long story short, my gf and i are sick of condoms. weve been using them as birth control for about 2 months now, and they are quite a hassle, especially if we want to do it in the shower or something, having to carry a supply all the time etc.
i asked the doctor today because i was concerned that the pill and the injections can cause health problems but he told me that it only really occurs if she has present problems like blood clots and heart conditions. otherwise its pretty safe
does anyone have experience with using non-condom birth control, including pill, injection, implants etc (anything you can think of save coitus interruptus.) Better or worse than using rubbers? How pricey are they? What (if any) sideaffects do you or your partner get? How long do they last before they need to be reapplied? (the doc said implants was every 3 years, injections once a month).
plz no flames, im going up again on the weekend with her to get a more in depth opinion and then find out which is the most suitable for her and for us
also keep in mind that we dont have STIs so 'preventing' them isnt an issue.

yeah, but its possible to get backpressure on the nuts and permanent pain =/
i cant think of much worse than constant testicle pain, can you? vasectomies are kinda harsh, i was thinking more of a temporary solution rather than surgery

yeah thats what im worried about :C ill ask the gp about it, i dont want it if theres a likely chance of serious health problems
also, does anyone have any experience with those cap things?
Well... Honestly I would not only rely on the pill for birth control... They are prescribed to her as far as i know. If i were you i would still use condoms for the first couple of months, the pill is more affective the longer used and if she can be a perfect pill user (take the pill around the same time of day every day) then your chances of becoming a father are just as likely that I will be come the next Wilt Chamberlin ( im 5'10") So....the longer taken the better off you are, and the pill will help with her monthly present if she is having problems already.

yeah i read up and it said i should keep using condoms for a couple of weeks at least because it takes a while for the injections to work and stuff. so ill be doing that for sure, but afterwards im hoping to rid myself of plastic on my cock at least for a little while
Idk..if i would put my trust in a girl taking the pill...its something they have to do everyday...and if they forgot a few times...well then ya. I have been with girls that used most forms...and to me...the patch just seemed the easiest if i remember its applied 1 time a week...accept the week of their period or something like that...i forget...and u know they are using it...cuz well u can see it lol....all have pros/cons...you should take ur gf to the doctor...and see what she feels most comfortable with. Also planned parenthood is free.

yeah this saturday we are going up to get another opinion and ask a few questions
the patch is the one thats applies for the first 3 weeks then stopped on the last week of the month? do you know the cost of those? dont worry she doesnt want kids yet either so she may forget but she wont stop taking them on purpose without telling me

there is (i think) a time before her period she is less fertile, but a time after her period she is most fertile.
hmm so its not to be relied upon then?
i know the pill and stuff isnt 100% safe but its close enough for me to not worry about anything happening afterwards
My ex and i had sex without a condom (was in the heat of the moment kind of thing) and even thou she was on the pill for over a year. I was still shitting my pants for a few weeks waiting to see if she got her period, she did and was so relieved. Even thou the pill is 97 - 99 % effective there is still always that 1% or 3% chance that your launched into parenthood. Also, the pill will make her period come on the same day usually or around a two day margin.
yes i belive thats how the patch works...and also...im not saying ur gf would do that just that there are girls out there...that do some really low things...and ive learned that from experience...for example a girl saying shes pregnant when shes not...and sticking with that story for a few weeks til being called on a lie...ugh not fun times...thats why i just stick with condoms lol...no more drama and worrying. and i have no clue about the cost...always just went to planned parenthood with the girl. make sure to ask lots of questions about each type..im sure u will.

well condoms arent always effective either (sometimes they break or leak or whatever). and if something like that does happen, theres always abortions, coz i dont think that 1% will occur very often
but ur right, its not 100% is effective but alot of things in life that relatively safe carry even a marginal risk
On April 07 2009 12:15 ghermination wrote: Well, if you dont want to use condoms, and other methods of birth control dont sound safe enough, how about abstinence? :V
Obama signed a law today repealing some bill Bush signed in '02 or '04 that drastically increased the price of birth control (pill). In the next few months, birth control pills should see a sharp decrease in price to match the government subsidization. If price isn't an issue anyway, meh- just use the pill.
weighing all the options...id say condoms are best...no side effects for ur gf...less worrying..cheaper...and if your using the right kind/size arent going to break or come off....unless your trying to fit your horsecock into regular sized ones lol...but i know your post was about wanting to use BC and not use condoms...so ya.
edit: Also how can we forget condoms...help prevent std's!!! how could we leave that out...i guess for people in super commited relationships...BC might be a good option....otherwise condoms get 2 thumbs up from me.
we dont have any sexually transmitted illness so its ok on that front. shes a nurse and takes proper precautions always and we can always get free blood tests or whatever
Me and my gf have been using the pill for about over a year now, no problems. If she takes it at the same time every day you really have nothing to worry about... I'm still childless after over a year of condomless fornicating. (And I'm a fucking horn dog. Seriously.)
And hey, some pills have the chance of making her breasts bigger too (dead serious) so its a win/win IMO.
I warn you though, condomless sex is like the Dark Side of the Force. There is no going back. If you guys try anything and she ends up deciding she wants to stick with the rubbers... You'll probably want to end your life.
Edit: To clarify, the pill is very cheap (a couple dollars every month? and the gf is paying for it, sweet deal) I personally notice zero side effects, and although you have to take it every day something like 4 of the pills are inactive (basically sugar pills just to keep you in the habit of taking it every day) so even if you miss one it often isn't a huge deal if your lucky enough to land on one of those inactive ones.

