I have gone through all my classes and now that all the introductions are done, the real work is going to start piling up.

One cool thing I like about college classes is that they have a syllabus of the homework. Well why is that cool? Coz it lets me do homework in advance of classes. I am about 3 weeks ahead in my biology class and only a week in psych.

This basically lets me have notes on what hes talking about already so I have most of the notes down already. I want to try to get a couple more weeks ahead with my psych class because it seems fairly straight forward right now.

Why do I do this? Well first and foremost I think being ahead alleviates the stress of having to do your homework the day of and having to sit down and read because you are forced to for class the next day. Instead I motivate myself to see how far ahead I can get.
It also frees up my time so I can better manage what I want to do for the day and if I want to do homework or just chill out and enjoy life for a bit.

That's a great practice if you can keep it up. What it really is is letting the professor reinforce what you are teaching yourself though. It's just really hard to keep up, especially in the long run. At least for me, I don't have that kind of discipline.

Nice job keeping ahead. Do more of that and college will be a breeze.

Im taking a class and the professor was out on the first day. Syllabus was distributed (by someone else) and hw is still due tomorrow. The textbook doesn't help you with how to do most of the problems. Wtf lol
Yea sometimes it is hard.

This was the reason high school was annoying (and elementary school rocked). Essentially every class and teacher frowned upon trying to get ahead, resulting in slowing my pace to that of the class, leaving me bored and uninterested in the material and me giving half-assed results.

You can still "get ahead" if you wanted..

It's not like anyone's stopping you from reading the next 5 chapters. You can do that in college too. And you won't get any tangible benefit except that you'll understand the concept better when the professor covers it.

I would advise not getting ahead on your homework like that. If you truly want to succeed in classes, then do what your professors tell you to do and put in 2-4 hours outside of class per lecture. Doing 3 weeks of biology homework just so you can fuck around in the class is probably the worst thing you can do now that I think about it. It doesn't really matter for you since it's intro level biology that you could probably ace in your sleep (and psych for that matter), but for future reference it's not the best idea.

Most of my classes did not follow a logical progression, and things were hand-picked as lessons and focus throughout the semester. In my attempts to ask what was coming up next (for instance, with math or English classes), I was denied the information. Other classes either didn't have textbooks, or were new/had freedom enough so the teacher kind of made up stuff as they went (philosophy, comm-tech).

Oh, must be different. I went to a large state school and no one cared. How big is your school? Do you go to like Amherst or something where it's tiny and everyone's smart?

EDIT: Are you planning on joining or starting a CSL team?

UMass Amherst? A lot of my high school friends went there. Why do you say everyone's smart? Not saying they aren't. Just that I don't see how they're different.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

My little brother is going to dorm at Amherst for his first year. I'm so worried @_@. I heard its all party and no study down there lol.

On college being hard... I'd say it's difficult to get an A in an actual relevant course, whereas getting a B would just require you to be disciplined and to know everything in the book. Some courses I've have had had professors that would encourage us to go far beyond the standard requirements for an assignments. And of course that would be the only way to score the A.

Ahh. I'm like "Umass Amherst isn't small. What is this?"
