (at least 10) at my house anytime that week , or those weekends. If there is interest let me know.
