That was a cool play, but I wonder how often bluffing occurs in real poker (when I say real I don't mean online poker). My only experience with poker is through a facebook app (I got to 1 million dollars than lost all my money in 1 hand) so I know very little about what I'm talking about. But one of the things I did learn was that online, people hardly ever bluffed. I'm curious to know how often great poker players bluff offline and online as well.

people dont bluff so much online because they're playing with fake money and nobody gives a shit about fake money so people will call anything

that's because you can't bluff stations

Elky 3bet pre as a bluff and once it was called, he had 2 options, c/f or cbet into shutting down. I have no idea what their history is, but if the other guy's calling range to be TT+, AJ+

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 51.432% 50.97% 00.46% 33304 301.50 { QdJd }
Hand 1: 48.568% 48.11% 00.46% 31433 301.50 { TT+, AJs+, KQs, AJo+, KQo }

given that, elky is winning 50% of the time at best, and if we take out AJ from his range, he's actually behind.

His bluff failed so he folded, simple as that. If he'd have bet, he'd have been comitted for the hand.

I would imagine elky picked up a tell that the guy was strong on the board. And if the guy is strong on the board, elky beats nothing.

Ok what the fuck happened? I don't know anything about poker lol.

Elky had a pair of queens, the other guy also had the pair of queens but had the higher card Ace as a kicker. Elky had the Jack as a kicker. So if they go to showdown where the people show the cards to each other and it is decided who wins the money, Elky would lose. Also what's interesting is the action when they knew only the hole cards - the QJ for Elky and the AQ for the Singapore guy. AQ is much much stronger hand than the QJ so the Singapore guy raises the pot. Now Elky is supposed to only call this bet with QJ cause it's a bad hand overall. But he raised it one more time which generally signalizes a lot of strength like a high pocket pair AA, KK, JJ, QQ or AK which also is very strong hand. So by raising Elky tried to force his opponent off the hand. But the other guy had a strong hand so he calls the raise to see the flop and evaluate. On the flop Elky had queens with the jack kicker. And he doesn't bet which usually can mean weakness or he can be trapping and waiting to substantially raise a bet. So when the other guy bet the money, Elky could have raised, called or folded. He chose to fold this hand. This decision is what's impressive because a top pair is usually a good hand. But he thought and I guess his train of thought was maybe something like: ok he raised preflop first in, I raised him more, he called. Now a queen and two bad cards come. And I check so he bets into me. He might be stealing the pot. Or he might really have a big hand. What hand could he have played like this? A bluff? Big pocket pair for sure. And also a higher queen than mine. Low pockets are out of the question, people don't usually play them like this preflop. I guess my hand is not worth the risk so I muck it.

If you watch closely too, the asian dude gives a few visual tells on his hand strength. He bets his chips out 2 at a time piles and adds them slowly. He swallows pretty hard when he pushes it in. both of these can signal that the player thinks his hand is good, but they is not confident 100% with their hand.
The follow up tell is what did it for Elky I think, He has his mouth slightly open (basically what you do when your mouth is watering for food) same concept. He saw the guy with his head cocked and his mouth open ready to re raise or bet. So elky wisely check/folded.

but again the situation is out of context so maybe elky was just bluffing preflop and got caught.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Elky sucks

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1843/asdasdasdawy.jpg

He's a losing player in everything he plays and ran hot in a few live tournaments.. not much else to say. Everything I've read about him from other regs is that he's basically a terrible player.

And unless the live donk in the hand is constantly folding to 3bets and is a huge nit.. this is a terrible fold and probably a terrible 3bet vs his cutoff opening range...

you're an idiot

firstly, those stats aren't that bad considering the stakes and how many tables elky plays. he makes MAD BANK just in pokerstars VPP. much more than he loses.

secondly, elky is respected as one of the best (like literally top 5) tournament players in the world.

he's also an extremely good HU player

in short, you probably shouldn't be talking when you don't know wtf you are talking about

60k hands is nothing. 100k is still considered a small sample size.

you can easily do 30k a month, some people do 10k+ a day...

Trust me, there are hundreds of players who are 10x worse than Elky and have won more in donkaments. I have nothing against the guy, I'm just being honest, he's a dog in all the games he plays and he's just not that good overall compared to the other players at the limits he plays.

I do have to give him credit, brute forcing his way to Supernova Elite was +ev in the long run so can't blame him for that. He probably knew he would end up being down a huge amount but would eventually make it back after he became the first SNE so you have to give him credit for putting it all on the line like that and dropping several hundred thousand in games he is an underdog in. He's probably a good 3/6 reg at best.

But overall, he's just not that great of a poker player, I guess saying he sucks was a bit over the top because the video was just lol to me.

elky makes a good play -> elky's good play doesn't jive with your stupid calculator brain -> elky made a bad play

cool man cool i agree that you should always do what is proper and expected and right because otherwise someone will post on teamliquid and say that you suck and even if you go broke "playing good" you can still come to teamliquid and see that no one has posted that you suck

OH WAIT NO ONE POSTS THAT YOU SUCK BECAUSE NOBODY CARES HOW YOU ARE DOIN

you are bad and elky is great

Lol that's funny because you're a far better player than he is and yet he's won more than you probably ever will again. Do you still play (not being sarcastic, just not sure)?

you are bad and elky is great

I agree, I am pretty bad, Elky is better than me by a lot, I'm still grinding 1/2NL but ppl calling him a top 5 mtt player and a great hu player is just lol and this hand is just lol to me (w/o context) and I'm just repeating what I've seen based on hands / discussion on 2+2

I don't see why just because he was a white SC player you people have to pledge loyalty him blindy.. OMG SICK HAND SIK YOUTUBE VIDEO SICK!!!!!!111111111111111111
