The ONLY exception is Death metal, which isnt music so i doubt anyone would bring it up in a music blog. Anyways it can be 50's music, rock, pop, rap, hiphop, rnb, whatever. Cheers

Current good songs i spam are:

Kings of Leon - Closer
Rob Thomas - Little Wonders
Coldplay - Talk/Swallowed in the Sea/Speed of Sound
Heart - You're the Voice
Kanye West - Amazing
Infinity 2008 Klaas Remix
Linkin Park - Pushing me away

That depends...there's as much bad death metal as there is good. Even then, most of it is only good within itself...there aren't very many standouts that can cross genre boundaries...meaning, if you're not a fan of death metal in the first place, you wouldn't like it.

Exceptions are the likes of Meshuggah (which you can only immediately call DM imo), and...well...that's about it...lol.

Death metal isn't an accessible genre of music, as it goes out of its way to not be all feel-good or relatable...which is the type of music the OP seems to tend towards.

You'll find just as much, if not more, technical music in any genre...and in fact a lot of death metal isn't particularly technical at all...just fast (the dumb bonehead bands).

If you want to develop a better appreciation for music mine as well look back at some of the influential ones...

Punk: Iggy Pop/The Stooges, good cd to listen to would be Fun House. Dead Kennedy's, Bad Brains, Buzzcocks if you want a deeper look in that genre. I'm not a huge punk fan so I know there are some that I should listen to but it's just not my style
Grunge: Pixies, start with the cd "Doolittle"
Indie: Neutral Milk Hotel, In the Aeroplane over the Sea is a beautiful album. Arcade Fire, Funeral is their only "great" album. Neon Bible i found to be pretty average Indie has grown too large to be really useful anymore as a name you can call it Lo-Fi if you rather
Fusion: Frank Zappa (start with Hot Rats), Return to Forever, Miles Davis (Listen to Bitches Brew now, I mean it)
New-Wave: Talking Heads (Too many great cds so uhh start with More songs about buildings and food), Devo
Pop: Beatles (Listen to Revolver and Rubber Soul DO IT NOW), David Bowie (also has 3 great relatively unknown new-wave cds that are amazing, Low as the best of the 3 IMO), Prince, too many but I like both of them alot lol
Ambient: Brian Eno, "Another Green World" is easily one of my most listened to albums, very well thought out and arranged cd.
Jazz: Too large of a genre but Charles Mingus (, John Coltrane, Miles Davis (again, Kind of Blue is a great cd), Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker are a few to list
Modern Classical Composers: I'm big into Philip Glass ("Glasswerks" is a great cd to start with), Edgar Varese if your into very percussion based dissonant music. Too many great classical composers to really go into detail I have barely put enough effort to appreciate even a portion of it.

Well good luck with your listening. You didn't really specify a certain genre or style your into so I just listed shit I like

EDIT: sorry didn't know you were looking for songs, well i fail

I'll be honest and say I found In the Aeroplane Over the Sea to be pretty bad at first listens, it really takes alot of listening to appreciate the intricacies of that album. Especially considering how rare it is for me to get into new(er) age music :/ Makes it kind of hard to find concerts I want to go to. My only good experiences of live music so far have been random excursions to jazz clubs, Ween, and Radiohead (not a HUGE fan of them but I don't mind their music, friends like them a little too much)

Not really going to look for specific bands/songs to suggest, so I'm just going to name bands. Obviously this is only stuff I like, I didn't like try to extrapolate from what you said or anything:

+ Show Spoiler +
-Warren Zevon
-Damien Rice
-Alizée (French pop)
-Jérémy Chatelain (French pop) He has a very ...um..."distinct" voice. Many people hate it.
-Natasha St. Pier (French pop)
-Tool
-A Perfect Circle
-Incubus
-Stone Temple Pilots
-Soundgarden
-Smokey Robinson
-Stevie Wonder
-The Animals
-The Who
-Pearl Jam
-Iron Maiden
-The Temptations
-Maroon 5
-Live
-Notorious B.I.G
-Sponge
-Neil Diamond

Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns and Money (BBC performance)

Warren Zevon - Gorilla, You're a Desperado

Damien Rice - Childish

That list just includes artists/groups I enjoy basically anything from, so no individual songs/album pointed out. Most of them are pretty widely known, but Warren Zevon and Damien Rice are each wildly under valued, in my opinion.

Bleh, I felt compelled to link some Zevon, so I added 2 Youtube vids to the spoiler. His stuff is sort of tough to find on there, though. Also embedded one of my favorite Damien Rice songs.

What is funnier?