DUDE my fukin balls went upwards to hid!
jeez... the thought of it is just.. ugh
anyhow ur gf should realize that she is fukin around w/ her hormones by using birth control
the pills u take monthly r the type that fools ur body into thinking that u r pregnant and thus keep any more eggs from coming out...(these r the ones that make girls' breasts larger - necessary in successfully feeding babies)
but yeah birth control pills tend to really fuk around w/ the hormones i don't believe there is/was any proven study on if it has damaging affects but sooner or later all hormone changing shits always comes out to be at high risk for blah.. they just nvr make the connection fast enough...
by all means do it but make sure ur girl knows wat she is getting into
birth control pills also may have undesirable side effects some of which is depression and mood swings =/
My best friend and his girlfriend have just been using the pill and no other contraceptive for about a year now. The only precaution they take is that he doesn't finish inside her.
So far no baby, and even if there was, she's pro-choice. (Yeah, fuck my best friend. Got a hot, pro-choice, gamer girl. =\ )
my friend takes the shot, and has been fucking without a condom with her boyfriend for quite some time now, and she has no side effects afaik. She doesn't get any PMS symptoms, so she really advocates it.
I know of two (now) families that got owned by improper pill usage...
I know of another (now) family that got owned statistically by regular birth control. They're only like 98% effective or something, and they got fucked by the 2%.

I wouldn't go for the injections. Some of the side effects are massive mood swings, I had to experience that second hand. Also, my girlfriend was down in her back where they gave her the injection. She said it felt as if she had thrown out her back and this effected her even a month or so after the injection(Don't know if this was because of the way it was administered). Anyways, I'd stick the the pill. It takes more responsibility, but with slightly less side effects with no pre existing conditons.
With all of the trash about sex that people post on TL I'd have to say this is the last place you should be looking for BC advice. Go to whatever department of health website has the pregnancy rates on it.
Me and my gf are relying only on pills for 4 years now. So far I didn't notice any side effects myself. She never complained about anything either, the only things that she tells me that worries her a bit, is that the pill might cause health issues much later in her life if she use it non-stop for many years. I have already agreed to stop using it for a while, and go back to condom, from time to time if she feels like it's necessary for her health. But so far she's happy with how we're doing.
I also never finish inside her just to be safe, which helps a lot, I suppose.
Go for the pill, and how old are you? If your less then 25 you should NOT be thinking about a Vasectomy, I mean damn sometimes it just doesn't work or does enough damage that it cannot be reversed. The pill is so much easier then having minor surgery on your junk. And isn't that girls only have like a 3-5 day window a month when the egg is actually released? Its actually not that easy to get pregnant but it happens so often because its done so often, which is why no birth control is 100%. I know a guy who was using condoms and the pill and he got his wife pregnant.
It's weird how this is such a big issue for you, over here everyone basically uses the pill and it works like a charm. All your gf has to do is go see her gynaecologist and he'll prescribe the right kind of pill for her.

You make it seem as if the pill is worse than a condom in effectiveness although it is the other way around and the pill is in fact the safest method. Just check the Pearl-Index it show which are the safest methods: sterilization 0.1 - 0.4 pill 0.1 - 1 loop 0.1 - 2 temperature measurement 1 - 2 condom 3
Most girls I know use an oral contraceptive ("the pill") and unwanted pregnancies are non-existant.
The pill is extremely effective (usually quoted in the 99.x% range) but requires dedication and discipline on the side of the woman. For some guys, this is a bit of a mind-fuck because you are putting your fate(s) completely in her hands. It's worth it if it's someone you trust, but not so much if you're just horny teens having the "oh shit I don't have a condom" "don't worry, I'm on the pill (wink wink)" types of conversations.
As far as side effects go, the only things you ever see listed are a higher risk of heart problems and blood clots - but this has more to do with medical history than anything else. Other minor side-effects might be a touch of nausea, sensitivity, etc. Nothing major.
So for what you're looking for, the pill is a good option. You hear the odd horror story of people getting pregnant while on the pill but you can often trace that back to a lazy pill-taker. You *can't* skip a day on the pill and you have to wait a while (I believe about a month or so) after starting to take the drug before having condom-free sex.
Either way, it's prescribed by a doctor so any good doc should be able to monitor your lady-friend over the initial period to ensure she isn't experiencing any negative side-effects.
For some reason a lot of girls I know just refuse to use the pill. I don't get it- they're sexually active, having one night stands and stuff, and I'm sure that they're sometimes not using a condom, and yet they just refuse to use the pill??? It makes no sense.

thanks, yes i do trust her alot and she doesnt want any mishaps either so if she does forget it wont be on purpose
patch is good, but more than anything birth control is an individual thing condoms are too big of a hassle for any long term relationship i think, assuming you're both clean of sdts but just test yourself if you've had any relations that could have given you any ;p definitely dont do a 2 year thing or whatever right off the bat, try something else first, if you forget patch or pills then just use condoms for whatever required period, get your gf to talk to gynecologist / doctor about it
If it helps relieve any stress, apparently the 97% or 99% effectiveness of condoms/BC pills relate to your chances of getting pregnant after a year of regular sex (what's considered regular, I have no idea though).
So instead of a 1% chance of getting pregnant every time you have sex, it's more like a 1% chance of getting pregnant every year.
ive been told that the precum can affect pregnancy. whilst it does not contain any sperm (or at least doesnt contain very much) it may dislodge sperm on the sides of the urethra pipe when the precum is released (its always released when your having sex, its like the lubricant / wetness women get). ive also been told that even pissing doesnt always remove all the left over sperm from previous orgasms
i dont know if id feel comfortable mentally relying on coitus interruptus or pulling out, i dont know the details but i guess id rather have the pill or something as a backup incase the precum washes some semen out

This is what I always learned in school: precum can contain semen. coitus interruptus is definitely not that safe, if you're gonna use this method for a long period of time there's a chance your gf could get pregnant
