I know (P)Jaehoon gets a lot of love/hate for losing often in Proleague but he's also always on MBC's lineup.

Obviously he can't play PvP, PvT or PvZ. However, (P)Jaehoon does win sometimes, beating the likes of (P)Spear, (P)Tazza and (P)herb.

I'm sure he's a good player, he just gets nervous when he's on tv.

(P)Jaehoon vs (Z)YellOw, MBCgame vs Air Force ACE Proleague.

Same game, drone killing mistake.

He's good for the game, starcraft needs some Rock in it at all times to stay fresh and entertaining. Although i feel there is a lack of hilarious protoss plays lately.

Jaehoons game against FBH is the most ridiculous game I've seen on pro-level.

And the recall-fails above are LOLs!!!

Jaehoon like Hyun is really hit or miss in televised games but he's really strong in practice. They are good players just have terrible nerves. Hyun isn't as bad as Jaehoon but I think the MBC coach keeps trying to cultivate them (mainly Jaehoon) into a strong TV player but it's not working well.

I've heard that Jaehoon is a very strong macro toss in practice. He was bigged up alot when he appeared, and people hyped up that much are usually at least pretty good.

Hilarious thread haha. Gotta say that purple hair definitely brought some attention.

Perhaps he needs to put Jah-Ith-Ber for a complete Enigma on his arbiters.

looooooooooooool @ this thread.
reminds me about SoO who always plays with the best progamers and you really find a shitload of reps of him vs S class progamers in practice games, yet you won't ever see him winning a single one.
Kinda like "good enough to practice with but not good enough to win something" lolol

Required Jaehoon watching. Even when he's doing well, he fails hard.

That storm gif was amazing, I don't know how he managed to even miss the scourge.

The peak of his career was beating Jaedong in a bo5. (before JD was a beast)

Then... he decided to do a gay ceremony and be cool about it.

I don't think he's won a game since then!

Rock is known for being bad in every matchup and always going 2 base carrier PvT. Every now and then his opponent wouldn't scout it and then it'd work but I don't recall him ever demonstrating any real ability in a progame. But he did cool ceremonies and had a sick highlights.

Adding to what Kwark said: The thing about Rock is that he was a tremendously sloppy player. But he was actually kind of interesting, albeit frustrating, to watch.

He's basically like the example of a B-rank progamer. He'd qualify for leagues and such, but he tended to be nothing but fodder for better players.

Fuck you guys. Seriously. You can't disrepect Nal_Rock like that.
Rock was one of the best toss in the early days.
Sure you remember his Katrina gay and his really really bad loss to sync on Cultivation Period...
Or his rape to July, or the time he had those zealots lost them all to Reach's 10 goons without killing one.. or or... fuck! ... but his prime was way before that.
It's like laughing at Reach now. If you saw Legionairre play now, you'd still watch his games with respect. GOD this thread just tilted the fuck outta me.

Yeah, Jaehoon's cool, but to even try to compare him to the great Nal_Rock is disgusting.

MORTALITY!! I WILL KILL YOU!!! And Kwark! Ill bash your stupid gapped british teeth in!

look guys, u can make fun of Jaehoon all u want, but the fact of the matter is, Jaehoon is a protoss dragon according to Roffles' requirements. His ELO is currently 1996 while his peak is at 2060, so he's within 90 points of his peak, thus fulfilling one of the requirements of being a protoss dragon.

recalled an observer!

the recall against Lomo was just bad position.. obviously. Shoulda flew over into the mineral line of that base. The bad timing in the same game, that definately coulda been avoided.

The drone miss, well, there wasn't that much he coulda did. I mean, he coulda killed like 3 when they were running, and ya, he coulda chased them back to whereever they were going, unless Z units woulda been there to defend.

Like OP said, i'm sure he's a good player, I mean he's a freakin' A-team progamer.. so like, i'm sure he's like A level from ICC or something, but i'd like to see if they had any other choices for Protoss in MBC.. They need to buckle down and raise a Protoss prodigy.

