Gaming FPS Spikes

Hey there TL.

I'm having an issue with my pc and wondering if anyone can help me out.
Every 1 - 2 minutes or so in pretty much any game I play, my computer will have these really bad fps spikes (like, 5 frames per second) for about 5 - 10 seconds. It has never happened before until recently and will happen in about every game, even extremely old games such as Quakeworld D:

Here are my specs, keeping in mind I'm not that great with computers and this info is just from my system properties.
- WinXP
- AMD ATHLON 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.01GHz
- 2GB of RAM
- Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT
- I have a 'Usicase' brand PSU and I'm thinking that is the issue.

If anyone can give me any help at all that would be greatly apreciated, thanks.

Give your case a clean, blow out dust and check if the fans are working properly.
Spikes usually happen when a computer is overheated somewhat.

I had the same problem a while back and I also heard this advice as well. I tried it and it didn't help. I changed hardware before I ever found the solution so I can't help you there.

If it helps, I had a similar rig with a 7950GT, X2 3800+, and 2GB dual channel OCZ. However, I had a OCZ PSU and I know it wasn't causing the problem. Therefore, it might be something other than your PSU.

I've tried cleaning out my case and checking fans etc, hasn't seemed to help. I downloaded a program called SpeedFan to test the temperatures. Here's some results.

So I guess some of these are too hot, specifically the GPU? Is there anyway I can cool down my case? =S If anyone has any ideas, please share.
