I guess I'm going to be stopping stream for a while.
I love to share when I can. That's why I've been doing translations and streaming games constantly. But there are times when I can't find sources to stream, hence resulting in other less-preferable streams like the Chinese-commentary hanguo stream, or times when my sources lag and I can't stream a high-quality, stable stream.
And what do I get in return?
Flaming.
Swearing at me and my family.
Telling me to fuck off.

I've been trying to just ignore this for the sake of the many others who really enjoy my stream, but I just don't think I can take this any more. I could have just sat back and watched Proleague on my own, but I didn't. Because I grew attached to teamliquid.

Reading this, most of you will probably go "Lol fuck you I'll just watch another stream then".
Konadora i think i speak for like 99% of tl when i say that your streams are very appreciated and we are very grateful that you do stream please dont stop
KONAAAAAAAA <33 I need to watch your stream more I stayed up to 6 AM to watch elven lied with you you can't stop streaming now, let me mod I'll crack the whip on those haters

It's the response this blog deserves. An obvious reply from me to a pointless post by Konadora. If you don't like streaming, then fine, stop streaming. If you don't want people to flame you, then make a blog about it and ask. Fine, that's totally legitimate.
But don't make this blog. Don't announce to the world that you're not streaming anymore. It's pointless and makes it look like you're fishing for support.
Just turn off chat. I personally left konadora stream when there was extra things showing on stream (showing who is playing etc aka covering upper screen and my attention is too much there because of contrast).
No matter what you decide to do you should know that the vast majority of us really appreciate your hard work on streaming and translations. Don't let a couple of idiots get you down. Thank you very very very much for you hard work and please cheer up!

I doubt that's why he made this, chances are he made it to alert everybody so I don't go idle in his stream for 3 hours wondering hmmm where is e-stars?
As for him turning off chat, maybe he wants to actually have a talk with people about the game he doesn't deserve to be flamed for simply wanting to chat and then when he turns off chat and at the end of game turns it back on there is 90% of the time somebody still flaming him.
As for you telling him to stop streaming are you kidding? This is without a doubt my favorite of the streams and I'd hate to see it shut down because of a bunch of no good trolls.

I like your stream, its really quite helpful to the community (read: those of us too lazy to find streams ). I just dont see why you should let anything people say on the internet effect you at all, if you enjoy helping people through your streams then do it.
Also not to be mean but it just seems kind of like you're looking for attention here. I know i sound like an asshole but =x
1. I really appreciate your streams, and I think a lot of people on TL do as well.
2. I really feel that chat should be disabled. I actually only watch it through TL because I really can't stand all the fucking retards in the chat-room. I am almost certain no one will complain if you turn off chatting (how could they? Doing so on TL will most likely result in a huge whiplash).
hence resulting in other less-preferable streams like the Chinese-commentary hanguo stream, or times when my sources lag and I can't stream a high-quality, stable stream.
I like the Chinese caster, he tries to speak English and gets just as excited as the Korean announcers, NICEURRR
konadora, don't stop because of them. Dont listen all this flame. Just ignore, and keep streaming. A lot of people appreciat what you are doing for them. Hop your mind will change and you will broadcast again.

If you have an open chatroom without moderation and with anonymity, you'll always have trolling and flaming. Always, no matter the content. I never said that he deserved to be flamed, I'm just saying that as long as Konadora (or anyone) runs a popular stream there will be people cursing out his family etc.
My point is that this blog is totally pointless, that's all.
And konadora, if you are getting totally pissed at me you can ban me from your blog if you like. I don't mind and you'd probably be justified.
Anyway there is a simple solution to this problem. Run your stream without chat and come onto TL IRC. That way you can maintain your bond to TL and let others do the moderating for you.
Also, if you only post the stream link in IRC, the number of users will stay low and you'll have a small group of about 50 that you can enjoy the game with.
EDIT: I dunno if you can change the web address of the stream but if you did that maybe you could get a fresh start.

This is a good recommendation but I'll still help you moderate it if you still want to stream while you play SC and anime because I never watch anime anywhere else :O.
with 300+ people in your stream, it's impossible to control without constantly banning people. You should just disable chat. Also isn't there a function where you can allow certain people to talk, maybe you should use that with the few people you trust that won't act like idiots. Bad luck to anyone else who wants to chat, that will probably save you a lot of frustration.
Personally the chat room is the only reason I don't go to your stream (and because it lags like crazy when people spam useless stuff), it only takes one person to say a certain progamer is retarded or something and all hell breaks loose. Ban chat and rule with an iron fist.
Unfortunately now with this stream gone I have a feeling Mystlord's stream will be flooded...