Like OP said, i'm sure he's a good player, I mean he's a freakin' A-team progamer.. so like, i'm sure he's like A level from ICC or something, but i'd like to see if they had any other choices for Protoss in MBC.. They need to buckle down and raise a Protoss prodigy.

are you joking about being an A rank on iccup? If you're an A-team progamer you should get olympic rank no problem
At A/A+ and above, you're talking pretty all people who are pretty strong progamers. Either that, or people like (Z)maGma. Getting olympic isn't as easy as you think it is. Then again, I guess if I kept playing D- players perhaps I could eventually get olympic too, so there's also that to think about.

Yea... no doubt all A-teamers could tear it up and get olympic.

So if we looked at this problem logically: you have a friend who types "his." And he wrote "his" instead of "he's," we can infer that he is your friend.

Just saying.

It really is. If Oz feels like it has to throw matches, at least make it entertaining. Spear is funny, but he only goes so far outside of PvT. Bring back BackHo.

I laughed in real when Jaehoon lost his shutle to 2 random goliaths right after he had lost 15 probes and nexus to 4 vultures.

Also, I think neither Bisu, nor Stork, Flash, Jaedong would be able to storm exactly in the middle of those two lurkers and not harm any of them if they tried. And I'm not even mentioning the scourge lol.

Jaehoon I suspect is really good at the theoretical aspect of BW but has poor concentration in televised matches. If you read his interviews, they always make a lot of sense.

I don't think anyone doubts this. He's the mastermind of a lot of stuff used by guys like Stork and apparently a good practice partner to have.

Of course when it comes to live games, no one is really close to playing as badly as him sadly.

He only gets mentioned in other interviews so much because he is friends with so many other progamers and they are just being nice.

MrHoon: Hey Sea, I was wondering how often progamers PRACTICE with other teams? Because in alot of interviews S-Class players always thank players like Jaehoon and etc. If you guys do practice often, how long/how many matches do you practice with them?

Sea[Shield]: A common misconception is that when we say we got help from other teams is that people believe we do this for like 10 hours. This is wrong. When we say in interviews "Thank you progamer X for practicing with me" we say that because we really don't have anything else to say and it makes the other player happy; common courtesy I guess. When another teammate even practices 1 game with us we are very happy and thankful, but most of our games are inhouse. We may play around with other gamers but practicing with opposite teams do not happen much as...
A) There are many many teammates to practice with so chances are you will always have a practice partner
B) If there is no-one to practice with, we will practice with online practice partners people first rather than other teams. It isn't good in the future if you practice with other teams if you catch my drift.
C) Training schedules are different for everyteam. Also during practice sessions we are usually not allowed to even get on Battle.Net or 3rd party servers.

Stork Hyung and I are very very close, but even then we really can't play together that often unless it's vacation or a holiday or like my team you didn't advance to Playoffs (laugh).

We shall see. He seems to be doing somewhat better after Coach Ha left. Last season was just tragic on so many levels. So many tears after being played as the ace player again and again.

Jaehoon's performances will always be full of lolz but as long as he gets at least a 40-50% win rate, I'm happy enough.

The arbiter was over unpassible terrain (the wall) so none of the ground units could be placed. The terrain dosen't matter for air units so they are all called in.

Oh wow, hadn't seen this thread. The games he plays are always funny somehow, haha. I love this guy. I remember especially that game he was so disappointed when he lost, he stayed in the booth for minutes after he lost. The other MBC guys had to enter the booth and console him :D.

The FBH game was worse, but it doesn't really get good until around the 20 minute mark. I didn't notice any really funny, terrible mistakes in the Canata game until the 12 minute mark as well.

This one is from Jaehoon vs Lomo. He recalls one dragoon and twenty zealots to an expo with a lifted cc.

