So the other night I'm chilling at my parents' place when I smell something weird. Like something burning. My mom tells me it's the candles my sister burns, but it's sort of foul. I check to see if my laptop is burning. Finally they smell it too. It's bad. Something is on fire. My dad finally yells "skunk!" First thing he tells me is to get the .22s, then to look up how to get the smell off the dogs. Never saw the skunk, so the guns went unused.
It's summer, we had all the windows open D: I've smelled that skunk smell before, from dead ones on the side of the road. That sour/bitter smell. But it does nothing to prepare you for a live one. The burning tire smell, you can't imagine. My mom's up in my sister's room dry heaving.
My dad and I head out to clean up the dogs as best as possible. They've both thrown up. We wiped off the oil that hadn't soaked in yet, then treated them with a mix of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and baking soda before turning the hose on them. It gets rid of a lot of it, but it's still there. They say if it's untreated, you can smell it on a dog up to two years later.
Every day it seems the smell in the house dissipates, but if I come back after being out for a while it is still there D: It's four days later and I can still smell it on my hands.
So thanks dogs, for following your instincts and making friends with that weird looking cat. Worst smell ever.

Actually I want a skunk as a pet (with it's smelly sac thing removed) I find them really cute as well. :3

yeah I don't like skunks. Back at my old HS we used to have to smell that shit everyday :/