Guys, understand that everyone has their own way of doing things and Kona does it as he sees fit. YOU might not like it, BUT i certainly do.
There is no excuse for saying "Oh, I don't like it, so I try to help by offering advice". FUCK YOUR ADVICE. Criticism is not advice.
If you are one of those people who go to a party only to get at the free food, you are a jerk and a moron. Do you know how much effort goes into providing you guys with entertainment? Do you think you can do it and take the heat? NO.
So GTFO and stay the fuck away from people who actually DO things for you and get nothing in return. Because you are a hypocrite and will always be one.

I really think it should just be irc chat, that way you can let the TL mods mod the chat and you dont have to worry about it. You know you can just enjoy the chat with the regulars and let the fuckfaces just watch.

Its contrast. White up and black starcraft screen makes me look both at same time.
If I don't know who is playing I do
A) Check races they are playing and then compare to tl.net thread
B) check players teams (usually shown next to players name) and figure out who is who
C) If its proleague game, obviously from game score.
D) not being lazy and doing your own research
E) from TL.net thread where usually some one types players starting positions
F) sometimes observers ally left side booth if its mirror game (around 75% time) so I can figure out who is playing mirror races)
If these won't help I just enjoy watching without knowing who is playing.
aw you shouldn't stop streamin you do a good job. The people complaining are just teens filled with raging hormones. Don't take it to heart, nobody kicks a dead dog.

Yes but there are a lot of people who have just recently started watching SC and don't think to do that so having that tiny blurb at the top is nice.
I totally understand you, if you decide to stop streaming, I get easily annoyed by stupid people as well, but believe me, you have the support of the hole community for what you are doing - streaming, translations etc. Dont stop, really
I like your streams and comments during games but man, you have to be realistic about this issue... There's no way in hell that a stream with 500 users won't have assholes, spammers and other trash. I don't know why are you giving them points by acknowledging their influence on you, stopping streaming and then writing a blog about it. I'm 100% sure that majority of people, including me, appreciate your streams and the time and effort you put in, so why not look at the bright side instead of focusing on few fucktards.
There were retards on the mogulus chats pretty much from day one (way before you started streaming), there's nothing you can do about it. Plus with a lot of people in the chat it tends to hog a lot of resources, so the best way is really to deactivate the chat and chat elsewhere (TL IRC, like others pointed out). Personally I don't like the Chinese streams either, but I keep it to myself (not to mention having a Chinese stream is always better than having no stream at all) and don't pollute the chat or any threads with it. Ungrateful fucks are common on the internet (and life in general), it's just the way it is
The saddest part is that it only takes one or two idiots to spoil a stream that has an average of 100+ viewers.
I'm not defending them, but sometimes when let's say your stream gets dc'ed and everyone goes like "F*** You Kona..", don't take it personally. It's just that many people are really into the game and their reaction is well, very spontaneous. It's the same with many other sports. A split second goal can make even the most well-mannered and decent man into a swearing machine.
I have used your stream many times and well, if that's your decision then, I'll respect your decision. Thanks for the good views. Much appreciated.
You must be feeling so hurt to have made this blog
Don't quit - you've been doing so well, I might not check the stream often due to my crappy internet here in India but I always like the fact that no matter what you're streaming or doing translations from your own free time. Maybe you need to take a break from this and probably only do select stuff but don't underestimate your contributions to the community.
what some people are trying to say, albiet ungainly, is that the nature of sharing things on the internet will require some thick skin.
while nochat + TL irc is the logical solution,
on a higher level, doing anything on the internet will never be always peaches and cream, and you should expect anything. It's unfortunate that your streaming service, which brought a lot of joy and a sense of community to many people, will be stopped because you let bad comments and bad incidents get to you.
words are just words, and if this great thing that you're doing goes down because you couldn't get over the fact that some anonymous douche who doesn't even know you is calling you a few words, that would be very sad.
All the things you started for this site never were done with feedback as the goal, whether positive or negative. I've been in your shoes, and I know; you don't do it for the props. You do it to share. So why let the negative comments get to you?
On July 12 2009 19:55 motbob wrote: OK, stop streaming. If you can't handle it and you're not willing to turn off chat, stop.
Yeah lol cause if I turn off chat people still go "FUCK YOU WHY OFF CHAT?!?!?!?!??"
And if I don't, people go "FUCK YOU WHY DON'T OFF CHAT ??!?!?!?!!?"
whatever man
How can people complain about not having a chat in an f'ing video stream?? Just turn it off I'd say, there's tl's board, irc, msn and related, even... People (read: trolls) will get used to it.
Sorry that you feel troubled about this.
(oh, and don't you love the irony that people are now saying WTF! NO MORE STEAMING!!! F YOU KONA!)
Do whatever the fuck you want to do, Kona-fucking-dora!!
Who gives a fuck...you're doing a service to the community streaming games and all that shit.
But...I don't really watch SC live anymore, so it doesn't affect me a whole lot. I've used your stream like once. The regular dudes'll probably have a lot more to say about this in the OTHER direction...ahahaha.
I enjoyed using your stream to watch live, and appreciate your contribution. Whether you decide to quit streaming or not, thank you for doing this for all of us. (I always had problems watching live until your stream came along)
Despite being banned from your channel, I still watched it, and really appreciate the effort that you put into it. Also, the chat on livestream is painful anyways so it really isn't much of a loss. Thank you konadora!
Others can still post onto the threads in TL as per normal if they stream into OGN's VLC or Daum Sports, blah blah.. They will jsut type what they want on the thread instead in your stream..
But i think others should be grateful of what kona did though, and if those who think his stream is laggy, prove to the rest and stream it to others..
Kona fighting - I know how you feel, really I do. It can be tough at times, but the majority of people here are mature enough *not* to make comments like that - it is, as some people have said a minority of teens/morons/trolls who don't have the skills or dedication to do even half of what you have for tl.
Konadora I've been enjoying your streams (and those of others thanks to you too guys!) on a near daily basis.
Websites, chats and everything on the internet are always filled with morons. Sometimes we forget about them being out there because we ban them in a heartbeat on TL. Because it's not possible to properly moderate a livestream I think it would be better to continue without chat in the future if you decide to come back to streaming. There's the live threads on TL if people have something useful to say, and if they don't have something useful to say we don't need to hear it anyway.