He hasn't really failed as badly as the stuff shown in the OP or in Jaehoon vs Canata though. Maybe he's getting better?

Hmm... I think it's very easy to make fun of Jaehoon cos he makes such elementary mistakes during televised matches. And because he never won many matches in the past, he never got to explain his side of the story in interviews.

But recently I've been paying more attention to what he says in interviews and it seems he really does have some really horrible nerves during live matches. He mentioned that his hands, which are warm before the match become cold once the match starts. And that he's still finding methods to cope with this.

Then there was that rumor that Coach Ha was pushed out because players complained that he was too tough on them. I remember Shark's appearance on Hyungjun's radio show where he mentioned that Coach Ha threw their keyboards/mouse in rage after they lost matches. So it's my theory that one reason the players complained was that Jaehoon kept being played in ace matches towards the end of last season after which he would break down horribly into a pool of sweat/tears. Anyway, I don't want to blame Coach Ha too much cos he did so much for MBC in the past.

But my point really is that I think Jaehoon will keep getting better this season cos he's more relaxed/under less stress than before.

<matjlav> Finally a sensible post.

In spite of all the criticism, Jaehoon has quietly won 6 of his last 10, and beaten some great players throughout the year: Kal, Hiya (before he started sucking), and the two PvP masters Horang2 and Shuttle. Yes, in between was an 8-loss streak, but look at who he had to face (at least 5 tough opponents including Flash) and I'd say I can overlook that.

A thread like this makes a lot less sense when reality is examined. How about some more open-mindedness?

the most hilarious thing about his fails is that his immense talent is frequently shining through. isnt jaehoon the guy who stork, bisu, jaedong and many others consult for strategic advise?

afaik if jaehoon could play as well on stage as he does during practice, he could be a multiple starleague winner...

Jaehoon isn't that bad of a player, it's just that when he fails he does so in a hilarious fashion. Other players of his skill level, or even below his level, aren't as funny. It's not Jaehoon's skill level that's funny - it's the way he chokes. Not THAT he chokes.

I presume you're joking, but just to be sure, even if a player has 20% odds of winning, you can still make money off of getting him to lose on purpose. Bets are scaled based on odds, so the expectation of the bet, in equilibrium conditions and assuming correct odds, will be equal for either choice, otherwise EVERYBODY picks one side of the bet and no stakes emerge.

So basically, with the given assumptions, your odds of winning actually cancel out of the equation for how much money can be made by throwing a match.

I know this explanation was probably unnecessary, but w/e.

Mistimed recall. He didn't do it intentionally. Too nervous so fingers don't respond well.

Him winning and doing comical fails is the best of both worlds. That means he gets to play more and show us more hilarious fails while still managing to pull a victory out.

That's why Jaehoon vs Lomo is a classic. Jaehoon made at least 3 comical, hilarious fails but still managed to win the game while providing us awesome comedy material.

Jaehoon hwaiting!

n.Die_soO (SKT1 Zerg) is 6-2 so it's a crazy season so far. Nobody fails quite like Jaehoon, though. And he's pulling victories even while failing!

Jaehoon was the first player I saw literally facepalm during a televised match, was last year's Proleague or something, forgot which game it was...

But recently his play looks a lot better, that last game vs forGG he looked pretty good against that timing attack. And wow! 6-3 is pretty good, lots of players doing worse than him at the moment... /looks over at Oz A-team. and JangBi

Jaehoon will lead my FPL team to victory (while leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake for all those who put him on anti).

Actually, he's become much more solid than before, when he was simply a bundle of nerves in the booth. Time for the practice bonjwa to finally perform on stage.

Now only if Light shapes up...

Enjoy it, you won't see that ever again.

Unless the coach is on coke or something.

On a side not everybody loves JH. So many progamer say in interview that he is super nice.

Last week's ABC talk on DES described a progamer who dramatically improved in both proleague and indiv league performances. From the bits I can understand, supposedly player A was treated harshly by the coach leading to a tense situation in the practice room? Sounds like Jaehoon I think.

