I'm pretty sure its old, and yes it's probably from practising too hard. I vaguely recall and interview where he spoke with pride about his scars. This is just the first time I've seen a high quality picture of it.

In my opinion the cut was probably formed through dry skin irritated by excessive practice. Yes it appears to be on his mouse hand, but the mouse is hardly still in BW. I hope it doesn't effect his upcoming finals. However he has talked of playing with cuts before (I'll try find the interview).
