I needed to enable this option because BW is taking 50% my doble core, but I just found out that patch 1.16.1.1 (the lastest patch) doesnt have that option while 1.16.1.0 has it...
Even though I did manage to turn on the cpu throttling option by downgrading to 1.15, then patching to 1.16.1.0 and then finish upgrading to 1.16.1.1 I am curious on why that option (which was fairly new) was taken back...
I am also curious if there is a workaround on this issue like turning on cpu throttle on the registry or something. And yes I am aware of CPU Savior, but i dont want to put Chaos launcher or any additional software since this is not my PC, and the owner has panic attacks concerning software and the interwebs.

Wait... blizzard actually came out with a new SC patch?
|
|
i think the latest patch does have cpu throttling because I did it the other day and it made my sc run like shit and not feel quite right. Your better off finding out why your comp such a hard time running sc. .the cpu throttling settings was in speed or something (sorry 2 lazy to look).. but its a small box easy to miss. (wouldnt recommend it though)
Def re install windows to make sure its not a virus giving you these cpu spikes and if it is still not resolved your going to have to start troubleshooting your hardware. good luck

SC is still on version 1.16.1 so if you have something different you must have gotten a fake patch.
|
Why would blizzard update o.o
|
1.16.1.1? no idea, i get none of them updates here
|
starcraft will pretty much always max out a core bro just like a 1 line program containg "while (true) { /* do nothing */ }" games have lots of loops in them checking input/network shit so even if its not very demanding it will still use dem cpu cycles
|
actually i dont download any patch.... besides 1.16.1.0 from b.net but when i enter to multiplayer and check version again is 1.16.1.1... :S
I just patched to the blizzard version and entered multiplayer > ICCup and I when i go to the SC folder my starcraft is updated to 1.16.1.1... go and check your version, actually if you go multiplayer and go to options > speed none of you should have cpu throttle... even in single player.
am i missing something here?
does playing with chaos launcher updates my starcraft? I only use Chaos launcher and i never download patches from other sites. This update is automatic and i dont receive any message either. :S

there is no patch 1.16.1.0 or 1.16.1.1 there is only 1.16 and 1.16.1
|
1.16.1.0 is the same as 1.16.1. There is no 1.16.1.1 though. Where did you download such a patch?
|
no, 1.16.1.0 is not the same, it has a ".0" at the end and no such release titled 1.16.1.0 exists. this isn't math ".0" actually means something when you are talking about version titles.
|
ok nvm... I found out why i was missing the cpu throttling option. It happens to be that I use the keyboard in spanish, and to accomplish that i use a patch_rt.mpq from a spanish version of BW.
for some reason that disables the cpu option.
Anyways... for the sake of the argument i will post this:
Thats when i try to apply the blizzard patch to an already patched Starcraft executable.
Thats why i was confused and was talking about a 0 and a 1...

the patch after 1.16 will definitely be either 1.16.2 or 1.17
depends on how big the changes in the patch are
i think it goes something like players of the same 1.##.X can play together, whereas 1.X can't
|
I just checked, my version of SC also lists as 1.16.1.1 in WIndows Explorer, while listing 1.16.1 within SC itself.
Linked here as the image is rather large.

My SC is 1.16.1.1 but I still have the CPU throttling option.
I think you should just reinstall your SC.

I just love how we still talk about a game that's 11 years (wait 12 now?) old still getting patches.
Obviously there's nothing really of value in the patches anymore, but still, goes to show the legacy of Starcraft is amazing.

Nothing of value in the patches? They've been great.
Edit: For example: map preview, cpu fixes.