Could anyone please help translate?

That was before he hit critical mass, the one with the mine drag, then the one HT trapped because of the choke-point pylon. Only consolation was the good storm before the mine drag when he needed to trim hp off Fanta's post-Stasised Golis.

What are you talking about? Jaehoon was pissed that he wasn't playing against Flash or Bisu, players who would actually be near his his S+ level. So he decided to give Fantasy a few shuttles filled with units to lessen his overall advantage over Fantasy. He also decided to just move his army around while Fantasy pushed, to give Fantasy extra time to attack.

You see, it's just not easy being a Bonjwa of Jaehoon's caliber. He must constantly give away units in order to make games entertaining. That's why it seemed that Jaehoon played badly. He's just giving his opponent just enough rope to hang themselves with.

Unfortunately for him, he screwed up and gave away too much stuff to Stork, who he forgot was also semi-decent. Otherwise, that was easily an all-kill.

Rather, he thought Stork was too sexy, so he secretly decided to lose. Due to stork's sexiness this won't constitute match fixing.

he obviously did it to free up his supply after epic storm, because well, what are HTs without energy good for? Having 4 arbiters to support your carriers is way better.

the same goes for "why did he let the tank live"? Well he had too many probes and no time to kill them, as he was busy with micro intense battle on the other side of the map. That move was actually genious, because probes were slowly dying while still mining crucial and well counted amount of mineral and the tank could've been one shoted when the amount of probes was optimal.

Dailyesports wrote a whole article on Jaehoon (including something about Free Agency o.O), can anyone help translate?

http://esports.dailygame.co.kr/news/read.php?id=38965

Edit:
Now I can guess the reason why he had a fight with Sea.

Waaay too long article for the likes of me, but I skimmed over it and immediately locked eyes when I saw "Lim Yo Hwan" in the article.

Interesting trivia: Jaehoon, like most other players out there, wanted to be a pro gamer because of Boxer. He first started playing Starcraft in middle school and started out playing as Terran, but you know what made him convert to Protoss?

That's right. Mantoss.

When he saw the Mantoss defeat Boxer in the 2002 Starleague, his whole world changed right there.

Just thought I'd let everyone know this fun piece of info. Of course, since the article didn't have any more mention of Boxer in it after the beginning, I immediately stopped reading.

Why did he fight with Sea though? o.o

Most of the comments are cheering Jaehoon on since he's been playing so well recently, but the comments revealed the reason why Jaehoon got in a fight with Sea... There are some really disappointed but sad fans out there.

Now I see why you are so sad Ryo. I didn't expect this from Jaehoon.

Well Free Agency means contract dispute with MBC, which is what I gather from the article (correct me if I'm wrong Spica). Jaehoon might very well retire? Sigh.
+ Show Spoiler +

This is not the first time Sea had a disagreement with one of his teammates over this. July/Bisu leaving was quite disappointing for Sea. And in mid 2009, there was a rumor that he had a quarrel with Hyun (at one time, they never stood together in photos, always Light between them). Of course later in 2009, Hyun had that FA thing. But ultimately he resigned with MBC so all was well again.

I just read the above article, and its really just a story about Jaehoon and how he got to be where he is now. I didn't read anything about sea in it. Some points to note from the article:

Jaehoon is really good during practice but becomes very nervous during games, which is partly why he doesn't achieve great results.

Jaehoon considered retiring last year but with coach lineup change, the coaches persuaded him to stay at least one more year and give it a shot, which he did.

The story is kind of depressing, Jaehoon seems like a really solid player and he practices a shit ton but hasn't been able to reach his goals or become a really good player yet. I hope he can do everything he wants to.

