Basically just stop taking yourself so seriously. Negative events like losing StarCraft only have as much power over you as you let them have. You're not always going to play your best game, and luck is not always going to favour you, so getting angry over making a mistake or having your build countered with nothing you could have done is a waste of time and energy. Focus on the next game (or next event in life, in general).

Eh, if you are playing vs random people you shouldn't get mad because you have no idea how long they have been playing. 99% of the time they are just more experienced than you.

What kind of anger are we talking about here though? Like serious anger? I can understand getting a bit annoyed with friends let's say who offrace and cheese like mad, that's all in good fun. But real anger though? It seems like you are taking the game too seriously.

Uh this doesn't apply at all to starcraft for me, but when I get mad yoga helps a lot.

When I beat you in chess did you punch a hole in your wall?

Some people have a tendency to get violent when they get angry. More evolved people do that very seldom...

I started playing on ICCUP this season, but just for fun and I'm proud to say I never really got angry even at the most horrible losses and mistakes, always gged and never flamed.
Just don't take it too seriously, it's a game after all and exists to be enjoyed.

go for a walk outside, and remember to treat every opponent as an equal (no matter how bad, or good they are)

if you lost a game because you made a few mistakes or cut corners, just realise that you would have won in a normal situation and that you simply werent playing at your best.

if you lost a game because you faced a stronger opponent and he rolled you, just realise that he IS a better player and better players usually beat weaker ones. theres no shame in losing to someone that is better than you.

i think you are putting too much value in this game. its just for fun, if you lose its not a big deal. theres always more games later on and time to improve your game, you need to start having fun playing this game and not being dependant on winning it

getting cheesed is the only thing that makes me remotely angry. if i'm really pissed off (for anything and not just starcraft), i just go take a nap. like the others are saying, just relax and take it easy. its just a game in the end and you should not base your life on winning and losing.

If you lost, it's not the case that you should have won.
So the problem is your arrogance.

Example scenario: This guy is going for a hydra break in PvZ. I CLEARLY scout and know whats happening. Theres no lair, 3 hatches, lots of units at my front door and theres going to be a bust. I try to cut the corners and don't place down enough cannons that I need and end up losing. That pisses me off because I KNEW what he was doing, I had suffecient time to prepare for it, yet I cut the corner too much and hit a bus

When you decided that you were going to cut cannons and risk losing despite knowing all that, you threw "I should have won this" out the window. You only should have won if you saw everything and reacted properly (ie throwing down cannons).

well I wanted to try to cut corners. You know how progamers do the very minimum to fend off vs attacks right? That's all I was trying to do :/

In that case it's definitely not a case where you 'should have won' lol.

In my opinion, a 'should have won' situation is one where you have a confidence level that it was your game at least as strong as: I've been in this exact situation before and dealt with it np on multiple occasions, and this guy is no better than those other opponents. It wasn't the same situation if you trying out crap like cutting in order to get better.

I should have won->I tried to take a more clear advantage and not overcannon myself->I lost and got pissed at myself for losing by not having enough cannons

One thing that might help is to consider Kwark's statement about iccup frustration:

On August 07 2008 14:17 Kwark wrote:
The way I see it ICC points are a currency for practice games. You pay points to practice vs better players and worse players pay their points to practice vs you. Tonight was expensive but this is why I got all the points. To buy series vs top level players. And I scored a few wins vs them so I'm proud of myself there.

When you look at it this way, a mistake which cost you points like the one you described here shouldn't bother you as much (I realize it isn't necessarily points that you are worrying about, but this mindset could allow for less of a mental blow when you lose due to mistakes)

Take a break and go for a walk or something, try to think about something else and your anger will subside.

Uh, find a kitten and punch that instead? At least the kitten will heal. Your monitor and keyboard wont.

On a more serious note, why not try and find something you enjoy doing that helps relieve stress? Do you lift weights? Jog? Masturbate? Any of those could probably help you relieve stress. If you have a bad game, just go for a short jog or lift a few weights to take your mind off it and relax. Or put a stress ball near your computer and squeeze it really hard when youre mad, like this rahhhh!
Basically, just take a break and do something else for a little while to help you calm down. Good luck. Post pictures if you break anything

I weight lift every day if possible. I never knew that was a stress relief thing. Also I just realized, I haven't watched porn in about 2 weeks....lol

Is there any way I can stop this feeling from coming again and again? I can get these "dark side" urges at least 5 times a day(can't mastruabate 5 times a day either)

Well I think you could masturbate five times a day if you wanted
I dont often lift weights, but when I do it helps relieve stress. Something about chemicals being created while exercising that helps relieve stress, I believe.

As far as trying to stop feeling that way as often, just do what you would do to block out bad thoughts of other types. I know when I start to think negatively I try to avoid doing so - think about something that makes you happy. Maybe if you want to keep it starcraft related, watch some old reps of yourself or other people that you loved. Or watch a VOD. Or read tlnet and all the hilarious stuff on here
