Notes:

I went to Volks Korea with cgivisionary yesterday and somehow walked out with a limited edition (the last one actually) Mai from King of Fighters Dollfie Dream. Her default outfit, whilst suitably boobtacular and glorious would probably have given some old ladies a heart attack. So I re-dressed her more demurely for a photoshoot at my location of choice (it's close to my house...) Children's Grand Park.

The reaction from passing people was actually really positive. They called her beautiful, took their own photos, and a little girl even ran over to ask me how much she was (aka. too expensive for you sweetie.)

I've rusty at photographing dollfies, and the wind was insane today, but I had fun. I need to get my laptop fixed so I can use photoshop again though. I'm also working on posing, and becoming more adventurous as I practice shooting inanimate objects, but trying to lend them character. It's tougher than shooting real people :S

I've always wanted a doll. I know it's kind of a weird thing for a grown man to say but oh well :D I just think it would be a lot of fun posing them and collecting/making random clothes for them to wear.

A couple of questions for a prospective doll owner.

- Is posing Dollfies just like posing a figma only that they are 10 times the size?
- Are the fingers on the hands posable too or is it a solid cast?
- How do you take care of them? I noticed the Tokyo dolls come with powder to keep them in good condition. I think this is because they are silicon based though.
- Is it important to pick clothes to match the type of the body or will pretty much anything work as long as the scale is right?

Cute~~

I know little about figure/doll collection, but have an insidious and self-destructive capability of getting obsessed with/interested in anything, and this looks super interesting >///<

Not at all. I know a lot of male collectors. Especially, Dollfie Dream owners seem to be male as well as female.

1) Yes, pretty much. However, the innards are a little different. In a standard SD (Super dollfie) or MSD (Mini Super Dollfie) such as the ones from Luts, Volks etc. The limbs are held together using fabric covered elastic. So you get a lot of flexiblilty, but removing hand parts involves being more careful than just popping them out. Dollfie Dream hands and feet seem to pop right out. Changing wigs is just a case of slipping them on and off, and for changing eyes dollfie ones are held in by putty and accessed by removing the headcap, but Dollfie Dream ones are hotglued in and accessed in the same way.

2) The fingers aren't posable on DD or dollfies. You can buy different option hands though. My luts miyu has a victory sign hand on now. They're not expensive.

3) You can usually remove smudges or dirt using a soft cloth or tissue and water. Clothing can mostly be hand washed, wigs require brushing and trimming, and eyes can be polished. As for larger repairs - you can buy option limbs/heads/eyelashes/inner parts like elastic and hooks to replace damaged ones. Make up can be re-done by dollfie shops upon request (and when you pay them!) They're also highly customisable (dollfies more so than DD I think.) but only if you know what you're doing or it'll look like crap!

4) This depends entirely upon what model you buy. Although as a general guide it's a good idea to stick to putting SD clothing on an SD and DD clothing on a DD. It depends entirely upon the body type. My girl needs special consideration due to her massive rack. You can get measurements for wigs, shoes etc online - there are many resources at places like Den of angels forum and on official company sites to help you choose the right sized items.

I'll try to find a good place to do a photoshoot of her in her Mai costume soon! It's a gorgeous outfit, but I don't want to take her outside in it, since it's very easy to get her dirty.

Oh and a happy little note from me - this photoshoot just got spotlighted in the side bar over at Figure.fm :D I'm so pleased.

I hope it wasn't you who dragged the blog rating down *side-eyes* No, it cost me about $850 because she's a limited and I needed to buy clothing, shoes and a wig. Other women would probably spend that on clothing for themselves rather than a doll lol.

Don't worry about blog ratings :> I decided to rate it anyway, though, since it apparently means something :D

That is definitely very expensive though :o

Yeah, someone always rates mine down for whatever reason so screw it. It was a really expensive day >.< I've still got enough to get food and use the subway with, but I have to wait until the 30th now to get paid again.

I didn't know that about the eyes. I thought you had to pretty much replace the whole head. They seem a lot more customisable than I first thought.

I did wonder if her massive boobs would make some clothes just not fit - good to know lol.

I think I will buy a doll of some sort in the next couple of months. I'm not sure which type I'll go for yet - something to research in my spare time. I'll be sure to bug you again with more questions when they come up.

@Vek - No problem ^_^ There's a lot of choice out there, but I can help you since I've got pretty good knowledge when it comes to companies like Luts, Dollmore, Lati etc. I'm less experienced with Volks, and DD collecting, but it's not tricky once you've decided what you like.