Guys I'm not stopping forever, just taking a break from all for a while.
But after taking a bath, cooling my head and thinking through, I realised I'm not any more mature than the people who've been flaming me and shit. What I wrote in the OP was in sudden impulse, and I'm still not clear-headed enough.

Kid just turn off the chat which should be done in the first place because it is an inefficient piece of shit. Tell everyone to go to #tl on irc and then we'll just fuck everyone up.
I'm one of those guys who always try to do what I truly believe is right, but when I go on the internet even I have had bouts of fucktardness. I haven't yet told anyone to fuck off when they're providing a great service free of charge though, but I recognize that I might have a really bad day one day and go for it when I see my favorite stream is offline.
Point is, don't let it get to you, internet fucktards are generally good people having a bad day. I mean yeah that's really easily said, not letting people get to you I mean, and if you learn how to do it then tell me how and all that... But alcohol helps.

I guess from everyone's advice that the best way is probably going to be just closing chat during games.
I'll heed that and follow that from the next time I continue streaming.
Im a nobody and no one gives a fuck what I think so Im not going to say much on the subject but Im not suprised considering how bad the chats on the streams can get at times and sooner or later featured streamers like you Konadora are gonna get fed up.
Anyway I really enjoyed watching OSL on your livestream and do hope you continue streaming after your break(?), most people will still watch your stream even if you turn the chat off. (flamers, spammers, trolls might get the message and gtfo)

Tx for all the times I could watch your stream. Like many people said here before, just turn off the chat. There is literally nothing useful being said on the chat for about 90% of the time. If people want to discuss the game, well then they better join irc. At first, when the streams were brand new, I admittedly liked the chat function. After a little while I noticed the amount of fucking retards in the chat became astounding, really. Being used to a tightly moderated website like this, I was left flabbergasted by how many mongoloids crawled out of the woodwork to open their gullet and spam uninteresting and annoying crap. It made me appreciate people shutting their yapper and the moderating here all the more.
Koonaaa~ Thanks very much for everything you've done thus far :O People on the internet are dipshits It will always be impossible to please everyone, so just worry about pleasing the people you like ! :D GL GL Don't let pricks stop you from doing anything you enjoy :o
just turn off the fucking chat bro, seriously. most people type in IRC anyways the people that usually type in livestream chat are lurkers or the flaming first time posters in LR threads
You could also give various trusted folks access to mod the chat. I'm not sure how that works though, so it may be too much of a pain. TL IRC would be best, since we don't have to deal with 99% of the users being anonymous.
KONADORA, stay man, I like your streams, not only cuz of PL, i watched your games too, i enjoy your playing, let them flame, there are also people that enjoy your stream XD
I have the feeling I might have been perceived as a troll on Konadora's stream but I never did flame anyone or at least had the attention to. If I have been part of such and contributing to the hate and misappreciation of your efforts, then I'm sorry. I greatly appreciated your streams and I hope you will find the courage to go ahead and continue your streams.
I went under the name of 'Wat' in your stream. Terribly sorry.