- TL.net discussing good music.
- TL.net user saying Sonic Youth sucks.
- TL.net poster insists that Death Metal isn't good music, when there are Death Metal bands that have done more to music than any band in said poster's "music I enjoy" list.

and nearly all mainstream "music" is horrible, if you want to defend that, thats just laughable. have fun enjoying the sellout trash that caters to society is all i can say.

as for metal , ALL bad bands that are just some kids bashing their double bass and snare all day with the same one note breakdowns and the same power chord progression with absolutely zero creativty or originality with their vocals/bands are not considered metal
it joins the ranks of most rap groups as far as im concerned.
so please don't characterize "metal" with those pathetic bands, when they aren't even considered metal, at all.

Most good metal is actually related to classical music and a lot of bands actually take their riffs from orchestrated pieces

helllll death metal is so technical, theres even an entire sub-genre for it- technical death metal. and the fact that you can't find any good metal bands, is probably moreso because you've never bothered to try looking for any, rather than the genre at fault. it's fine to be ignorant about things but don't talk about it like you know anything

Dude different people have different taste, doesnt mean if you're a hardcore death metal listener means mainstream music is horrible right? Seriously wth

There are several different genres of music i listen to. However few, if any, are mainstream. I am not defending metal, rather i am defending good music. Mainstream sellout bands are not good music.
In fact, nearly every song played on the radio is bad.
it's really fucking strange how people pick the worst songs to be popular, just throw a bunch of nearly naked ladies in a video and zomg multi platinum
"society acceptable porn videos" are what i call mainstream videos.
i'm not saying all mainstream music is bad, just 90~99% of it

so basically, mainstream music is horrible because i'm assuming we're basing it on how good its musical quality is.
It's rather fun to dance/party to in clubs and most of the songs have clean vocals that are fun to sing along to, however , musically it pales in comparison to underground music.

i dunno, i sort of agree with OP. i listen to basically *everything* (literally, almost everything, i will enjoy, this includes most metal) but i can't stand the screaming and growling n shit of death metal. yeah it's probably hard to do but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable for me to listen to. i can't sing along, i can't hum it, i can't dance to it, i can't relate to the lyrics, i can't enjoy the tune (since if there is one, it's obscured by screeching and yelling and all that) what the hell is the point of the song to me? and it hurts my ears. i guess it is music, although i don't consider it as such.
(\o/)  If you want it, you find a way. Otherwise you find excuses. No exceptions.

I don't care how popular or how unknown a band is, as long as they are playing music from their heart and making original interesting music for me to listen to. It just so happens that most of new age music doesn't fit these categories. Look to the past people, it's where the good stuff is =)

Reading this thread made me think, maybe mainstream music isn't as horrible as i think it is, so i decided to give it a chance, (again).

Oooh, hey, fall out boy, i used to like this band back in the day
-listens to "I don't care"-
OH MY GOD THEY ARE FUCKING TRASH NOW
their old music was actually decent, actually had musical qualities and i always thought they had a clever way with words, had being the key word.

wut's with U2 , "l0l0l0l0l SEXY BOOTS SEXY BOOTS" what the fuck- garbage

O hey, metallica, hmm , better than their St.anger stuff at least, woot first mainstream band that's at least tolerable.

Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie was actually decent, "where the people are pleasantly strange" haha cute. he has a good voice too, and the music video was fun.

lolwut paramore, i think it's moreso popular because hayley's just hot rather then their music being good, sadly.
however, good music, saw them live at warped tour a while back, they're ok.

wtf Apoclyptica is popular ? O_o well ... they are pretty awesome , but im probably biased from being a cello player.

oh and rise against is fucking awesome as well

INCOMING SHIT FEST OF RAP
what garbage rap is.
kayne seemed ok, and i liked naz's lyrics

so, basically
-mainstream rap is trash - seriously
-mainstream hiphop is garbage, like i said before, it's just a bunch of "socially acceptable porn videos"
- mainstream alternative rock has a couple gems , aside from that it's just generic sellout garbage
- and there is no mainstream metal. lols
- and if you have a cute face with good vocals you go multi platinum
- the total sum of surface area of bare skin on hot ladies is proportional to the amount of revenue you make and inversely proportional to making good music
So i retract my previous statement about all mainstream music being bad
Instead I will go with, 99% of mainstream hiphop and rap is shit

I don't care how popular or how unknown a band is, as long as they are playing music from their heart and making original interesting music for me to listen to.

most bands get popular by seling out, but good point

personally, i don't care the genre, just the message the music is making
inspirational music? writing about loss? love?
when i turn on the radio all i hear is "o hey we're doing this to make money"
