Today at lunch I had a near death experience, from my house to a friend's house there is a pretty big road in-between it's kinda like a highway but shorter and a bit slower. But anyways, I'm crossing it the fastest way there is to my friend's house and it's right by some rail-way tracks.
So I see a car coming followed by a little break then some more cars so I get ready to run across right after this car and as it passes I start to run but as I run I tripped and I was on my hands and knees looking at about 10 cars in 2 lanes coming towards me.
The cars were no more than 2 meters off so I rolled and just made it into the ditch as a car zooms past just missing my head.
What scares me the most though is nobody bothered to honk or take their foot off of the brake, nobody was paying enough attention to notice me, and I'm not a small guy. I'm 6 feet tall and these people just kept doing what they were doing. I was in awe at just how automated these people were.
And then later I found that as I was falling my jaw slammed shut and I cracked out a filling that was in one of my molars.
Bad day.

Wow that sucks. Although that really does teach a lesson about crossing the street in an unsafe manner without having to die in the process XD
At least it didn't happen on Saturday!

Yeah for sure.

Look on the bright side: at least you didn't get a ticket for jaywalking.
|
good thing you are ok yes most people are automated :/

Dude why are you playing frogger in real life is it really worth risking your life getting home 1 minute earlier.
|
Something similar happened to me a while ago. I didn't really tripped, but some moron was speeding and almost ran me over after nealy hitting another car.
I guess you should be a little carefull when crossing the street, bad fucking place and time to trip.

Thing is there pretty much is never a safer time, the cars just keep coming. This is a pretty major street.

If possible you should seriously consider taking the long way around if the traffic is pretty consistent...
|
I just use my trusty jetpack and fly right over those cars
a car nearly hit me once too, though it wasn't going too fast and was pretty small so it probably wouldn't have been that serious.

You might be surprised how much damage a car can do, even at speeds that wouldn't consider too fast. I've been unlucky enough to witness quite a few accidents and sometimes you just can't believe how much damage a "slow" (at least it looks slow) can do... Be safe!

Good thing you aren't dead, iccup needs good staff like yourself.

There is a reason they always tell you not to run across the road. Or maybe you didn't have that hammered into you during your childhood?
|
man i was so good at frogger
i could never find the version from my childhood though =[
|
They probably didn't react because most people don't try to cross highways on foot. Use a real crossing path, and you won't have this problem

My friend crossed a street 10m away from the crossing path and got hit. I heard he flew 3-4 meters, but he was at school all healthy and unscratched the next Monday
That's gonna teach you dude, thank whoever you pray to that you're alive

Thank god you played starfox64 and you knew what to do in the moment.
But yeah those things aren't worth risking, if you can't walk the distance safely then I would just wait.

anyhow cars weigh a ton... even if it was traveling at like 5mph, it would break through ur leg cus u don't have enough mass to counter at it...

EsX_Raptors portrait is the shit!
Regarding the near death experience, man I never knew that 1st world countries they didn't care that much for pedestrians
or they could have possibly calculated that they wouldn't hit you in the first place? (but 5 meters without slowing down is really bullshit that they knew that they wouldn't hit you)

I thought and NDE was when you 'see the light' when u die and get revived.

5miles is a fast walking speed, anyone who gets hit by something that slow deserves a broken leg, and besides it would be highly unlikely that it would break your leg (unless you had that glass-bones disease) i constantly see adds on T.V about wiping off 5 to save lives, and they calculated that even going 30k/h (note, kilometers not miles) that the only injury would be minor bruising with no serious injuries.

I was incredibly reckless when crossing roads when I was younger now that I think about it, it's a miracle I'm still alive.

You know that deer in the headlights thing where the deer just freeze up and get nailed by a car. That has happened to me before (minus the hit).
I was crossing late at night and a car just came outta no where and flipped its brights on, I just froze up for like 1 second (seemed forever) staring at the speeding car. Then like 1 second away from doom I realized that I must move and narrowly missed the speeder. Was a crazy feeling.

I really don't see how there's any arguing this. jaywalking is fucking retarded, and if he had gotten hit, the poor driver woulda been at fault, even if he didn't have enough time to stop for some idiot who jumped out in the road

For instance, a road with fairly low volume which has absolutely no pedestrian crossings built into it can be a reasonable place to jaywalk, provided you aren't dumb about it. You just have to wait until you are sure there are no cars coming (and you need good visibility to do this). I used to do that myself to get to work, and I never once had even a slight problem.
The situation in the OP was not like this, however. It was a busy road so he unfortunately needed to find a good way around (but this can be a real pain in the ass).

I'm pretty sure near-death experience refers to when you are already on the brink of death (mortally injured) or even already pronounced dead. This would be more of a close shave
|
I have to cross a street (with no crosswalk) every day and I always have to resist the urge of crossing earlier during more dangerous traffic. Try to allow for a time buffer in case you fall! It's not worth getting F-vector'd.
|
What street was this? It sounds kind of like Lagimodiere. I wouldn't cross that blvd anywhere except at the few traffic lights.
Edit: Assuming you live in Wpg. Thought I read somewhere else that you do.

Dude, I had a near death experience too. When I was like 6 I was in a parking lot with my friends and I wanted to play pokemon or whatever so I acted like I was this cat pokemon and I was running crazy for about 5 minutes and then I trip and my head was less than 1 inch from getting ran over. Now I'm quite.