I also read the article more in depth instead of glossing over it, and white_horse is right. I read a netizen's comment "Ah I didn't know that Jaehoon thought of retiring, that's so depressing ㅠㅠ" and thought that Jaehoon was literally going to retire, but like white_horse said, Jaehoon was thinking about retiring after losing games left and right a while ago, but with persuasion from the new coaches along with Jaehoon playing really well recently, it looks like Jaehoon isn't going to retire anytime soon. The Korean netizens are proud of Jaehoon's decision and are cheering him on, and hope that he'll display even better games in the future.

So it seems that Sea didn't get in a fight with Jaehoon because of possible retirement reasons, but probably over some small matter or something. I feel really sorry for MBC though, since they've seen way too many great players leave their team, so I bet the new coaches were fighting really hard for Jaehoon to stay and try one more shot. MBC never wants to go through that pain again.

Wow, after reading the last page, I feel really bad for thinking Jaehoon was horrible and putting him on anti (though he's kicking my arse for it atm). If he's made that kind of decision to keep playing, I'll be sure to support him from now on.

Keep fighting (and sweating) Jaehoon~

Edit: Took him out of anti :<

Thank you for clearing that up!

I hope he continues to be a progamer even after this year. I'm glad DES chose to do a profile on Jaehoon because not many pple knew just how bad his nerves were. It was really sad last year when Light had to go into the booth after his games to console him.

I don't remember exactly where I heard this but I remember someone on tl asked Sea about this why everyone in interviews always thanks Jaehoon for practice and asked if he was really that good in practice and Sea mentioned that they usually just mention their practice partners to make them feel better.

It was MrHoon.

Stork Hyung and I are very very close, but even then we really can't play together that often unless it's vacation or a holiday or like my team you didn't advance to Playoffs (laugh).

one arbiter: 100 minerals, 350 gas.
one observer: 25 minerals, 75 gas.
one army: something like 3k minerals and 1k gas.
recalling ONE OBSERVER into the terran main: priceless.
for everything you can't buy, there's Jaehoon's recall fail.

Wow, looks like Jaehoon fail never gets old.

I think Jaehoon would make a pretty good coach or something similar in the RTS field. I don't think any progamer has had as much success as him while looking like a total wreck in the booth.

You cant recall units near or on cliff that was not meant for units to occupy. (except air units like the observer)

This is why I hate this thread. People who have never watched any recent MBC matches or don't know the background of the player and his team, see this thread and immediately think Jaehoon is some kind of joke who only plays like that.

And no, he doesn't stream. No active BW progamer streams. And even if he did, you'd probably be disappointed because Jaehoon only ever made these kinds of mistakes in live television broadcasts (due to anxiety attacks) and in the last several months, he hardly makes them at all.

Yes, his last proleague season was really good compared to what he used to show, and his recent performances correspond to the departure of coach Ha and Lee from MBC back in September 2010. I really think they put may too much pressure on him when they were around.

He's really not the same now. But honestly i'm not against some epic lulz time to time :D

Jaehoon is a strong player and was my favourite MBC player. He had a super good year last year and is ready to make waves big time. He grew in stature and in importance to his team and often delivered when it counted. I agree he doesn't deserve to be thought of as a retard, he deserves to be though of as the up and coming protosss powerhouse that he is.

Regardless, these fail incidents he's had are fucking hilarious and I hope there are many more to come. They add to his already considerable likeableness (is that a word?).

Also, if I remember correctly, Jaehoon was getting so much thanks from other progamers for practice time because he's actually good off-camera.

A Stork fan compiled a few examples of interviews from 2007-2008 in which Stork, Savior and Jangbi thanked Jaehoon for recommending/helping them with builds:

I think you need to relax. There's a way to say what you said without sounding so aggressive. And I know you're a mbc fan so you take offence and feel the need to defend him but the thread was just made on a light note. You have to admit it is funny.

Definitely. Even during his good year last season, some of his losses were still due to hilarious fails like these. It's what makes him likable. And the fact that he's winning consistently means we get more chances to see more Jaehoon fails.
