The difference between Jaedong's and Bisu's arrogance is that Jaedong actually ends up being right. :>

Insurance, heh.

Yes
Savior know very well these talk of "Actions speak louder than words".

Anyway i didnt said anything that is not true. Im happy he won as he has the merit, hes my 3rd favorite player.
I just made a note on the interview, thats all. Besides that, he deserved his golden mouse.

Its just funny that many fans of JD bashed bisu for arrogance, and now that JD acts this way, hes right because hes good. I dont aprove any player arrogance.

It's b/c JD looks less arrogant. Bisu's appearance has doomed him.

I could say, JD is cute, while bisu is pimp.
I would put a bisu w/ crow pic here, but i not crazy to this point.
I have love for my acc.
Lets just cheer for JD, its more safe.

I'm definitely not saying Jaedong is definitively Bonjwa, but it just strikes me as odd that he's disqualified for doing poorly in proleague (or the grand finals atleast, otherwise he was a beast), whereas that never mattered to other Bonjwas. Savior wasn't that good in proleague, either.

I agree but I think it's because different eras call for different "qualifiers" to be called a bonjwa. Savior was literally uncontested in his era, he reinvented ZvT singlehandedly, and he dominated, and dominated for a long stretch of time in one of the most unbalanced map pools of all time. Because the difference in skill level is razor thin nowadays, because the skill level is unbelievably high nowadays and because players like Bisu, flash and fantasy exist, JD has more to prove than the other bonjwas.

That's just how I feel though. Someone needs to compile a list of how the other bonjwas did in the OSL/MSL/proleague and see how they compare to one another. I almost forgot about GOM.... So JD carried his team to the grand finals, won the OSL, got to the semi-finals of the MSL AND got to the quarter-finals of GOM, pretty much all at the same time. That's pretty amazing... I wonder how well he'd do if he were on a good team :D.

We don't say who is a bonjwa

We only say one is really a bonjwa when the Korean community calls him one

Yes, this is very true. I followed up on some blogs and sites like Naver and it seems to me that approximately half of the community is calling him bonjwa. The problem is that the other half is arguing against it. Some people argue that Jaedong's done everything to qualify as a bonjwa in terms of success, Starleague runs, numerous longest win streaks, and his ridiculous win-loss ratio. He's ranked #3 in terms of OSL and MSL badges (since Korean netizens all agree that 3 OSL + 1 MSL > 3 MSL + 1 OSL). However, the other half disagrees because they're saying that he doesn't have the force like Ma Jae Yoon (aka sAviOr) had. Another reason is that Jaedong still has rivals like Bisu or Flash even though he surpassed them in terms of success. One things certain though, they all do agree that Jaedong is the most skilled player in this age/era right now. So I guess we just have to wait and see how things will turn out in the end. I consider Jaedong bonjwa but only cause I'm a big fan of his. I'm not stating that it's a fact so don't flame me. (puts on anti-flame suit on) ^_^

Honestly I don't think we have to subordinate ourselves from the Korean community that far. Of course, the fact that we're using their jargon does mean that our fan culture is derivative to a degree, but the many differences in the subtleties of perception in various events show that the foreign community has it's own consciousness to a degree. Even Bonjwa, I've seen people absorb the word through whatever limited information they can get, and now it's taken a life of it's own in the English speaking community.

If everyone in Korea started calling someone Bonjwa, I'm sure we would follow, but I'm just saying we are at least fractionally, a part of a larger community, and constant affirmation from a mother community isn't necessary.

This is mainly the reason why I don't completely agree on Jaedong being bonjwa right now.

and I do somewhat agree to a certain extent with Waxangel, but how teamliquid defines bonjwa just isn't accurate and certain enough (e.g look at all those bonjwa threads)

Yeah, I think that if there's any significant doubt, then he isn't a bonjwa.
But yeah, all the bonjwa threads are really annoying.

And they say Bisu was arrogant.
What i really like in JD is his kindness and humility. Seems like a golden mouse can change some things.
Didnt like this part of interview. The rest is very fine, he deserved the title for so much hard work.

I don't think Bisu or Jaedong are arrogant. It's called being talented and confident. Having confidence that you can win is an important step in actually winning.

Agreed to an extent...but really only the other progamers make it true.

Savior was a "bonjwa" because all his peers regarded him as such. Until that happens again there is no bonjwa Boxer/Nada/Oov/Savior were bonjwas because there was no doubt in the minds of their peers that they were the best.

Jaedong and Bisu are both very cocky, but it comes off as arrogant from Bisu and just 'confident' from Jaedong.

Like some people have said before, it's all about their image. Bisu just LOOKS like an arrogant prettyboy who thumbs his nose at people, while Jaedong looks like a chill dude. It's an unfair judgement, but what can you do. I like both players a lot for being lighthouses in the dark for their respective races when the other players are doing bad (Jaedong for Zerg a year or so ago, Bisu for Protoss now), though. And Flash for being pretty much the only Terran holding down the fort in the Protoss dragons era. All of them are race heroes who said 'screw the odds' when people said their race was underpowered.

- After the prize ceremony, what did Coach Cho whisper to you on stage?
▲ He told me, "you are my best player now, and you will forever be."

This is kind of sweet, but also kind of creepy. Maybe it just doesn't translate well. Also it's kind of a backhand to the other Oz players to basically say that no matter how hard they try, they'll never be as good as Jaedong. It's probably true, though.

WTF? Is he saying that he made JD all that he is today? Come on man.

Jaedong WAS at Oz his entire progaming career. Where else should the credit go?

Personally I would credit Jaedong, but that's just me
