I'm pretty sure I picked up a virus. Not sure how or where but for about a week every time I turn on my computer I get the error "error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\meyufivi.dll"

also when I run AVG I get a warning about C:\WINDOWS\sysWOW64\sihosido.dll being a "Torjan Horse Vudno.GU". A warning shows up every time I use an application and AVG is saying it is origination from that application. I can't get rid of it and I cannot find those files. Also AVG and Ad-Aware aren't fixing it.

Any ideas?

I reformat every time I suspect I have a virus... I don't even bother to get anti-virus anymore.

If I were you I'd reformat, but that's also because I have everything backed up in another partition.

Bad advice. Reformatting is never 100% sure, especially if you only reformat the C drive (or whatever). Some viruses can sneak onto other partitions easily, not to mention things like boot sectors and such that don't get formatted.

If I were you I'd get Avira (www.avira.com), and scan with that. It has a great detection rate.
As for the meyufivi.dll error, go to Start->Run->type in msconfig -> enter -> and under the "Startup" tab, search for whatever is invoking that particular .dll, and un-tick it. It should fix that issue.

Formatting is so 10 years ago, when windows 98 and Me would break down every two weeks and you'd end up formatting rather than bothering to fix windows, but ever since XP came along, you can usually just fix 95% of Windows' problems. Viruses too.

Edit: Avira is free btw. Direct download link.

Reformatting is actually incredible. Refomatting because of a virus is like forced spring cleaning. If you're as paranoid as CubEdln is then you can backup your files onto DVDs. Reformatting is 100% sure.

What the fuck? In my experience the cleaning programs rarely works 100% and takes a lot more effort. I would clean the computer only to see spyware/adware/virus/trojan come back. Meh.. work great for me.

Lol, this is really bad advice. You have it the wrong way. It's antivirus that is not 100% sure. Reformatting always 100% sure if you do it right.
Oracle comes in, Scvs go down, never a miscommunication.

Yep. If you reformat your hard-drive if you had a virus it will be gone. Anti virus software is always going out of date because virus's are so dynamic and change often. reformatting is the way to go man.

Your screwed if your partition is infected then. With no anti-virus software to warn you, you are walking on thin ice...

You're a fool. We are suggesting he reformats his hard drive due to the fact that he has tried several anti-virus software with no luck.

There is no reason to reformat your hard drive if you have sufficient software to deal with a virus every time one comes up. In his case, he does not have said software.

Reformatting is NOT the way to go. Trust me, I've been there. It's only 100% safe if you know exactly what type of virus you have, and if all your stuff is backed up on a different system that's 100% clean.

Have you ever heard of these? And you don't even have to be facing one of those, there are several viruses that can spread to other partitions without you noticing it. I used to reformat every two weeks too (a long time ago, though), but then I started needing a lot of things in my windows too, so reinstalling a bucket of programs every month or so is not something you'll want to do. Trust me when I tell you that A LOT of things can be solved without formatting your HDD. It's way less problem-solving than you give it credit for. It's like changing your engine whenever a hose fissures.