Drama much?...Internet is full of such retards, you just gotta "live"with them, or better - ignore. What on earth stops you from that?Do you seriously care so much about few retarded kids flaming you?Seriously, even blocking the chat would be better option than stopping stream for good - just think about all these normal people counting on you and appreciating your effort everytime you bring stream to them. I say, continue stream and grow up (internet wise)
Why does everyone take this shit so seriously? Why do you care what some random thousands of kilometres away says? Turn the chat off and don't be such a baby when someone says something bad. I honestly don't know why ANYONE EVER cares what people say when you don't even know them. Are you that sensitive that you need to be accepted by every single person you ever come into contact with?
^While yes, it's naive to not expect trolling/flaming, I don't think his reaction is that hard to understand. It's not a matter of feeling the need to be "accepted by every single person" he meets; he just felt it was disrespectful when he was offering a service to the community.
Anyway, he's said he's going to disable chat now so all is good.
Kona I really appreciate what you've done for the community. You add a ton, out of volunteer time and effort, and often go under-appreciated. So thanks.
Jk Jk I used your stream like 2 times (I have luck with streams so always watch the direct ones or daum) but the times that I use streams of you/mystlord/etc... even the ret one... Trolls are always on the streams with chat... its just people without life. Its the better choice, maybe now you can watch the matches and enjoy more =P
When I am available to watch games myself, I'll try to stream, but if there's an absurd amount of flaming/trolling/spamming I'll end up disabling chat and using IRC as well.

You really expected to please everyone? You're likely to experience something similar in every aspect of life so it's probably a good idea to deal with it somehow - explain to people what you find wrong with what they are doing and if there is no talking sense into them ignore them.
Many other popular streams turn off chat, people just expect everything when you give it to them - they'll forget about it if you just run the stream without it, because if they really wanted to talk during the game they can spam IRC.
LMAO, this is like a situation back in freshman year.
Some black kid in my PE class would keep messing around with my friend and me in the locker room. My other friend would defend himself, causing more trouble. All I had to do was ignore him and he wouldn't bother me.
As 'faseman' said, I find it really stupid to even give a second thought to flamers on the internet. It just blows my mind why you would care what they say. It's like a random person passing you on the street saying "you're a huge douchebag". Would you be offended and QQ in a thread on TL? Of course not, because who gives a shit? If they really had something to offend you with, I'd somewhat sympathize with you but really? This thread reeks of "give me attention please". No matter how much you might think that you didn't make it for that, I'm sure you can't deny that a tiny bit of you did want it for that.
Kona, I'm a couple days late, but please don't stop your stream
most of us love it and fully understand how hard it is to get a good stream going. We're grateful to anyone willing to put the effort into doing that for us
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your chat when the games were over and there were only 26 of us watching and talking about anime. I'm going to miss that. Once all the retards leave when the games end, the chat is actually really cool. It's a shame that you have so many retards on it though :/

???
I've been trying to just ignore this for the sake of the many others who really enjoy my stream, but I just don't think I can take this any more. I could have just sat back and watched Proleague on my own, but I didn't. Because I grew attached to teamliquid.
But that was then. Now, teamliquid has all these lurkers that think they're fine flaming off under the anonymity of the Internet and get away with it. People have grown to be unappreciative asses. GG.net invading my stream doesn't help either.
Reading this, most of you will probably go "Lol fuck you I'll just watch another stream then".
Whatever.
Konadora, there will always be people who will insult you. That is not just a fact of the internet, but life itself. By giving up your contribution to the StarCraft community, you are essentially letting them get to you and win.
Let the flaming and trolling flow past you and concentrate on the people that matter, the majority that appretiates what you do. This is not to say you should ignore constructive criticism, but you should not let mindless hate affect you. Chances are that they contribute less to the community then you do. Take refuge in that fact and never give up.
Regardless on your ultimate decision, I thank you for all that you have done so far. Your translations in particular have been worth a great deal for those of us who have no knowledge of Korean.
Well I'm sure everyone said this but you're not obligated to anyone really, it's not like you're staff here (or are you, but I don't think you are). An SC community I feel like is built upon people who are willing to do stuff like you do during their free time anyways. Plus this is internet, your real life is more important anyways =P I really liked the random Code Geass sessions we had lol. Do what you gotta do man.
Btw have you heard of Gary Gold Smith? They sound like a fun group...
