Sometimes I really love living in the west. There are animals everywhere, and sometimes you get animal/human mortal combat. My old man is an orthopedic surgeon and has treated his share of animal attack victims. His favorite was one with two guys hiking. A bear came out of nowhere and bit one of them. The other guy sprayed it with bear spray. The bear let go of the first guy and grabbed the guy who sprayed him (so much for bear spray). The first guy pulled out his gun and shot the bear. I'm usually armed when I'm out in the woods.
But last week had an awesome double feature. A camper defeated a mountain lion with his chainsaw a mile or two from our cabin. The guy the next drainage north who shot a grizzly with his revolver after losing half his face barely even warrants a mention after that.
Scans from my local paper (click to enlarge):
(had to stitch this image together, paper was too big for my scanner)
Anyway, I'm headed to Alaska for a week and a half (flight leaving in two hours so much for sleep), where I might see even more bears

"The lion definitely was extremely ill"

That story was not nearly as entertaining as it should have been I was hoping to read about some mountain lion being hacked into pieces Not some cheesy ass blood-free scratch Oh well, it was still an interesting read.

the guy said in some other publication that he thought the saw would dig in more when he hit it, but it felt like hitting something (someone?) with a hockey stick. But yeah, stuff like this would make a better scene in 24 (which is to say I wish that mountain lion had attacked Kim instead of staring at her so we could watch her whine) than a newspaper article.
