Every MLG I make one of these and always end up getting super duper ultra busy and forgetting to update. This first post will just be a short and sweet thank you to MLG and give you guys some insight on what I'll be doing at Anaheim all weekend.
So, if you don't know who I am, I'm AskJoshy on YouTube, I cover live events for compLexity Gaming and cast The V for them each week. Since MLG Columbus, I also joined up with the eSports team at IGN and help produce the IGN Pro League, IPL TV, and all of their other intiatives. I'm very, very happy to be involved with all of these organizations and wouldn't trade it for anything.
In Anaheim, I'll be rocking the coL shirt (or new jersey?) and interviewing everyone I can get my camera pointed at. Complexity is going to be represented by CatZ, drewbie, Ryze, FireZerg, CrunCher, rsvp, Stalife, Tri_Master and their Academy winner EtsurLizzuma! Of course I have to mention that coL's new partnership with MVP means that DongRaeGu will be sporting a coL.MVP jersey as well to represent both teams! They also have a badass Halo team named Triggers Down that will competing as well. Added all up, that's a lot of players to keep up with, so I'll do my best to do just that, despite press not being allowed inside the player area for this event. =\
I always bring the following camera / production equipment along to help me out:
- Canon Vixia HF10 (Not great for pictures in the super-dark MLG environment, but amazing for stand-up interviews in good lighting)
- Beachtek DXA-2S for a dual microphone setup
- Two microphones with 25-foot cords, just in case I need the length
- Flip cam and charger (This thing is amazing for live events because of its very quick camera-to-internet turnaround and 720p footage. It's a shame they stopped making them!)
- Old Gateway laptop from 2007 to actually upload footage from
- Canon Powershot A560 just for classic digital camera shots outside the actual venue
- Various cords and chargers
- My iPhone, perfect for spamming the Hell out of Twitter all day and knowing where everyone is at all times
- Cheapo $5 mouse pads from Office Depot, perfect for grabbing pro-gamer signatures, as well as Sharpies!
So all that stuff is packed and ready to go, my flight from Oakland leaves at 5 and I land at 6:20. Tonight I'll be heading over to the Relay Race as soon as possible. I would hate to miss any of it regardless, but Complexity is running in it this time so I kind of have to be there anyway. =P It's also a great time to interview some players and get their thoughts going into MLG weekend.
I want to thank MLG now for putting on such an awesome tournament over and over again, and for allowing me to come be a gigantic nerd for a few days at a time in the presence of other gigantic nerds. Attending these events and becoming a part of the live StarCraft 2 experience has been life-altering, literally, and you have been a big part of that. Thanks for reading folks, I'll update this OP later tonight if I'm not too exhausted or drunk. Thursdays can be notorious for party nights, especially if you don't have to play the next day like me.

I've got to ask, are you not afraid your gear will get stolen?
That's a lot you are taking with you.

hey you owe me a meeting ^^
see you there tomorrow!

Well this will be the eighth live event I've attended, and the only thing I've managed to lose is my Collector's Edition Jim Raynor dog tag USB thing, and that was my own fault. I keep ny gear on me or in the hotel room at all times anyway, it all fits in my backpack aside from the tripod, which I forgot to list. :o
I'm at the Oakland airport now, waiting to board! I will head either straight to the Hilton or straight to the relay race when I get in!
Edit: Juliette I'll gladly meet you and anyone else who says hello! I dunno what any of you look like though, so you have to come to me.

So day 1 is in the books. My flight was delayed from 5 to 6:10 departure, landed at around 7:40 and had to quickly decide if I wanted to head straight to the hotel to drop off my gear and clothes, or say screw it and take it all with me to the relay race! I saw a guy with an MLG Astro bag headed to the cab line and asked if he wanted to split a cab ride to the Hilton. He said sure and off we went. The guy ended up being Jeremy, the person in charge of audio for the Halo stream, and we had a nice chat about MLGs past and the rise of StarCraft 2.
Once we got to the hotel it was like 8:05 and I decided to grab a room key and head up to the 9th floor. I was out the door at 8:20 not knowing where exactly I was headed, but the site of the relay was literally just out the front door of the hotel and off to the right. I didn't miss it, yay!
I said hi to all the compLexity folks that were present and caught up a bit with some players and coaches from other teams as well. Sheth was wearing a Liquid shirt so I congratulated him on the new team! QXC was around as well so I congratulated him on all his Korean domination. I talked with all of EG and Liquid, and finally formally introduced myself to Sundance, which was pretty cool.
The relay had a late start due to some Liquid guys having to return from a net cafe. Once everyone arrived, Slasher was on hand to start smack talking, despite not actually running himself. The relay went sort of expected and was unfortunately really dark and Raelcun and DeMuslim took a nasty spill. DeMuslim getting an arm injury after his surgeries is really unfortunate. After the race I ran back to the hotel room to upload the video ( http://www.YouTube.com/complexityinsider ) and caught up with the coL guys at IHOP where they were finishing up. Edward Chang and I headed to a get-together with some sixjax and WellPlayed guys, and we all ended up down at the Hilton bar. More catching up and reveling in being together again occurred, with lots of community and MLG folks mingling. It was a good time and I learned some interesting stuff and met some new, fun people!
So far for day 2 all I've done is eat some pizza for lunch (hi Husky!) and lay around, waiting for our brand new coL jerseys to arrive before heading down to the venue!

I can recommend the standard steelseries qck black mousemat for a cheap alternative for signatures! Keep up the good work josh!
