I am looking for a video/mp3 player that I can use to watch subbed anime shows. And, I'm having a hard time finding a suitable player, which is why I need your guys help. I'm sure someone here has found the player I am looking for (if one exists).
Of course, the player's software has to be capable of playing subbed videos in the first place, but, also, the screen needs to have enough resolution to display readable subtitles.
Size is important (the whole point of buying this is so I don't have to drag my laptop everywhere), but for this reason, I am having a hard time finding a suitable player
The zune 80/120 seem to match, but I want to buy used/refurbished to save money (i.e. probably no returns). Can anyone verify that the zune is suitable for watching subbed animes? Or can you guys recommend anything else? I want to avoid portable dvd players and small laptops, if at all possible

Thanks for the link. The cowon A3 looks like a better match than the zunes, but most of the people in that thread still complained about compatibility problems, as well as issues with subtitles.
Is there no better solution? I don't mind re-encoding all of my .mkv files to work on a cowon, but I would prefer not to if there is a player with drag and drop compatibility

By watching subbed anime, you just mean a video file with built in subtitles and not a separate subtitle file, right?
Archos has the best screens for movies and I believe iRiver has some good big screen players too.
The Zune is great for watching movies, but I wouldn't recommend it for subs, unless they've got a really good font.

try getting a netbook; it's smaller and cheaper than a laptop and I think it would suit this purpose quite well.

As far as I know there are 0 portable media players (none in general other than computers..) with a built in subtitle renderer for the ASS format (IE, for soft-subbed MKV, MP4, and other format files). You're going to have to re-encode mkvs no matter what to hardsub.
