If they had only touched the game once before, like you said, then you should have been able to beat them both yourself. And I doubt that anyone could even get to D+ and think that a 5-hatch is a good strategy.

One of my most memorable 2v2 games. Me (random terran?) and a random ally protoss. Map - blood bath twilight. I've made standard 9pool and watch my ally. His build was:
7pylon
8pylon
9pylon
10pylon

I suppose he would continue with 11 pylon and 12 pylon but some zergs rushed and killed him..

I guy I used to work with tried to convince me he was better than I am at starcraft. He told me with zerg about 80% of the time he builds a creep colony with one of his first 4 drones.

Needless to say he dodged any attempt at actually playing.
